Breaking Kayfabe #02 | Jerome Young

Ойын-сауық

The man who made New Jack synonymous with danger, trouble, and controversy is the subject of a new series. To get to the bottom of what drove the character we came to know, we have to climb inside. The memories of a school teacher were not erased by the years in prison.

@@L_Train it's hard to say... He did have signs of some sort of early dementia but idk if it was Parkinson's specifically. I only went to kick it with him 3 maybe 4 times a month whenever he was feeling ok enough. Like most wrestlers he was pretty beat the fuck up physically. He also dealt with the effects of the brain damage from Vic Grimes fat ass falling on his head. His headaches were literally 247 but sometimes he'd tell me to get the fuck out of his house because his head literally felt like it was splitting down the middle. He also couldn't see anything out of his left eye I think it was(might be wrong on that). I really did feel bad for J... But if I showed any sort of sympathy or compassion towards him he would get pissed and threaten to kill me while we argued about it. I knew he wouldn't do anything to me but the shit would get heated sometimes because he is a stubborn prick. I love him though, good dude really. Rest in Peace Jerome

Guys like him and Cornette made the "shoot" interview business IMO. Their early shoot interviews were huge on youtube back in the day, honky tonk man also had some great ones early on. its the reason i started to listen to that type of content. These days i don't even follow current wrestling shows, but im still fascinated with the lore of the wrestling business, now that everything is out in the open we get to hear all of these old stories. I feel bad about how much that cracked skull affected him. Like that pain, insomnia, blindness, brain damage is all permanent ever since that fall. You can't tell those things just by looking at him even with the blindness. All you can see is the scars from where he got so much color over the years which isn't much in the grand scheme of things. All the really messed up health stuff was invisible. Even with the brain damage, cracking his skull is a lot worse than the wrestling CTE stuff you normally hear about but you can tell in the interviews he's still there and can think just fine, maybe with some pauses, but not like what you hear with Benoit and such. lots of wrestling documentaries still treat him like a heel cuz he was did some messed up stuff in the ring. But it was ECW, and he was doing what paid so it's more like paulie was the violence equivalent of vince's sex pest stuff imo. He had a ton of potential with how good his promos were, even when he's half-blind with those injuries, but ecw used him up and spat him out letting him be the fall guy in more ways that one.

That’s exactly why he stabbed people over and over again in his life. Always seemed like an excuse he made up to make it alright to hate her in his mind. New Jack was always working people. He was the last of the old Kayfabe. There are many people who STILL think he was trying to really kill Vic Grimes.

Who was he talking about when they are talking about race and Jack says “I’m not gonna say his name but he kissed ass all the way to WWF down to TNA”? RIP New Jack 🙌🏻. Got to see him live in his prime back at the arena in the late 90s!🤘🏻 Sean is the greatest shoot guy , hands down. The pod with Nash rules , very down to earth dudes Peace and love ✌🏻🖤

I'm Like number 333 ironic cuz most people don't realize new jack was only half evil!😂😂 He'd like that one! No lie though new jack is my number 2 all time favorite wrestler behind Scott Hall and init because he wasn't as historically important as the moves Hall made in his career but new jack was the original Indy Darling he just so happened to not be so darling and more so daring. Weather he was working or not new jack was just that new jack and didn't even find Jerome young again until the last 5 years of his life. He was happy and had a family and was settling in to the normal world finally just before his heart attack. Both guys stories are tragic tales with bitter sweet happy endings though.

He had a happy ending. It always messed with my head until I was talking to his tattoo guy. Losing him while he was at a point where he was peaceful, he was happy, his career was beginning a resurgence-- I couldn't make it make sense. But he said, "That's how you want to go." He was right. He would've hated being old, or being sick. Knowing he was happy means a lot.
