    Its interesting. He stands wider, grips wider, and starts lower than just about any trainer would tell you to do, but for him its the best way.

    A good trainer would know that everybody is built differently. Some guys need to stand wide if they are like Shaw, some are built for sumo, some are built to pull with a rounded upper back like KK.

    Brian got such huge and strong hips (well obviously he is incredibly strong and big all around but his hips really standout in comparison to most) so getting low and wide is were he can make the most use of those hips.

    He gets lower because it acts more like a squat at that point. he grips wider and stands wider because he is so wide.

    Nick, you need to improve your form. I'd recommend not using a belt until you learn to keep a neutral spine and get your knees out of the way of the bar. Also, you're going to want to keep your head in more of a neutral position.

  • @gottfriedosterbach3907

    @gottfriedosterbach3907

    7 жыл бұрын

    For some it is, but keep in mind he is 6 foot 8 and he was 320 when rail thin as a basketball player. Try it out and see what works for you, but very few people have the body mechanics where a super wide conventional stance is optimal. Shaws stance is a wide as I ever have seen. Most tall people that like wide stance like Mark McQueen are just a bit wider than the standard. For most people past a certain point sumo or semi sumo is a better option.

    Brian Shaw is exactly right. Some people's hips are wider and their femurs sit more retroverted in the ball-and-socket joint. Mine do somewhat and my feet need to be pointing outward more as a result. Cookie-cutter "works for everybody" solutions do not exist in the real world, and questioning things and experimenting can show you what you need to progess.

    Almost every instructional deadlift vid says to pull the slack out of the bar. Then I see Brian Shaw not pulling the slack out....just exploding upwards. Or at least it appears that way. You can hear the "click" as he makes his ascent. Just wondering if the whole "pull the slack out" is B.S. Eddie Hall talks about whipping the bar. Not exactly in line with pulling the slack out either.
