Breeding Zebra Danios

Үй жануарлары мен аңдар

1- Place a coarse plastic mesh inside the breeding tank and the water level in the tank is adjusted so that the fish have about 5 centimetres to swim in. This ensures that they are unable to eat the eggs.
2 - Zebrafish reproduction depends strongly on photoperiod. Mating is initiated at the onset of light, and spawning typically takes place over a short period thereafter. Zebrafish can occasionally breed throughout the day.
3 - Zebrafish reach sexual maturity at the 3rd month of their development, the breeding fish should be between 7 and 18 months of age for maximum embryo production. An optimal breeding frequency for zebrafish is every 10 days.
4 - Keep and condition males and females danios in separate tanks with up to 8 females or 16 males per 40 litres tank. Feed the fish two three times per day.
5 - Transfer the males into the tank with the females at a ratio of 1 male to 2 females.
6 - Generally, they will spawn within 24 hours and you will see the base of the tank covered in small clear eggs. If they do not, leave them for another 24 hours.
7 - The embryos normally hatch after about 3 days of development but do not need to be fed until 4 days after fertilization. At that time, feed the larvae live microorganisms which can be prepared as an infusoria.
8 - Microworms are an excellent food for small fry, and are one of the easiest live foods to culture.
9 - When the baby fish have reached 21 days of age, they are ready to be transferred to a larger aquarium.

    I gave away zebra danios a couple years ago because I wanted something different. A few days later I woke up to a tank full of tiny fish . I was so confused, at first I thought they were bugs lol. I rehomed 7 and ended up with 100 more Haha. I now have 13 giant danios but I plan on adding 10 zebra danios soon . I think they are beautiful little fish . And will school well with my others .

    I was thinking they were baby Pygmy Cory's because they kept on just laying around on the bottom around the gravel. I vacuumed a bunch up while cleaning my tank, and syphoned them into a breeding cage attached to the tank. One of them is actively swimming already. And eating the particles from this insect food i have. The rest are still laying about, attaching themselves to the side of the breeding cage. I only have a ten gallon, so i'm pretty sure i'll be selling them, or giving them away to a friend.

    I don't know if you were successful or not but what worked for me is putting a tiny glass bowl full of java moss in the tank w a rock holding down the moss. The danios lay their eggs in there because it's more safe for them not to get eaten. But then you can take those eggs to a different tank

  • @Nemesis0513

    @Nemesis0513

    Betta don’t always eat them, betta use their mouths to pick the eggs up and put them in their nests because they don’t have limbs and the nests are up at the water surface. Danios just don’t really care because they can produce so many young at a time and are much more active.
