Breathing with Bessel: TRF Tuesday with Bessel van der Kolk
The Trauma Research Foundation is happy to have you at TRF Tuesday!
For more info visit: traumaresearchfoundation.org/...
Join Bessel van der Kolk in an experiential breathing exercise to calm our nervous system, bring us out of the past and into the present, and help us synchronize with others.
Every Tuesday, facilitators from diverse domains lead us in experiential practice. Each facilitator presents a series of 1 to 5 weekly sessions allowing us to build and integrate over time. Through their guidance, we discover greater personal expression and feel more grounded and connected to ourselves. No prior experience is necessary. Come as you are!

thank you Dr. Van Der Kolk, you are a great great man!
I didn't expect this but I cried within about 15 seconds of putting my hand on my chest, I wonder how much of my life is spent with that feeling lurking just beneath the surface

Can't stop crying
Having a Thai masseuse work my ribcage has made breathing super pleasurable and meditation a delight.
Thank you so much. Your calming voice obviously made me feel safe to release pelvic trauma ans restore inner safety sind stability. It has been WONDERful 💚
There should be someone who is able to answer our questions, like a spokesperson for bessel.
he made a good point about making time for the self, and examining how much time we spend on social media, tv, email, and other time distractors from self-care
Bessel, thank you very much for helping me understand not only the effect of trauma on the body with your great book, perhaps even more important to me is learning how we can use these types of techniques with ourselves, our patients and loved ones to experience through of our own body the sensations of security and tranquility that we can offer ourselves.
Thank You very much for sharing this exercise.
I embarked on the journey of personal development to deal with all those inner demons that developed throughout my high school time. I think most of it was in the name of escaping myself. It's nice to get reminded to hold the balance. We can't just fight against who we are.
Thank you for this, it was very helpful & informative & easy to follow.
This was very informative and helpful. Thank you for posting. It was great to see Bessel as well.
Just.. Thank you 🤗
Thanks so much ~ 🌟
Thankyou so much 😊
wow!!! i was so activated and this really helped me to downregulate. I typically am fighting the sensations and end up so tense and anxious.
I wonder if this would help insomnia or ward off a panic attack. Extraordinarily soothing

Yes, it could interrupt a panic attack.
Very helpful, thank you.
This is beautiful- but what if you are living in the trauma right now? Meaning the trauma is currently happening, under the survival stress every day
Terrific, I’m a big fan of breathing since reading BREATH. I have HPA axis dysfunction which effects the way I breathe...still have trouble with doing it right.
What is the tapping? Is there a link?
I'm dying to know what Bessel thinks of fellow Dutchman Wim Hof...I find his breathwork extreme. Would he ever recommend ice baths?
noticed how much tension i carried in my neck and feet.
I have dysfunctional breathing for many yrs. I think its my brain dysregulation 😢
No wonder I'm a physical wreck.
