Rusticles are stalactite-like structures that are formed when iron-loving bacteria attack the steel in sunken ships. These 'rivers of rust' run down the sides of the ship (most famously in the case of the Titanic) and contain dozens of microbial species feeding off the iron.

@@kiryn5977 It doesn't make sense because you are not then using any logical order, meaning a month is longer than a day, but a year is longer than either of them. Saying April 15, 1912 means you are jumping about, in a sense. I know, of course, this does not have anything to do with logic or lack thereof, it's do with a convention. The real confusion sets in when you have any of the first 12 days of a month and you don't use the names of the months, then you end up with something like 1/4/1912 and 4/1/1912.

As for a lifeboat drill, things have changed a lot. When I did a Greek Isles tour, an announcement was made that those of us who joined the ship in Athens were to check for their life jacket ( mine was in the closet)& to find out what lifeboat we were assigned and show up at that station at such and such time. The crewmember acknowledged me when I got there and that was that.

  • @AaronDanieltenni

Canceling the lifeboat drill makes sense now. At first even I was confused by it all, but I slowly started to find out that there was a drill in Southampton. I'll look for it and post it in the comments if I find it along with time stamps. Beeps didn't come around until WW2. The old Marconi spark gaps basically just interrupted background static, and white noise. Edit: here it is! kzread.info/dash/bejne/kax_prSmmNOcnLQ.html 6:50 is where it starts. 22:52 cheez wheels are generally encased in a 1” thick layer of wax all around it to preserve it for long periods of time. Seeing as the university of google tells me that water doesn’t interact with wax and assuming there are no large air bubbles inside the cheese wheel itself. It is plausible that somewhere in the ships galley there is still a fully intact wheel of cheese still waiting to be served.

I write long, loooong comments supplying not just corrections but citations. The work Bright Side doesn’t bother to do. Hey! I’m a history student interested in the true story of the Titanic and have come across your videos several months ago during my research. I’ve heard you mention a handful of times that the White Star Line wasn’t responsible for the tag line “The Unsinkable Ship” and was curious as to why several testimonials from survivors still mention it in their accounts from the sinking. If you or any other commenters know the answer I’d greatly appreciate the feedback. Thanks again for putting in the time to keep us all informed!

OK, I endured the agony with you. Your reactions were hilarious, especially when you just threw your hands up and walked off-screen when they said Titanic sank at 1:45 😂. What I don't understand is how these people got so many easily verifiable details incorrect. Well, this is my first video so if you feel this was the best one---ew--I'm afraid to look at the rest! Be well, and thanks for sharing!

Hi there. I have a what if suggestion. Imagine you a time traveler with nothing but your clothes but somehow you managed to board Titanic. How to convince the crew that you know what will happen if they don’t believe you. What arguments to use? Nice work! 🤘🏼🤠💀

I would love you to do a video on the Chief engineer. I saw the “save the titanic” doc/movie and I got so fascinated with Mr. Joseph Bell. I would also love to hear where you think he was during the break up. Did he mange to get on deck or did he die inside the ship? Love your vids Sam!!!

Love how the video is called "what the survivors heard when the Titanic was sinking" when it starts out like it then basically goes into a totally different direction way off course from what the thumbnail says

Clickbait 101: make as good as brightly colored thumbnail as possible to be eye catching, then make the title something relatable to the subject. Then once the video starts, change gears and fly off thr rails with misinformation and outrageous claims of fact

There is oxygen down there that deep but not a lot of it.The Titanic wreckage has rusted significantly, but the term rusticles was the name given to the bacteria that are eating it

If bacteria are involved, they could break up H2O and use it's oxygen to oxygenate the iron from the ship's hull. No need for the water to contain lots of O2.

I read Futility. Calling it "the exact story of the Titanic " is a _streeeeetch._ The similar name of the ship and the fact that it hit an iceberg are the only similarities; the book isn't even about the sinking, it's just something that happened at the beginning of the story, and it's not even a good story. If a ship named Titanic hadn't been sunk by an iceberg soon after it was written, it would have fallen into the slag pit of bad art. Nobody would have any idea it ever existed.

I thought that cheese would get moldy if was sitting out for long periods of time but if cheese is kept sealed if won't get moldy until after the expiration date. If you do see mold in cheese throw it away. Some people will get sick if seeing moldy cheese.

I genuinely don't understand how bright side confidently spews their bs. If you are someone who knows even bare minimum about Titanic, one of the most commonly known things is that it was a dark night with no moon. That part got me.
