    I want to clarify something. I am NOT so incredibly prideful to believe that our tiny little channel has actually caused the huge spike in the prices of used Sequoias. I’m just mentioning that accusations that people have made against me.

    I think most understand that, but I think it’s worth to mention that a few articles have been published saying the sequoia is the next budget offroad/overland vehicle, so I think those are really to blame, although I do believe your channel helped that a bit. Personally, I’m okay with it. More value to our cars! The ones complaining should’ve bought one when we told them.

    A few yearss later and the Sequoias are still reasonably priced. Ultimately, I don't believe you did anything wrong, the word was going to get out at some point, and it takes an independent thinker to see it. You happened to be one of the first and you are trying to get followers and it is your work, or at least part of your work, you did nothing wrong. It would be like blaming a doctor for getting the word out about some new breakthrough medicine and the supplies run out because of it. The segment of the offroad community that whined and complained about what you did, are probably mostly lazy bums who don't want to spend any more money than can buy a 30 year old Corolla. The only thing that sucks about this is if the prices become hyper inflated because it becomes a trend everyone follows. I resent those people (trend followers, lemmings), but I still wouldn't blame people like you - I appreciate the info.

    The original alternator on my '02 gave out at 300k. I wrote a strong worded letter to Toyota telling them that I was disappointed that the alternator died before the end of the world. Starter still works like a top though, so I'll give the engineers some slack. '02 does not have the auto-crank feature on the starter. Must be a fancy smancy upgrade after the '05 facelift. Another battery issue I had was the cable end to the battery post broke, forcing me to spend $7.64 for a new post clamp. I'm going to go broke with the frequency and expense of the repairs. Please people, if you love your wallets, don't buy this rig.....so I can by another in 5 years!

    This has happened to my 2003 sequoia a couple of times. I tried to jump started with my second car with no success. For me it was the battery terminals doing bad connections. All inusually do is to disconnect the terminals and clena them up. 270k and still running strong :)

    Had to replace the starter on mine as the starter was grinding/hanging up and that was making noise around 160k at 169k I was concerned more as it was getting worse. I did it myself cause 1k for Toyota to replace with reman denso with 1yr warranty wasn’t for me. Put brand new autozone gold starter in cause reman is a hit or miss especially since the starter is very hard to get to. I hope this helps others. If starter is needing replacement order intake gaskets as well and new coolant o ring for bypass in the valley. Use a lot of dish soap on o ring so it doesn’t rip. Ask me how I know lol. Hope this helps community. My vehicle is an 05 4Runner limited v8 also

    I just found your channel and am enjoying it. I bought my ‘03 back in 2013 with 195k on it. I’ve had it for nearly 10 years and it has done well for my family, but recently discovered that I’ve got some frame rust issues. Nothing super serious as far as drivability but has deteriorated enough at the parking brake cable mount that my parking brake doesn’t really work anymore. I also have a head gasket leak, which only seems to be leaking externally and just seeping coolant down the block. I’m also about 20k from needing a T-belt and WP. I’ve been wanting to get another pickup, so have been thinking about letting it go, but watching your vids kind of makes me want to fix the Sequoia and keep it going.

    Don't worry about it breaking down everything that is mechanical or machinery will break down at some point. I just had my 05 limited Built. Total chaos two and a half inch long trave flared fingers in the front 4,88 gears Front and rear electronic lockers. king shocks Method wheels nitto ridge grapplers thirty five inch Coastal offer road high clearance bumpers with. Warn winch Coastal offer road rock sliders. Metal Tech rear control arms. KC flex lights And switch pro. And a whole lot more. I spent $43,000 The only thing around with sequoias is Toyota put cheap ass suspension on them. Other than that they have the motor and everything else. That's why they were so cheap because they had crappy suspension. That's why I built mine now it's nicer than a Toyota Tacoma or 4 runner. It will outperform them. My friend has a 2017 Tacoma And he had to put his and four wheel drive and still struggled I followed him and 2 will drive and drove right through everything like it was nothing. High clearance and thirty five inch tires Really Make a huge difference so does that long travel get? I don't need to use my 4x4 often now. What's gold on the Sequoia Is that 4.7 I force. Google the million mile motor and the 4.7 I force will pop up. So don't feel bad. You got an awesome vehicle for a great price?

    I just took my sequoia with 195k on a 1200 mile trip and it did great! One time my heart sank was when my truck wouldn’t start when I turned the key. I'd agree, it doesn't matter how reliable a vehicle is, there will eventually be a problem of some sort. I've had two tundras since new, and my current on has 300,000 miles and is still hop in it and take it coast to coast. In 300,000 miles I've had to replace an alternator, a fuel pump, and an ac compressor, I can't complain about that.

    What you are describing are the exact symptoms mine has when the battery connections become corroded and stop making a solid connection. It's deceiving because I'm used to cars with even lots of nasty corrosion on the terminals starting fine, but the Sequoia seems particularly sensitive to this. What you want to do is take the terminals apart and not only clean where they touch the terminals on the battery, but actually take the two bolts out of the positive connection itself and clean where the connection meets the wiring. That's where the corrosion is that prevents it from starting. First time this happened I hit them with the terminal brush and put it back together, it was good for a while but started acting up again. Second time I disassembled all of it and cleaned the pieces on the bench grinder, including the threads on the bolts. Perfect ever since.

  • @TheFraziers

    I actually did this same procedure when I changed the alternator. It’s possible that might have been the real issue going on.

    @@TheFraziers I would be willing to bet that was it. I had this happen a couple times where sometimes a jump would help, other times it wouldn't. But it puzzled me at first because the battery was either all there, or totally didn't want to make an effort to crank. No slow crank, like you would expect from a low voltage situation. Likely that just fooling around with the terminals while jumping is what actually got yours started when you were stranded.

  • @HAXUSOfficial
    @HAXUSOfficial2 жыл бұрын

    I actually had the same issue. With my v8 4runner. I went to the store and it wouldn’t start when I went to leave. I got super worried also because I never saw any bad signs. Someone tried to jump me with zero luck. I almost called a tow truck but decided “I might as well try a battery, I’ll have to do it eventually anyway.” I was so happy I did because it started no issues. I took it to the autoparts also to get everything tested and they told me the same thing about the starter solenoid or whatever they told you. But while they were testing it, the voltage was very steady so I decided not to trust them and just move on with my day because I trusted the “battery” light on the dash that NEVER came on. Anyway, that was 6 months ago or so. No issues since lol.

    I can't believe I clicked on this clickbait. If you knew how to use a multimeter you wouldn't have gone to the autoparts store. There is a strong probability that your issue will persist even after this new alternator that surely was NOT the culprit. 12 yr owner of a Tacoma and I went through this exact scenario for years until I put my stubborn ego aside and learned how to use multimeter and learned principles of electric wiring. Your starter signal wire most likely was not receiving the 12v that it needs from the starter relay. I suspect intermittent open in the circuit. These are educated guesses but not a certainty. I would investigate further and not rely on an American CORPORATE auto parts store for assurance. Furthermore, to bring your ego back down to Earth. You have 4.7 thousand subscribers. Obviously if I cared more than I already do I could look up views for your videos but there were obviously more views than subscribers but regardless in a country of 400 million people you had an effect on the secondary market of the Sequoia???????? God sent me here to take you down a notch.

    I did mention in the video that I did in fact use a multimeter to confirm what I was told that the auto parts store. I’m not a certified mechanic, but I do know how do a basic check with a multimeter. Also, I think you misunderstood my point about my videos shifting the market. I am not stupid enough to think that our tiny little channel had anything to do with the market shift. I credit the increased prices of used vehicles to Covid and also having a really pathetic administration in office that is screwing up inflation across all goods in the country. I’m just relaying the accusations some people have made. Our original video about the sequoia did reach over 100k views, which really isn’t that many, but to some people, that’s enough for them to believe that you tubers have a huge effect on it. Sorry you didn’t find any enjoyment in our content. It’s not for everyone I guess. I also find it it funny that you’re mocking our subscriber count. Last I checked, 4,800 is a much bigger number than 76.
