It was hip that you played phrases that match Kirk Franklin's ad lib vocals. In the parts where it didn't match, it was in the same rhythmic ballpark. Coming from a Pentecostal background, this is a beautiful take on the music from someone outside the culture but connecting to it through Jazz. Much respect!!

Wow. Fantastic breakdown. That's enough material for many hours of in depth study. Beyond the chords and rhythm, I was struck by the feeling that this was a fusion of gospel and funk. Certainly the right hand alone has a very gospel sound and feel, but the left hand and the bassline bring the funk, and they play off each other brilliantly. The way they land together on those "home" notes is so sweet. The bridge sounds very characteristic of classic Stevie Wonder harmony to me, in my limited understanding, but I know that's a whole world right there, and he was just one of the bright lights in that zone. Thanks!
