Gabby has an amazing family. We don't know their history. We know gabby was young when her parents split. Whether they got on prior to Gabbys murder we don't know, and we dont need to know. This family has been in sync and united from the minute they knew something was wrong. That's what matters. These 4 ppl united in grief and the love they all shared for their beautiful, intelligent, gentle daughter. They are a force to be reccond with. They are all ensuring Gabbys legacy will live on.

I just shared my life situation in the other newest comment, and I was in a very similar boat as Gabby. I almost moved 800 miles away to be with my ex and cut off contact with my parents. I decided to cut contact from him instead. This was right before Gabby went missing. The case was unfolding at the same time my ex was sending pizzas from a large corporate chain to my house. My address had to be permanently blacklisted from that chain and I filed two police reports against my ex. Another attempted contact with me would've made him liable for an injunction of harassment. In my state, that meant he could've faced jail time or other penalties. I thought about pursuing a civil case because I'm in a different state for pain, suffering, mental distress, etc. I literally thought that dude was knocking on my door in the middle of the night when a delivery driver rang my door bell and called my phone. I felt genuine terror. My last words to my ex was "I fear that I'll be the next Travis Alexander". (He's Jodi Arias' victim who is unfortunately far less known, but he's known and remembered in Arizona where I live). Based on that specific comment I made to my ex, I thought he'd driven hundreds of miles away to... confront me just like Jodi confronted Travis. There were very limited services for male victims of DV prior to Travis Alexander's high profile case. There were also NO available shelter services for single adults who were not cohabitating with their partner and didn't have children. (Travis Alexander is remembered for his strong faith. Cohabitation and childbearing before marriage was forbidden for him, so he didn't have the same available resources other people have. I was also in an unhealthy interfaith relationship with someone outside of Arizona so I was in a similar bind. I am the next Travis Alexander and I'm alive. Stalking is also thankfully taken more seriously in Arizona because of what happened to Travis Alexander). I share this to demonstrate that 16 years later, Travis Alexander's legacy still carries on. But I was in a very similar situation to Travis Alexander, I miraculously survived and then Gabby Petito's story blew up in the airwaves. It was a weird reminder of what I'd endured and a reminder that my parents didn't have to travel to either rescue me from a horrible relationship or identify my remains.

Why no criminal investigation of them? Why only a *civil* suit that was settled for a confidential sum? That’s just a quick review. Regarding lack of prosecution… Roberta has close ties to the police due to a position she held in state and local government. This kind of narcissism happens, when a mother makes her child a surrogate partner - an incestuous relationship. Where the emotional needs of a mother, takes president over the child's needs. On the outside, it looks like a very close and loving relationship, but it is a toxic/abusive relationship. When a mother makes her child responsible for her emotional needs, tells the child all of her problems, doesn't teach the child boundaries, and doesn't allow the child to individuate/separate from the parent. This breeds narcissisme. The child sees the mother as a god, and if the mother is a god, then the child is a god, if there's no boundaries between them and if the mothers emotions are fused with the child's emotions. When the child grows up, the rage from that emotionel responsibility and incestuous relationship gets projected onto an intimate partner (unconsciously). Alle the rage, anger and frustration that Brian felt towards his mother, but could never express, is transferred onto Gabby, because she is perceived as his new mother. SICK!

@@l.w.paradis2108 Here is the text of the undated letter from Roberta Laundrie to her son: I just want you to remember I will always Love you, and I know you will always love me. (The wording at the end “you will always love me”, is grossly childish and demanding, and it’s inappropriate and lacks boundaries) You are my boy. Nothing can make me stop loving you. Nothing will or could ever divide us: no matter what we do, or where we go or what we say -- we will always Love each other. (Children age 0-15 years needs unconditional love, late teenagers and adults needs to be held accountable for their actions, and not be cuddled and told that they can’t do no wrong. That’s because their brains are somewhat developed and understand that actions equal accountability and responsibility. The wording is also something that is between spouses/lovers, not parent/ child. If you're in jail, I will bake a cake with a file in it. If you need to dispose of a body, I will bring show up with a shovel and garbage bags. (This is just disturbing! A mother’s unconditional love even if her son commits a crime - that’s toxic enabling and codependency behavior) If you fly to the moon, I will be watching the skies for your re-entry. If you say you hate my guts, I'll get new guts. Remember that love is a verb, not a noun. It's not a thing, it's not words, it is actions. Watch people's actions to know if they love you -- not their words. "Therefore I am certain that neither death nor Life, nor angels nor the ruling spirits, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers from above, nor powers from below, nothing in the entire created world can separate our love. Neither hostile powers nor messengers of heaven nor monarchs of earth. Nothing has the power to separate us... " (This is an inappropriate letter, which wording is fueled with words of sexualized innuendoes disguised as extreme closeness/love - it’s boundary crossing, because it’s the mother’s emotional wishes and needs being told to her grown son. Romans 8:38 (extended version!) (Nothing can separate us: "not hatred, not hunger, not homelessness, not threats, not even sin, not the thinkable or unthinkable can get between us.) ~Not time. Not miles and miles and miles.~ (Again wordings fuels with inappropriate emotional needs of the mother and only things that you should write to your intimate spouse - it’s the mothers needs for the ultimate control and demands to be loved by her son, but it should be the other way around. The son is his mothers surrogate husband) Emotional incest is so incredibly damaging and hard to spot, because it’s often seen as love. But it is actually meeting the emotional needs of the mother, not the child. Often does kind of mothers can’t tell the difference between a spousal relationship and a child relationship- it’s the same for them. Often these mothers grew up with the same confusion about sexual and emotional boundaries. Imagine you getting a letter like that from your mom - it makes my skin crawl!

If you are experiencing the type of situation you describe then you are with the wrong person. You know the old idea that women like the "bad boy" and that nice guys finish last? Well, there you go. Also, a lot of women believe they can change their "bad boy" partner. It's part of that nurturing psyche.

I'm conflicted on the statement "does not deserve any mentioning." When I was in Junior High, I was in a very dark place in my life. However dark my mental state was, I could NEVER think about taking the life of someone else, my own, I came close, but no one else. However, I believe all (or almost all) parents see their child as a person who could never hurt anyone, atleast to the extreme as Brian did. However, if we let people know that people, even YOUR offspring, could be in a dark (and... what word would suffice? beyond messed up) enough mental state, maybe they (the parents and close friends) could try to get help sooner. As I said before, I have never been in a mental state to take someone else's life, and I'm sure many if not all (or any) reading this would agree. But even if it can't help the mentally ill, maybe the innocent can be saved.
