Mary Queen of Scots is my 15th great grandmother.I'm 5'11" and so is my daughter as Mary was. I'm so glad her son James was made King. I'm angry what Queen Elizabeth allowed. She should have worried what heaven may have done with her soul for what she did to Mary.

I read that Henry Lord Darnley appeared to have been strangled. It seems he and a servant escaped into the garden before the explosion. Marks of strangulation were found on both of their necks

Actually, no marks were found on his neck. They're positive he was murdered. They believe a pillow, however, was used to murder him via suffocation. He definitely didn't die in the home that was set ablaze.

a great blog on Queen Mary. Whilst i have always loved our great history, during lockdown, my son and i embarked on a voyage of discovery on my father scottish roots and found out some remarkable facts. It turns out my great grandfather x12 was Sir James Balfour of Pittendreich. He was reported to have been Mary Queen of Scots favorite Advisors but also had a hand in the assination of Queen Marys Husband Lord Darnley & very probably her downfall too. A bit of a scoundrel but rather bizarrely, he was so cunning and devious, he managed to survive that turbulent era and kept his head!

How very interesting! Perhaps you should write or commission a book on him? Especially as it’s Mary Queen of Scots, her life still captivates so many people. Much is written about royalty themselves but far less about those who brought them either support, rebellion or death. I do envy you! My ancestors are all dull, poverty stricken peasants from Lancashire and Northumberland.

@@Drinadraws thank you Alexandra. It was quite a discovery seeing that my son and I were merely researching my father's biological father as he has remained - till now a mystery. You can only imagine my excitement finding out the Mary Queen link!! Just wished i was able to tell my dad it all before he died 4 yrs ago. As it happens, he was born into very poor and humble farming household but joined the army at 17 where he then had a very distinguished 33 year army career rising to the rank of Regimental Sergeant Major. I am very proud of him

Elizabeth's sign-off on Mary's death warrent set a precedent for the de jure execution of King Charles I, Mary's grandson. I think Elizabeth's regret was related to her fear that by ordering her cousin's death she put her own life in danger by 'regularizing' the execution of a monarch.

Princess Dianna was the descendant of Mary's grandsons Charles I illigitimate bastard child. So when Prince William sits on the throne the Jacobites will finally get their wish and have Stuart blood back on the throne.

I've been studying Mary a lot and I doubt that she's been plotting. I also doubt that Elizabeth I really wanted to execute her. In those times, it was easy to play people against one another. But what I'm wondering about is how people can break into her tomb. What for? Leave the dead ones in peace.

Some of my family is buried at Westminster Abbey. A friend traveled there and brought me back a pebble as requested. Probably a bone of one of my ancestors. Greetings from Clan Johnston in the USA!

The ‘plot’ that Mary was supposedly involved in to replace Elizabeth may have been a ‘false flag’ operation to get rid of her. There have been various articles researched. Henery. Elizabeth’s father did this with his wife Ann Boleyn.

It's all about politics, especially when you can be arrested, tortured and executed if you offended the wrong person. These things were fairly common among those in royal families and other high political positions. Life back then was brutal and religion played a large part in it all. That's a very important part of the reason the United States of America was created. Back then, in some countries you could be executed for being the wrong religion. Our founding fathers wanted to get away from all of that. And now the democrats are trying to infiltrate our churches. We simply cannot let them destroy our country.

Yeah he never knew her and it’s possible he wasn’t interested in knowing her but I wonder if he was at least curious about her

Bc James was left in Scotland as an infant by his mother so he never knew her, never saw her again. He was only 20 when she was beheaded. He wasn't risking both thrones on the woman who birthed him, probably had his father killed, probably made threats against QEI. With all of that, he didn't have the power so how would he save her? 🙄

Someone in authority should review the inarticulate narration of this complex story to clarify who is who and where is where, who and why...................narration does not correspond often with the script.

I'm still lost as to why Elizabeth held her for almost two decades in prison. What was she supposed to have done? I understand her reasoning if she truly was involved in trying to kill the queen I understand. But what did she do to get on the Queen's bad side to begin with I don't understand?

I would imagine your collection would fill an entire room. But are the dolls original? Do you travel to different countries to collect them? Russia, France America, Sweden, Spain, Germany, and so on. It would be a rather expensive hobby, and the material would not be cheaply made. Do you trust online methods? Authenticity would be a must in something that is clearly historical. Anastasia would be a rare item to have in Russia, that is an original doll. Very pricey for most collectors. What exactly would be the Holy Grail of doll collecting? lol! Such collections must be nerve racking when children are around, and want to play with them. Might be a grand idea to put them in a locked room, with no key access for no one but yourself.

Mary made mistakes, yes. But she can't be blamed for Marie de Guise sending her to France to live and be engaged to Francis. Mary's primary mistakes were: * Trusting James, Earl of Moray. She should have banished him at the least, or put him to death, the first time he plotted against her throne. * Giving lands back to both the Protestants and Catholics who were against her. She instead, should have taken those lands and given them to those who actually were loyal to her, and she should have made sure they were part of her privy council! * She should not have married Darnley! Darnley's mother was dangerously ambitious and would have done anything to get her family, including sons, on a throne. * Rushing to Bothwell's side (four days nonstop on a horse) after he was injured in a skirmish. Then marrying him so soon after he was accused of plotting Darnley's murder. Not to mention, marrying him after he allegedly lured him to his castle and raped her. The law at the time would force Mary to marry him. People didn't believe he lured her or that he raped her. His affections for her were well known, as were hers for him. This led to more mistrust of Mary among Noblemen and everyday Scottish people alike. * Keeping David Rizzio as both an advisor and close companion to her reign. Not only were her husband and Rizzio found lying together in bed (not sexual, but it is believed they may have had relations) several times, but she had Rizzio in her bedchambers alone. That is unacceptable in today's standards, much less in times when women were the possession of their husbands. By Mary keeping him close, it led to jealousy on Darnley's side. Which led to Rizzio's murder. Not to mention, Scottish people were not trusting of foreigners, and David was Italian. This led to resentment by other Lords and those who made up the Privy Council. * Mary did not punish those who stormed the castle and helped in holding her prisoner. She did not punish those who murdered Rizzio. Lord Ruthven hated Mary. He was one of those involved in orchestrating her capture, and led the death campaign against David. She let him and the others involved, go, including Darley. She had valid legal reasons for putting Darnley to death, but she didn't. Mary sadly believed showing mercy would win her respect. It did not. *Not putting minister William Cecil to death. Most of the Lords in Scotland, especially James Earl of Moray, were in Cecil's pockets. He funded many of the coup attempts against Mary, and ultimately was the man who convinced Elizabeth to imprison Mary. Again, Mary believing kindness to the Protestants would earn her respect. *The same could be said for Reverend Knox (minus the convincing of Elizabeth to imprison Mary). He too had the Noblemen and Lords in his pockets, was behind many of the coups against Mary, and believed to have been involved in both Rizzio and Darnley's murders. She should have given him the death penalty, or banishment at the very least. Though Knox's reach and connections were far and long. Banishment would probably have done little to stop him. He was both a Protestant and Anti-Monarchist. His hatred for women was well documented, as was his hatred for female Monarchs. *Lastly, it could be argued that she should have converted to Protestantism. I personally believe she should have been able to practice the faith of her choice. But for political reasons, converting would have increased her chance of success. Mary was young, passionate, impulsive, and had quite a temper. However, she was sharp, loved by many, charming, and intelligent. She could have been the best queen of all time. Instead, she went down in history as the saddest fall from grace.

I believe plotting against the anointed Queen Elizabeth I made her not so innocent at all. There is plenty of legitimate evidence that she was plotting overthrowing her cousin. She was a handsome woman & a passionate monarch, but her passions overrode her intelligence, leaving no wisdom in her behavior.

Mary's first husband was strangled after a failed attempt to kill him via an explosion. Mary herself is something of a tragic figure who was an arrogant fool. Her actions in relation to Elizabeth deservedly brought about her own doom. I find her story a sad one, but ultimately I have little sympathy for her whereas I have come to feel much empathy for Mary I of England.

You got off to a good start but I've noticed in the last year or so that your channel is starting to cannibalize itself by double and triple dipping on subject matter that is almost exclusively salacious or morbid. This story was about girls or women, however one chooses to say it. Personally, I never tire of stories involving the history of the Kings and Queens of Europe. There are tv shows about Lizzie Borden and other "local" crime stories all the time. There's a lot more intrigue and historical mystery regarding European history. At least IMHO.

she should have been sent to Scotland, so Knox could have taken care of her body. Terrible Queen, bad judgement and no good politician. She was a complete failure and proved Knox right. That can not be said about Elizabeth I at all. She was clever.
