if all other punks are dirty slobs living in filth than the most punk rock thing to do is be the opposite. Punk has become a poser scene with costumes purchased at Hot Topic. Real punk is a “fuck you, I’ll do what I want” attitude.

He was also a ”pre tour guitar player” for REM, but got the call from Bad Religion just before the Monster tour. Went with that instead since they wanted him as a full member of the band, not just an ”extra”. As Brian himself put it: ”That's me in the corner, choosing Bad Religion."

I met him, Jay and Brooks after a show in 2008 or so...really humble and funny. My brother and I were just standing out in the parking lot 100 feet from the tour bus sort of hoping to catch a glimpse of them walking out and they came up to us.
He has some awesome riffs. I always thought that’s what stood out about Bad Religion was the fact they have awesome hooks and riffs. Not just down stroking and palm muting. Also, I met Brian Baker after a Beach Rats show. Literally one of the nicest dude I have ever met. Very humble.
@4:33 ...just....I have no words for how AMAZING Minor Threat was..best punk band of all time IMO. Watching Brian play that now is surreal...totally rad to see that...TY Brian for all youve given to music and the punk scene dude.
Man, that Minor Threat riff takes me back
I remember when I was 12 years old back in '95, my friends bro came home from uni the one holiday and had a whole bunch of new MP3s. Back in those days, MP3 was a new concept and was like gold. If you could download just one and share it with your friends you were the man. (I live in South Africa) Anyway among the REM, Live and Green day in that list of MP3s, was an album from a band that was untitled. I remember clicking and listening to one of their songs called 'Infected'. There was just something about this band that felt 'different' from all the other pop alternative rock I had heard. They were on another level and I was drawn to their honest, raw and aggressive sound. A few years went by and I never knew who this band was until I was finishing up high school and a fellow punk (my best friend to this day) played me Recipe for Hate album he had on tape. I immediately recognized the lead vocalist. It was like an epiphany for me cause at the tender age of 12 I was so drawn to this genre but didn't even know what punk rock was.

Best video I have seen in a long time. Thanks for sharing!
Brian is a class act. Saw him in Dag Nasty at a place called The Outhouse in Lawrence KS. One of my all time favorite shows. Still got the shirt. He is still a pivotal musician in fabric of Punk Rock.
Awesome. The Minor Threat riff made my day (and gave me something to practice)

absolute legend. those dag nasty and minor threat riffs are all time classics
The first song I ever learned on guitar was Straight Edge by Minor Threat. That was 1983. It was all downhill from there. Many bands, hundreds and hundreds of shows played, and $tensofthousands spent on gear over the past 40 years. Thanks a lot Brian! Look what you guys made me become!! I’m even wearing a Dischord sweatshirt as I type this.
Discovered him when he was in Junkyard. Such a great band! 👍🏻🎸
The first riff he wrote was one of the best song I ever heard. Really made me think again and again and again and again. What a punch in a face.
"think again" is such a great song killer riff for sure! That and "Look back and laugh" are definitely two of the best riffs ever in my opinion. Great vid thanks for sharing 👍

I spent an afternoon with him when The Meatmen played a club where I worked. He's a great player and a funny sumbitch. Also, I've poached a bunch of his riffs over the years--sometimes deliberately, but usually I realize it when someone says, "That sounds a bit like _____. Have you ever heard it?"
This was awesome
Saw this dude, while rocking out front row at the Trocadaro in Philly somewhere around 94. I couldn't stop watching him shred. So much noise and energy was coming out of his guitar with seemingly such little effort, Shit was epic Also dag nasty is under rated af
