Arcane, Castlevania and Edgerunners now are the undisputed BAR of what an adaptation of a video game should look like, sound like and be written like, these shows have annihilate anything done, be film or show, Edgerunners is my favorite show this year and as how I see the year going to end I don't think anything will come close even to beat it, and this is the same year amazing shows like Spy x Family, My Dress Up Darling, Chainsaw Man and many other excellent shows have premiere. This show is for me, Trigger Masterpiece.

I'm sad that nobody ever mentions Dota 2: Dragon's Blood (3 seasons so far) as a good example of a game adaptation, animated by Studio Mir and splendidly voice acted, in my opinion it blows Castlevania out of the water.

Getting out of the studio's way and letting them work is so understated. I'm currently animating on a show where production keeps rewriting the goddamn episodes WHILE WE'RE IN THE MIDDLE OF ANIMATING SAID EPISODE and it's a nightmare. Most changes don't even improve the show, they just... change it. Get your pre-production done first and then leave us alone goddamn it.

Game still had a good reputation, it was in the top 10 most sold games on Steam for a couple of times a year after release and before the animation. The game itself has a world with great characters and story, the only problem with the game was the bugs not the ideas for the game itself.

I'd say Cyberpunk is Trigger's best work, hands down. While they've always had stellar animation, the stories have always been fairly lackluster or fell flat at key moments. LWA (especially the OVA) is definitely the closest in second though.

Sounds like for Edgerunners, Trigger finally felt it was time to try the Gurren Lagann trick again, and jump-start rookies. During Gurren Lagann, they gave character stuff to mecha guys and vice versa, and central stuff to newbies, leaving the experienced people to do the other stuff, fostering an entire generation of animators who became Trigger, and now those former rookies are the seasoned veterans, they’re the experts now, so its time to let the rookies take charge once again

Your take on P5 the Animation is correct. That is honestly why I like the Daybreakers OVA a lot more than the animated series. Daybreakers follows the same principle as Edgerunners. It takes one side-quest and evolves it to something bigger, with original character designs. The cast & crew of P5 are barely even in the OVA (and weirdly enough that makes it better).

Whew just watching a video about the making of a show - get that song playing at the end, feels hit hard. Trigger is GOAT, fite me. This show worked because Trigger knows what they've got as far as staffing. they have excellent partnerships as well. IG is a name, they outsource heavily, they use contractors and don't raise up their own teams - KyoAni and Trigger stand apart in their nurturing and growth. If you want a story that hits as hard as the action, Trigger is just about the only option.

I think the point yo mentioned about story following the game is not really a game adaptation thing but more a symptom of a wider issue in the stories of anime adapattions in general which is that they try to compress the stories way too much, there've been cases of Light Novel adaptations cramming 4 to 5 books into merely 12 episodes with exceptional cases like 86 only adapting 1 volume in that amount of episodes standing out for it's quality for the simple fact the story gets some room to breathe, I think more faithful adaptations would greatly benefit from not trying to cram an 60 hour into a 4 hour anime and consider that it doesn't have to end at the game's end, because a partial adaptation that is executed in a way that the part of the story being adapted can shine will be better than a completed one that loses a lot of what made people like the source material.

@@MaxIronsThird Stop the hate cap bruh... 2th CB, Pun Pun, Vagabond, Real don't even have anime yet, in which I also want it. GiTS anime best ones are the older ones, while the recent ones are flat average. Meanwhile, modern Berserk anime are an abomination that should be purged from existence (the classic & movies are 7/10 at best). This is coming from hardcore Berserk fan. As far as Cyberpunk genre fan POV goes, Cyberpunk Edgerunners is indeed the best one in recent years for at least almost a decade.

@@crozraven oops, got caught up thinking about actual great things, didn't realise i started not making any distinction between Manga and Anime. have you heard of Psycho-Pass? S1 was amazing, other seasons were shit though. Also why does shit need to be new to matter?

In terms of animation quality, story and characters, yes. Undoubtedly. They had many more resources and almost double the run time. However, in terms of inventive animation and pacing, Edgerunners is better IMHO.
