    Look how nicely Odiggy progressed after 2 seasons. Mazi is still a youngster, but over 9 games there has been a lot of improvement. He is starting to play like he feels he belongs. Big transition from college for DL and OL kids

    Mazi is clearly improving. He used to be the absolute last guy on the line to move after the snap. Now he's just usually the last guy to move. Hopefully he'll get up to average speed to go with his excellent strength.

    Love the O.L. D.L. breakdowns. Mazi was more obvious this game and that is perfect timing. We can really use him in the rotation more. He is getting quicker off the ball the most obvious part of his game from college tape was late off the snap the leverage power he has all that just needed quicker first step quicker off the snap. I can't wait to see him 5 or 6 games from now.

    He keeps getting off the ball quicker he will beat them to the spot or shed faster. Strength and leverage are natural to him thats obvious. More reps more rips for him and making TFL and quick QB pressure right up the middle. And Parsons right behind him. I'd take that every game

    Lets keep it real. The New York Giants are playing with a Juco offensive line, not even SEC level play. Your own grandmother can look like Lawrence Taylor against that offensive line: stroller, oxygen tank, and arthritis included. The only statistic you need to know for Mazi Smith is the percentage of defensive snaps which hovers between 20-25%. DQ & Aden Durde’s paychecks depend on Mazi Smith’s performance, not the so called scouts like Bryan Broadus et al. If DQ & Durde dont trust Mazi Smith you shouldnt either. Your paycheck isnt riding on his performance, their paychecks are. So far Mazi Smith is a bust, and unless massive change takes place he WILL be a bust. Mazi Smith is epically bad.

    On that play where you weren't sure what Clark was doing, he was reading the QB. His primary read was probably the QB and then the running back.

    Cowboys have done some great drafting on the defense and then even better coaching to get those players ready and contributing. Smith is clearly ahead of schedule for a very difficult position. If he keeps progressing at this rate for the next couple of years, he'll be a pro bowler.

    Not NTs drafted in the 1st round. I guarantee you the Cowboys wouldnt draft him in the 1st round if they thought it would take him 3 years to develop. Maybe if he was a 3rd rounder like Osa, but not in the 1st round. 1st rounders are EXPECTED to start except perhaps qbs like Jordan Love. 3rd rounders are expected and allowed a couple years to develop. I see a bust.

    I think a good deal of Cowboys' fans expect way too much, way too soon. Even thought Mazi is a 1st round draft pick, he is expected to play at an elite level after just a handful of games? That's just nuts. Mazi has to share time with some pretty darn good DTs as well. Let's see how Mazi progresses and improves. Give the guy a fair time to prove himself.

  • @ETRH6
    @ETRH67 ай бұрын

    DTs especially more run defender types take a season or two to really find there groove and adjust. Watching him play you can tell he’s got all the athleticism, strength, agility needed to be an elite run defender but needs time and reps. His biggest issue is reading the snap and getting off ball. He has a good get off it’s just delayed at times. After a full season learning I would expect him to come up and do great next year.

Aside from the overshown.pick i was starting to think this draft was a complete bust.. still bummed about reaching for Schoomaker when O'cyrus Terence was on the board. And we passed on my pet cat puka nacua. Will McClay is a bit overrated.

    Think Mazi getting too much hate early. People don't understand the jump from college to pro line play. dudes are just as strong and athletic as him now, and they have little tricks and techniques. The fact that he is contributing and altering plays is big time. looked like the o-line was aware of where he was, and he did a good job on the stunts, occupying both blockers to free up the other guy. he is coming along very nicely.

Now it might of been planned but that second play he is so slow getting out of his stance it actually somehow helps him. Now maybr it was planned but just watch how fast everyone else is up & out & then watch Mazi. Lastly again if like him to get off his block better. Don't get me wrong he looks better but I'm hoping next head we see another step forward. Those calling him a bust are silly. Let the kid hone his craft.

    Rashaan Evans I saw was playing some yesterday. He is pretty good against the run not very good with the pass but I noticed him in quite a bit early in the game and I know Barkley got 0 yards on his first 7 runs. Really pretty much all his yards came on that one drive in the 3rd. Would like to see maybe more of him paired with Bell at least for a series or 2. When Evans was in it seems like he was in, in place of Bell.

    In my opinion Mazi Smith will be a bust. I hope he proves me wrong. One of the things I have noticed about him is that he is often VERY late off the ball. We are in week 9 of the NFL Season so we are out of excuses in the “kicking off the rust” department. I dont know this for fact, but in my opinion his lateness off the ball may be due to a substance abuse problem or alcoholism. Otherwise I cannot explain why a 22 year old would have the reflexes of a 60 year old. Someone his age, ESPECIALLY PLAYING NOSE TACKLE WHERE THE BALL IS LITERALLY RIGHT IN FRONT OF YOU should not be off the snap that late. I know for a fact I can get off the snap quicker and you can too. Also, if you compare Mazi Smith today with his college tape at Michigan, he is unrecognizable. The Mazi Smith at Michigan played low to the ground with good technique. This guy is playing so poorly that he is only getting 20% of the defensive snaps. Considering the fact that he is a 1st round draft pick tells you that Durde & DQ dont trust him. So forget all these so-called “scouts” who say that Mazi Smith is “improving and making good progress”. The only opinionS that matters is Durden & DQ. Their jobs are on the line, not Bryan Broaddus, et al. Unless Mazi enters a rehab/detox program quickly, he will be a bust. Period.
