USC had zero chance to holding onto those 2 commitments from georgia. Did you think the SEC was just going to stand by while USC took 2 5*s from their backyard? Not happening. They were going to up the NIL offers til they won. Given USC's poor leadership and play the last 10 years, they should have passed on these players. Total waste of time given the status of the program. Riley needs to focus on CA players and competing with Oregon. His lack of priority is alarming and frankly makes me question his intelligence. He needs to wake the F up and start getting USC.

@@brianjacob8728swinging for the fences will never be discouraged in my book. They do need to keep the top instate prospects at home. HOV needs to get behind their staff and get them what they need to compete. Short of that Lincoln is doing all the things I expect from a coach trying to get the talent they want. I am on the Lincoln train till the end. The coaching changes will need to bear fruit on the field to lower the HOV impact required to get these prospects. But I like what I see from the coaching staff and they need support from HOV. It is that simple.

Why am I not surprised. It all starts with the BOT. The University cares about becoming Harvard West and Stanford South. Been going like this for years. Football is not a priority. Reality is USC itself has to come up with at least 15 to 20 million a year just to compete in recruiting. Other top programs like OSU, Alabama, Oregon ect all have at least 12 + million a year just for recruiting. USC just needs to stop dealing with a 3rd party outside source and just create a system within the university just for football recruiting .🤔✌️✌️

I'd really like to know who these informants are or strong sources??? Coach Link has already said that the new AD Cohen is the best fit for him, the new facilities are being built. Coach Link can't force Georgia kids to come all the way from the East Coast to LA, if the NiL was bad then how in hell did they get Bear to stay??? 11-3 and 8-5 is a much better start than Sark has at Texas and better than Kiffen at Ole Miss. If Coach Link fired Grinch last year they probably go 9-4 or 10-3, instead of 8-4. How do we know that the Georgia Duo didn't commit to SC knowing full well they were going to de commit using their commitment to increase their NiL profile. Some of u Trojan fans need to chill out and believe in our administration and coaching staff. Best believe SC is fully committed to winning, you don't pay your head coach top dollar and bring in an ultra competitive AD like Cohen to just lay it down. You also don't give Coach Link the resources to bring in the best defensive coaching staff in the country to just lay it down. Plus SC has been bringing in some Dawgs the last couple of recruiting cycles, Fountain, Shelby, Williams, Newby, Jones ETC, but I guess their chop liver. Breath easy and believe⚔️✌🏽

You have a chance to turn this around now that Grinch is gone. But as an OU fan I have to say until the recruits see it happening on the field, and some semblance of complimentary football, you're going to keep signing 4&5* guys early and losing them late. Now the good news is you got a good DC now. Just have to put something on tape that shows this is more than just a hire with no change from the HC and is in fact a change in philosophy to make things work for the D.

The problems here all start with Carol Folt, she is a bureaucrat, not a leader. Who is to blame for hiring Carol? Rick Caruso. He wanted to burnish his liberal credentials for his political career and Carol was the perfect "Woke" president, having lost her job at UNC because she couldnt stand up to the crazies that needed to tear down a statute. Folt destroyed the Trojan Clubs because they are mostly white males. Fundraising has plummeted under her. USC is a balanced school with people from many political persuasions. Let's keep it that way and Fire Folt. Let's stand out from the rest of the lame elite schools and hire a leader who is great and not focus on DEI or whatever craziness comes from either political extreme. Riley is a truly great coach and after learning a hard lesson last season, he is primed to win big within a few years. Let's not let him get stolen away by a smarter leader at another school or NFL team. We wont find a better coach than Riley, but no coach can win without support, particularly in the NIL era.

I agree %100 with TacticalTone5700. Some of these so-called SC fans have already throw in the towel on the 2024 season before the first play. Holding on to JT and IG commitments was always going to be a long shot. Recruiting top tier kids away from SEC territory is a difficult thing to accomplish for any school but for SC it's made harder because they're coming off a disappointing 2023 season with a defense that was dreadful the last 3 years. I believe in the new defensive coaching staff but they need to prove it on the field before top tier defensive recruits will take SC serious once again. Winning will cure a lot of the recruiting issues, but NIL will continue to play a significant role in SC's future success on the field.

  • @garrysinger9704

Riley's recruiting strategy is flawed. It relies on recruiting the top HS players from Georgia, Texas, Florida, etc. USC does not have the credibility to hold these recruits as their on-field performance has been poor for years. It's a very high-risk strategy relegating SoCal players as second class. The better short term and long-term strategy is to go back to Pete Carrolls's way. Sign the best SoCal players and then fill in with key players nationwide. Can you imagine, Nick Saban in 2007 implementing a recruiting strategy based upon stealing the top SoCal players from Pete and USC? He was too smart for that when he had to rebuild Alabama. This is one reason why Riley is not a big-time head coach yet as his strategy is flawed and is failing. Also, if USC's OL is garbage this year, JuJu Lewis will decommit and Riley will be toast.

If the Georgia guys would have stuck, your narrative would be completely different. What you need to understand is the SC coaching staff have been recruiting their asses off BUT, the NIL collectives continue to be the biggest problem. This had nothing to do with coaches. NIL is, essentially, paying players. If our NIL money is lacking, blame @PresidentFolt and the entire USC administration that disbanded all alumni clubs once Folt got here. This lays right in the lap of Folt. Now we need to raise money from alums and outside sources to pay players to play? Good luck. If Riley can't coach and win on the field, then he needs to go as well. I was skeptical of Riley's hire from the beginning. His contract is too long and he's way overpaid for what he's bringing to the field. Al Davis said, "Just win, Baby." Riley has yet to prove that. NIL won't make any difference if we don't win - that's been proven. Since Folt disbanded all alumni clubs, I haven't dropped a dime on campus...and I won't until Folt is gone. Fight On!

Him and the staff have done all that they can to land elite players but the USC administration, NIL and collective have failed him. This will be a death spiral to the program way worse than the sanctions as we sink to a perennial middle of the pack big 10 has-been like Nebraska stuck in mediocrity.

Riley does have some responsibility. He's the 2nd highest paid coach in the country. He's the one who brought Grinch with him and retained him for far too long. He knew what he was getting into at USC. Folt's record, politics, and lack of interest in athletics were not a secret. Did the coaches promise certain bag sizes without confirmation? Did HoV flat out lie about what they were willing to do? HoV leadership....are people not aware that the VP of Ops is Matt Lopes, son of Steve Lopes, who was fired by USC and was one of the most inept leaders in USC athletic history? Spencer Harris IMO, didn't have a strong enough resume to be hired as the Exec Director. The only person on that staff who is qualified IMO, is Magdi El Shahawy. USC is cheap, always has been. They have screwed over alums who graduated prior to 1990. And people want THOSE folks to donate more? They pay for Riley's ridiculous salary, that ridiculous mansion in PV, and yet another facility "upgrade". The well is only so deep and they want results. That said, these kids were predicted to decommit almost from the minute they got back to Georgia. NIL wasn't the only issue.

It's easy to criticize the USC's NIL administration, but no amount of management is gonna make up for the fact that they just don't have enough dough to throw around. The phrase people use to describe SEC schools: "it just means more" has never been more applicable. Without football, these schools would be relegated to the backwater. Applications would dry up. You think people are going to Alabama for the education? It's all about beer, ball, and boobs. It would become UAB without football and the same holds true for most of the SEC schools. Having a well-funded NIL program is a life or death proposition for them. Or you have the Oregons of the world where a bizzilionaire booster writes a blank check and money is no object. Seems like we need to adjust our expectations for USC. Given who they are, they will always be a 10-20th ranked team and occasionally they'll pop inside the top 10, but it appears the days of competing for a natty are, sadly, over.

Who is running the collective exactly? And why aren't they being asking directly about these failures? Some honest explanation is needed, instead of leaving everyone guessing as to why. Remember when Ryan Day publicly asked for 13 million. Apparently that works. OSU has had amazing classes and sits at number 1 right now. If HOV needs money, put it out there loudly, don't hide it. That's not working. Losing two 5* in a matter of days is a disaster.

NIL is def an issue. Has been; def needs to be fixed. But I think you're being overly dramatic. Last year's frosh class was consensus top 10 regardless of website. It was full of a bunch of 4 & 5 star, top 100 guys. The 2 guys / DL we lost this week are from Georgia. Seems more like a location thing; it's gon be hard prying the top dogs from the South. Also, the reality is we were pretty bad last year & that was in spite of having the best player in college. I think the top guys (especially on defense) are gon' have to see a much improved team / product first before they commit. And, do you blame them? So, this coming season is veeeery crucial to the success of recruitment moving forward. If we don't show much improvement & promise, we're cooked. PS: Just watched this On3 clip talking about our 2 de-commits & what happens now. Lol, they literally mirrored everything I said above. They said it's a great sign we're in the hunt w/ all these elite 5 stars; and that now we gotta prove it on the field to really clinch their commitments in coming seasons. kzread.info/dash/bejne/hmt5j8Oeo7LVndY.html
