Happy Spring! I've been trying various kinds of commercial book cloth and I'm loving it. In this video, I use the half binding method for the covers by combining both book cloth and chiyogami. Even though there are a lot of pieces (AKA plenty of measuring and cutting), putting them together feels like I'm completing a puzzle. I look forward to making more half bound books!

I missed making these quiet bookbinding videos 🥲 I recently shifted my Patreon benefits so that I'm committed to making these at least once a month. Patrons at the Book Buddies tier receive a voiceover version of this video, where I talk through my process and decision-making. I'm excited to continue documenting my bookbinding process and growing my video skills! Thank you patrons for making this possible, and for your encouragement to make these videos again.

Hi I watched one of your previous videos where you attempted some simple case bindings and I made the following comments. Mmmm, I am pleased you enjoy your hobby. To take it seriously you could do with some more equipment - just the basics like a sewing frame, perhaps a laying press - just the basics you know. Also just one little tip when folding your cloth over the board always fold and paste the head and tail first this prevents the bulge from the 'tuck in' unbalancing the book and reduces wear on that part at the tail of the book when moved on and off a shelf. You could do with some tips when carrying out your final pressing - quite a lot of faults in your process. If you are interested please get in touch and I can offer some really simple tips to hugely improve your process. All the very best. I realise some of the points I have made might be a little uncomfortable to hear but I can certainly help your methods and hugely improve your standards if you are interested??

Perfect video for breath work exercises. These really are so artistic as film art.
This is probably what man feel watching the sports 😁
This was the first time I didn't speed up or skip forward. And I ALWAYS do.
Thank you so much. Your quiet gift is so inspiring. I receive with gratitude your gift. I learn how to quieten my mind and soul and find joy in a new bookmaking technique each time. So happy to see the half binding method. Kathy
Very inspiring, your filming skills are so good it’s always a pleasure to watch 👍
These books are works of art. I'm inspired to continue my journey into learning book binding. 📚📚📚❤❤❤
Beautifully done as usual! Love these quiet videos.
I've learned so much about book binding from your channel that I feel like I owe you tuition! Wonderful video as always. Thank you for sharing.
A beautiful morning, a beautiful video from her.
Hi, channel so happy to see you've posted a new video. I couldn't find where I could make another donation to your bookmaking book your putting together ( I can't wait to purchase it) but I did notice instead you're setting a goal for patronage so I joined your tea time tier hopefully that will get you closer to your book fund goal. When I can I will upgrade on your tiers. Thank you so much for sharing your awesome talents. ❤ ~Gina~
Ahh! These are awesome and i dozed off bit and missed some of it. It was just so calming 😅
I loved these book designs absolutely beautiful the blue and orange paper on the inside had beautiful color and texture just loved this video
Nice casing in technique, looks the opposite of the “standard” technique, but looks more precise! Ideal for anyone who’s using straight PVA as casing in adhesive. As always, thank you for your hard work :)
Your videos are so easy to watch in the morning as I'm not a morning person and can't bear a lot of noise. lol. And I just LOVE your choice of gorgeous Japanese papers. It's cool that you bring some of the oriental culture into the business.
SO beautiful. Thank you!
This was wonderful. Thank you.
Masterpiece ❤
So beautiful! ❤❤❤
I was going to take a nap to this but couldn’t take my eyes off to the last minute. Absolutely stunning. Bravo!!
Gorgeous books; amazing craftsmanship
I'm looking forward to a shop update. Such beautiful sketchbooks.
I love how well Lucy "supervises " you. 😅 As always your work is gorgeous.
Great technique with the support during glueing end papers to the covers!
Thank You!!!!!!!!❤❤❤❤
It was so satisfying to watch
Now I wanna make my own too... 😍😍😍😍😍😍 Gosh... Thanks for sharing this!
I love your work, it's so beautiful 😍
So beautiful and relaxing watching you.
Beautiful !!
These are both so beautiful and I'm totally in love with the blue one! I hope to snag one of your books someday
Thank you ❤for sharing
Love these videos! As someone who is comically bad at cutting and folding paper, your meticulousness is so mesmerizing
Wow you’ve really helped me along with my bindings! And for that I thank you 🙏🏻 and also the pearls of wisdom you share. I’ve really been struggling to motivate my self to make books but I have such low energy I’m finding it difficult to apply myself and commit to making books. You’ve taught me to do other things like plan and discover new methods of binding & techniques, and get out and walk more 😊 You’ve come so far in your journey, your really inspiring me. I’m getting there and you’ve become part of my journey with your blog & channel. Thank you Chanel 📒🙏🏻📚
been inspired to try bookbinding for myself by watching your videos! very pleased to see that while I had not seen this video prior to picking up my supplies, I got these exact rachet clamps from the hardware store, so I guess I made a good choice! hoping my first attempt comes out even half as lovely as yours do ☺
Belíssimo trabalho. Inspirador.
Vous travaillez magnifiquement bien ! Merci pour vos partages !
I love the contrast between the matte colour of. the spine and the colourful splash of the bookcloth covers, what a great idea! May I ask what type of paper you're using for the spine? Is it some sort of canvas/linen bookcloth or textured cardstock? It reminds me of the first hardback editions of A Series of Unfortunate Events by Lemony Snicket that I grew up reading.
Your dog is so cute ❤❤❤
New subscriber here. Your channel is both informative & relaxing.🙂 Thank you so much & God bless you.❤
Is there a reason why you glue your endpapers on instead of sewing them to the textblock? Also I LOVE these videos!!
I love your works ,they're so beautiful 😍❤️. Can i ask what kind of paper you use for the books?
Found your channel through JM Things!
What type of paper do you use for the covers and spine?
What the size of your spacer? How did you determine it?

What kind of thread that you use? How many ply, 2 or 3 ?
Very nice video and meticulous work. I like to do pen and ink sketching --- but your books are so beautiful, I would feel a little intimidated actually sketching in them! May I ask what the symbol/meaning of your right foreman tattoo is? Thanks...
I love your process nd end results. Do you give lessons?
Is it possible to do a sketchbook using 300 gsm cotton paper?
