Frank and Jason are back with a new episode of The DFO Rundown and to lead today’s show: the Edmonton Oilers are on their last leg. They started the podcast by breaking down what we saw in Game 3 last night as the Panthers jumped out to a big lead and then managed to just hang on for the victory.
Frank said watching the Oilers this series has been like a plane crash with the number of things that have gone wrong. Jason thinks it’s been more on the fact that Sergei Bobrovsky has been on a whole different level so far in this series.
Will the Oilers be able to push this series back to Florida? They wrapped up their Stanley Cup Final discussion with that question.
They got to Tyler and a new edition of Buy or Sell where he asked the guys about some of the new names on Frank’s Trade Targets list and the number of buyouts we could see this summer.
Patrik Laine is apparently looking for a fresh start, but how hard will it be for the Blue Jackets to move him? The Blues could be looking to really shake up their roster over the next month or so with players like Brandon Saad and Pavel Buchnevich on the board. Also, Frank gave us 9 potential buyout candidates, will a majority of them actually get to that point?
After that, they dug a little bit more into the Pierre-Luc Dubois situation and if a buyout is actually a possibility. They also talked about Jakob Chychrun and his availability in Ottawa plus if they’d be willing to consider a buyout of Joonas Korpisalo. That led to some talk about the goalie market.
They wrapped up with a conversation about the St. Louis Blues management plan with Alex Steen set to take over for Doug Armstrong in 2026, that was also coupled with an extension for Armstrong to remain as the President of Hockey Operations until 2029.

Last game Oilers started shooting more...for the first 2 games they held on to the puck too much looking for the best shot. They need to shoot more.

At the beginning you compare a 2.5 mil a year goalie vs a 10 mil a year all star goalie. I blame the team. Defense has been lacking, scoring hasn’t happened. They had time to replace skinner. They chose not to. It’s a team failure. Not skinner.
Some people like to defend Skinner and put the blame on anyone else who made a mistake. Ask yourself this... When the Oilers get a grade A chance and doesn't score, did the other team play it perfectly with no mistakes or did their goalie bail them out? Skinner is likely THE worst Oiler starter in the teams history. He at the very best is an NHL backup. With his absolutely brutal lateral movement I'd argue he's lucky to be in the AHL. Goaltending needs to be addressed asap if this team wants to win a cup. Once they have a reliable goaltender everything else falls into place
Gregor - look at the high danger chances for and against! The top 6 has had plenty of chances, how many missed tap ins, how many posts, how many 5 alarm saves by Bob? We've outchanced the Panthers in 2 of the 3 games, but have been outscored 11-4. Expected goals say we should be at least even, if not ahead. GOALTENDING IS NOT GOOD ENOUGH

Wow Frank Oilers really looked like a team ready to go home and out of gas 😂😂 I hope they look just as bad in game 5 and bring it back to Edmonton. Tough game on the road where the greatest player on the planet will get a chance to match up vs Mcdavid.

Goaltending is the difference. Change goalies and the series is 3-0 Edmonton
Since the 80s, 10 teams have been swept in the finals. If Oilers lose tomorrow they become the only team to get swept twice. With the cup and the broom in attendance, Oilers oil drop becomes a tear.

Well that didn’t happen! Sorry to burst your bubble, I was at one of those games! Sat behind Billy smith for two periods and he got a shutout ! islanders had one of the best teams ever and went on to win there fourth cup in a row, we took them down the next year for our first cup, Great memory’s! I have lots of them! I’m betting your a leaf’s fan and unless your 90 you don’t have any!

The Edmonton Oilers haven't looked good in any of the games. Changes may be necessary.

Does Gregor actually listen to the words coming out of his mouth? The Oilers offence isn't the issue. Bob is stealing the series and the Panthers D has been vastly superior to the Oilers D. It's like watching an NHL team's D against versus an AHL team's D.

You make very good points but so do the multitude of talking heads that feel they are important and unique, unfortunately you aren't. Begging for new subscibers is only going to get you less. Everybody knows by now that if they like something they can subscribe to support that person. Improve your content and presentation if you want more subscribers. Good luck,youre going to need it
