Brigandine: The Underappreciated Tactics RPG Series

Ойындар

Brigandine is a totally underappreciated tactical RPG series that spans 22 years with only two entries. You got Rune Knights, hex grids, OP dragons, and lots more. Forsena and Runersia are the bread and addictive gameplay is the filling in this big tactics sandwich. Let's go questing for a new sword but only return with malaria! This is for you Brigandine!

I had the PS game, and now thanks to you, I know about the modern Runersia, which I will be getting on Steam. Thank you much! 😇

This is one of my favorite game during the PS1 era, played the hell out of it everyday, glad to know that some people still appreciate this series.

The character design of Brigandine LoF was amazing.

I’m in the middle of Dragon Force, and it’s taking some time to get my bearings, but I’m enjoying it. I’ve tried Brigandine and it just felt like there were too many mechanics and shit to be considering at all times. Sometimes I want to just battle already, ya know? But maybe after finding joy in the Dragon Force gameplay loop I may enjoy these games when I revisit it eventually.

My brother actually had this game when we were in school and I liked it but it was too complicated for my simple child brain and I never got far

Thanks. I wanted to know more about this game I just found recently. For me it was an instant classic. edit: the original, Forsena

I never played the enhanced re-release of the first one, though it always sounded like an interesting balance/addition work.

you are incorrect sir, you can play as esgares empire but you have to put in a code. Per Gamefaqs: At the General Select Screen press Start, L2, and R1 at the same time. Begin a game to control the Esgares Empire.

Great review /retrospective on the series. It's a shame this game is so ignored by most people. FYI there is a cheat code for the original us version to play as Esgares, yeah I know it's old school, but it is there. Wish you covered grand edition more as it's mostly regarded as the definitive ps1 edition. I personally love most of its changes except for the font and music, for those I prefer the original.

I really did not hate the battle animations of Brigandine 1 but I know I’m in the minority on that one.

Grand Edition is better than LoF.. BTW monsters can equip gears even in LoF or GE

Polygonal graphics are generally overhated, and they always act like every 16-bit sprite based game looks good, when many games look terrible by today’s standards.
