Why are people so invested in what other people wear to their wedding? If the woman wants to wear black, how does that hurt anyone?

I think it’s more about making sure that’s what the bride truly wants. This bride said it herself, black was more forgiving that she didn’t think she’d be pretty in white.

Normally I’d agree, but it’s clear her cousin wanted her to knock down the walls of negativity and self doubt so she could have the wedding she always dreamed of.

@@elizabethalberico6133not every dress can be sized all the way up and still be beautiful on. But, not every dress can be sized all the way down and still look gorgeous on a body either. It’s just a fact that different styles happen to look better on some sizes than others! And I can’t think of any way we’re ever going to change that!! Okay - I’m hooked on the series and I particularly love that there’s this show and another (maybe from New York? I can’t recall recall right now. 🤷🏼‍♀️🤷🏼‍♀️), both of which are designed for “curvey girls.” Every bride should feel beautiful on her wedding day!! Make-up and hair can help a lot; but wearing a beautiful dress that honestly suits you is the biggest part,my honest, personal opinion! Clare-bear just glowed in that dress!! In fact, she nearly made me cry! The ladies at this dress shop truly know how łto fit a woman and carry it appropriately!

Love how the staff was able to make size a non-issue and bring glam to us curvy girls. 😍

White dresses (like diamonds) weren’t the norm and just came into prominence in the last 100+ years. Personally I thought the black dress looked great on her. Wish her friends would have been more supportive from the start, but happy that she left with a dress she liked.

I don't see the problem in wearing a lovely black evening dress to her wedding, and not something that looks like a compromise between a white wedding dress with a touch of black. Go big or go home.

There's no problem. But the problem is that she wanted to wear black because she thinks she won't look good in white. It's not a choice out of what she really wanted but a choice she made out of negativity because she does not want to go out of her comfort zone. In the end what she really wanted is white, just too scared of trying it.

I actually thought she looked fabulous in the black dress!!!

These women really know their stuff! I just love watching them perform their magic with the brides and seeing the big beautiful smiles on the brides when they find their dresses.

Al and Jo are wonderful with every woman that goes into their shop. "Marvelous miracle makers of most"

How sweet when the bride cried upon opening her eyes to see how beautiful she looked in the last dress.

I just love the two ladies' helping brides to overcome whatever their fears, and then finding the most beautiful dress that the bride loves.

My Lord!!! That first Ivory dress Claire put on looked so good on her. SHE was the star! So incredibly beautiful. What a gorgeous bride!!!

I can't get over the fusion of her English accent and American accent from living in California. It's somewhat gorgeous. I'm so intrigued by it. I just want her to keep talking! 😂 she looks gorgeous though. What a beautiful bride.

I loved that ivory gown with the roses at the beginning of this episode. Very pretty. I wish Jo and Al had gotten Clare to try on that one.

I breaks my heart the times I show up for events and am the only obese person - art lessons or scuba diving class, snow-ski lessons, guided nature hikes. And it's frustrating to try to exercise - things like bike riding - and not be able to find large size women's biking shorts.

It is so heartwarming to see that her family really care a great deal for her. 💞👏👏👏👏

Good for you girl. I was a large bride and dreaded having to wear a wedding dress. But when I found the one I liked, I wanted to skip down the road in it. 29 years later, it still fits me so well done you for being open to change.

Funnily enough the shoes I wore happily all day (even walked to the registry office and back because it wasn't far and the parking was dreadful there) never fitted me again so I only wore them that once. I could still fit easily into the dress but no one had told me having children makes your feet bigger!

I liked the first white gown better on her, but both were beautiful gowns!!

She looked bridal in both black & white. ☺️

I had such an amazing experience with the woman who helped me find my dress. As soon as I had it on I knew. I got the happy tears and everything. Every bride deserves that feeling. Nice work ladies!

I know none of these people, but I was crying with them!

I actually thought the black dress looked the best, I hope she didn’t feel pressured out of it if it’s secretly what she wanted, I worry she may have just been being agreeable. I absolutely hated when the rep said she was on the entourage’s side, you’re supposed to be on the bride’s side always and advocate for what she wants, not what her friends or family want. I hope she is genuinely happy with what she chose and that it wasn’t that she just compromised because she was outnumbered.

I can see where you're coming from, and I guess we'll never really know. But based on her reactions to each dress, I think she did end up with the one she really wanted. She said that she always pictured a white dress but she also never pictured being a plus sized bride. She said that she was comfortable in black because it was "more forgiving" than ivory. To me, she really didn't seem happy in the black dress - she liked it, sure, but she wasn't glowing the way a bride does when you find your perfect dress. She got that glow in the last dress that she tried on.

I totally agree with the sentiment that we should always be on the bride's side. However the consultants never like refused to get her black dresses. They let her try it on, saw her reaction, and then suggested she give ivory a try. They guided her, but if she insisted on black they definitely would have followed her lead. I think they just wanted to understand why she wanted black and we learned it was due to her insecurities.

In fairness, Jo didn't say she was on the entourage's side in front of the bride, she said it to camera when the bride wasn't there to hear it. Plus, both Jo and al have been doing this a long time; they're part therapists as well as bridal consultants, and they get a sense for when a bride is making a choice based on 'settling' rather than because they really want it. And they were right in this case. You could see the way the bride's face and body language changed the minute she saw herself in the first ivory dress - the black dress she 'thought' she loved was just "mmm yeah, that's really nice..." but when she saw herself in the ivory she just lit up... and there was no going back to black after that!

Al & Jo you ladies are amazing. The way you treat each lady you make her feel so special. Totally love you ladies all the way from South Africa❤️

I felt it would be a bit silly turning up at the registry office in a wedding dress (plus we didn't have much money) so I had a cream coloured knee length dress with flowers on it and little fabric covered buttons down the front so it still felt a bit 'weddingy' It's our silver anniversary in a few weeks.

I wore shocking pink velvet with ivory antique lace trim to our (very small) wedding. Lost him this past week after 52 years of marriage.

It not the color that matters it's the cut of the dress....well done, Jo and Al!!!

Im getting married in a red wedding dress. 1) I saved a ton of money opting for a color dress rather than a white dress. (Think $200 vs $1200). 2) I literally ignores all the white dresses and my eyes went straight for the red one. 3) I look like I winter queen in my red dress and fur shawl and I'm totally living for it. 4) Red is my favorite color. 5) Red was the color my fiance wore when we first met and on our first date.

@@SyedaTasnia I went to a bridal bouquet and they seemed offended that I wanted a red wedding dress. They claimed that it's not bridal. They were jerky about other things as well. Ended up not buying a dress from them.

Funny at the end there where the two friends were giggling about it’s being time to get the bridesmaid dresses that will likely be black.

I'm so glad that Jo and Al made the bride realize that a plus-size bride can wear ivory and white and look good. It has so much to do with the silhouette, cut, and fabric. She looked lovely in both ivory dresses.

Personally I kind of like the idea of wearing a dress you love and feel comfortable in for your wedding, then possibly being able to reuse it in the future. If I ever get married I will definitely try to pick something that either is a two piece and can be combined with other things to wear again, or that I can alter later. It seems like a waste to find a dress I love only to wear it once because it's only suitable for a wedding setting...and since I won't have children, it's not like I could pass the dress on or something. I thought the black dress was not only beautiful on her but also had potential to be reused. But in the end it's important that she got whatever makes her the happiest!

Well I’m a very sentimental person and I would prefer having the dress for that occasion only. I wouldn’t want my dress to be associated with other memories, but thats my preference!

This is one episode I'd love to see some of the wedding afterwards. This is a case where the entourage meddling was done gently and for a good reason: nobody should marry with a dress chosen for perceived praticality, but something that makes you glow, feel beautiful and the princess every woman should be at her wedding day.

I had black and red for my first wedding. Loved it. Had black and white for my second wedding. Loved the red more than the white. It's personal choice, end of. Not everyone wants a princess dress for their wedding. Couldn't think of anything worse

I loved this episode...usually I hate it when others try to tell a bride how to look...but I think this time...her friends just wanted her to see herself and not hide behind the blk dress...she looked absolutely beautiful in the ivory dress and it was more flattering....and I'm glad they pushed her to look beyond and not hide.
