Brian Setzer, James Intveld, Billy Zoom -- FULL SHOW

Brian Setzer, James Intveld, Billy Zoom, on Art Fein's Poker Party 5/4/87
++++
"In 1974 Billy Zoom, still then known as Ty Kendall, came to my house to borrow a copy of Dusty Springfield's Greatest Hits. His band the Alligators (CD, Garage Records, 1996) got a call to back Dusty up at Shirley's Penalty Box, a club run by L.A. T-Birds roller derby team captain Shirley Harding. In fact Dusty never sang; she was there hanging around her roller-derby pals alright, but didn't want the spotlight." -- from Another Fein Mess, 11/98 www.sofein.com

    The 80s were such a blur - high all the time,young dumb & full of come- i think i was at the palladium on sunset when i stumbled in with the soon to be mother of my daughter. Had a great time with the rockabilly crowd as many were trying to break in the genre at that time. I think it wS like 82-83 allthe punk bands were on deck and the ska bands had their scene as well . The hair bands were pretty Much limited to Gazaries & the starwood and hanging out at the rainbow.😊 Im 65 now...good times everything was so new including the new wave bands ha ha.

    Weird I saw both X and Stray Cats at the same club (Merlyn’s in Madison WI) on different nights. X was July 82 right as Under the Big Black Sun was coming out. The Replacements opened. Stray Cats I think was 82. Definitely before they got big. They came on at like 1am hours after expected and it was so hot people almost rioted before they came on.

    87 was that odd moment in Zoom's career when he had left X and was drifting about. Billy's guitar work was actually tasty on Ain't Love Grand, which was not a great album. I saw X in 1987 at the Universal Ampitheater with Jerry Lee Lewis and fIREHOSE. It was an astounding concert, but too bad I missed Billy. Tony Gilkyson was playing with X and he was excellent.

    Didn’t Morrissey and Marr decide to cover “Marie’s the name . . . . “ as an intro to “Rusholme Ruffians” during live sets and it ended up on RANK. The Smiths live album.

    The fact that even Brians parents never heard of Gene Vincent or Eddie Cochran says a lot about American Music Industry, without CBS FM oldies station you never would have heard be bop a lula

    @@yournamehere6719 Yes, Billy is great. A real survivor and genuinely nice man. I've had the pleasure of seeing X dozens and dozens of times since their return over two decades ago. Truly amazing band and group of musicians. I've also had the pleasure of meeting them. Really genuine and gracious folks, all. And of course absolutely amazing live band. I've never seen a bad X show. Not even once. Unfortunately due to a motorcycle accident leaving me severely disabled and current dire circumstances my last show was in 2018. But I hope to make it out to see them one last time. Somehow. I catch the youtube uploads and all that. They seem great as ever. Glad you enjoyed them.

    I wouldn’t say they “never went anywhere”. All 3 men are listed in Wikipedia, have recorded numerous albums and CDs between themselves, and have done 1000’s of performances over the past 40 years.

    They're very young and having fun... I don't think they're acting smug at all... As for them not going anywhere...The Stray cats are a household name, (not mention The Honey Drippers)X is a legendary band produced by Ray Manzerik ... They are in the Guardians Of The Galaxy 3 ( One of the biggest movies of this summer) If that's going nowhere,sign me up.
