Hi! Can you show how to change the material? I'm having trouble changing it from the Mechanical Module an dI'm guessign it's because it is not a solid but a set of edges.

In Workbench, there are a stack of cells and one is called Engineering Data. You double click on that to create a new material or edit the Structural Steel, which is the default material. After that you click on Refresh to bring that new or changed material into the model. If you have a new material, in Mechanical, you need to expand the Geometry branch and select all the line bodies. In the Details window is the Material Assignment where you have a pull down for the materials that are available in that model. If you just changed the properties of Structural Steel, then that is already assigned to the line bodies.

Please join studentcommunity.ansys.com/ and post this question in the Geometry category. There are many SpaceClaim tutorials there also.

Hi, I tried to simulate a cantilever c channel beam with a point load acting along the beam local z axis but the deflection that I obtain is different from that one calculated with the theoretical formula v=FL^3/(3EIyy). Is this a bug or I m missing something??

The formula you show is for Euler beam theory. Ansys uses Timoshenko beam theory in their beam elements. If you use a Timoshenko beam theory formula, you will get the same answer as Ansys. Or you can use an obsolete beam element that uses Euler beam theory then Ansys will match the answer you got.

@@ansysfeaexamples9351 yeah but i think the major problem was that I applied the load at the centroid and not at the shear center and so the analytical solution did not consider the rotation of the the midline due to torsion
