Ιt pretty much worked the way they face every weird scenario in the series. Walter becomes obsessive over something, he drags pinkman all along, pinkman doesnt like it so he does something stupid, than they both pay the price of pinkmans stupidity. In my mind, flies gather around dead bodies and feces. Considering that walter was stuck with the fly, pretty much show that he became a rotten man due to his actions. To me, his worst act was letting Jane die. Not so much due to killing, but mostly because he betrayed Pinkman. It was everything for pinkman, and he took it away. In some sense also show he is the real shit and who is not. Jessie got stuck with the fly cause of Walter. Every bad action pinkman did, was because of walter. I don't want to tell that Jessie is a nice guy, but he was heavily manipulated by him. At the end though.... pinkman kills the fly! A good foreshadowing for the ending of the series... Pinkman was redempted in some sense at the end. Walter on the other hand....stayed with the f** fly.

I think me and a bunch of others speculate, since jesse was secretly stealing the excess product from gus while they were weighing it, and walter knew it was him, but couldn't address it due to bugs and cameras, so he spends the whole episode trying to convey to jesse "any contaminant no matter the size will inevitably be dealt with, because its a clean operation" aka walt is trying to tell him "it doesn't matter if you're only taking a little, gus runs a tight operation, and will go to extreme lengths to kill you"

I think the Fly would have EASILY been one of the very best episodes for so many reasons, but it drags out way too long to make its point. Should have been 25-30 minutes at most and it seriously would have been in top 10 for me. The episode where Walt arguably transitions the hardest into a sociopath, having to let go and come to terms with all the suffering he had indirectly caused as he finally acknowledged it all and that it was buzzing at him...like a fly.

Shows why IMDB rankings are pretty meaningless. A bunch of people didn’t really ‘get’ or appreciate Fly and so it gets the lowest score due to those people. If you’re not one of them then that score is meaningless and the same applies to the score for every episode.

Remember: Episode ratings and movie ratings are very different so apples are not being compared to apples here. That is why El Camino seems to have such a low rating

TV shows (and episodes) are always rated much higher than movies. 7.5 is considered mid for a TV show whereas for a film it’s a damn good rating (as long as it’s not Indian, but that’s a totally different story).

As well as were made to dislike Howard but once he gets shot we have conflicted emotions and can understand exactly how jimmy and especially Kim feels. It also feels like the finale of BCS with the next episode dealing with the aftermath and ending into the transition into Saul as well as the rest of the series being with Gene.

There’s a lot of pretty good shows that’s highest rated episode is an 8.5 or 8.6. Yet some of the worst rated episodes of this universe is just that. Just goes to show how perfectly crafted this whole universe is.

I could see why someone would prefer Face-Off to Ozymandias. It is much more entertaining, has a fantastic character sendoff and is a great set up for the final season. Either way you see it. Both episodes are incredible hours of television.

Fly shpuld be further up, but that was a cool. Also faceoff is top 4 but not #1 imo

Honestly, I'd say Fly belongs in like top ten episodes, it is a masterclass of cinematography, easily has the best cinematography in Breaking Bad, and the episode explores the dynamic between Walt and Jesse really well, I'd compare it to 4 Days Out honestly, it's like 4 Days Out, but just a bit worse, but 4 Days Out is still a lot of people's favourite episodes, including me

3:45 BCS episode "Magic Man" and BB episode "And the Bag's in the River" have the same description.
