Yeah. I’m a gymnast, but also a professional circus artists and street performer, and lemme tell you, breakdancers are on another level. I grew up in a padded room, these kids grew up on concrete MAYBE with a piece of cardboard, but DEFINITELY with a lot of road rash. Haha. I do gotta say though, the ballet dancer in me appreciates that gymnasts automatically point their toes. That’s one thing we’ve got on break dancers. 😂 But seriously, everyone that does either has thrill issues and is made out of some next level sh*t. 😸💖🤸‍♂️

Pointing is possible but not a technique consideration as oftentimes the flexed foot adds one more shape dynamic to work with for more tut or foot worked based dancers. But i havent been as involved in the scene for a few years to know if it's changed. If I do recall correctly... Airflares are one where it started on the breaking side and moved to gymnastics as opposed to a lot of other moves.

"Alyssa Blair" I have nothing on these athletic people but in the past I trained hard to run a marathon under 4 hours and not only did that require training in running but doing things like stretching and other exercises. I know a lot of people would laugh at that since it is nothing significant as far as athletic ability , but it takes discipline and dedication to just get up and work out and try to improve, and often work out when you are not feeling well and also find time to live the rest of your life. It physically hurts , it is tiring and the routines do get dull and dreadful. So I can imagine how training to do such high level stunts must be really difficult. But yes it does feel good to be able to run miles without getting winded when a lot of people cannot do it at all. But also after a certain amount of years your body just cannot take it any more.

@@achimaufachse5925 Thanks for letting us know. Some people would say that if you start feeling pain it is because you did not train the right way. But using your body in such abnormal ways just takes its toll. Also some people are prone to injuries earlier than others. I developed arthritis and had to have joint replacement. The orthopedic doctor told me arthritis is genetic and it was nothing I did regarding exercising as some people do high impact exercise and never get joint problems while others take it easier and do develop joint problems Yes, I hate to curse but there are those of us who are F---ed.

I’m not a gymnast or break dancer. The balance, flexibility and strength required of a world class gymnast boggle my mind. An argument could be made that gymnasts are the best athletes in the world. But one thing that has impressed me about break dancers is that they wear shoes. These moves are hard enough without adding weight to your feet. Their form won’t get them a perfect score from a gymnastics judge, but break dancers are strong as sh*t beasts. In shoes.

he already had flare so a single round will be a litter easy for him. Multiple airflares is where it gets hard, I had flare and can do a single airflare to flare but its been 3 years and I can still barely do 3 continous airflares

I think some of it is physics. It seems like you were trying to muscle all the way through the moves, but the breakdancers use the momentum from the previous moves to get the correct spin and speed. But since I'm neither a gymnast nor a breakdancer, I could be totally wrong!

"Thomas Flare?" That name sticks in my head. I've been around long enough to remember when the sports broadcasters made a big deal about it on the pommel horse, then went crazy about someone able to do it later on a floor routine. Now, it seems like you are all expected to pull it off. The advancements in the sport never fail to amaze me. It's why I enjoy your shorts so much. You and your teammates appear to effortlessly string together numerous moves which I can remember being premiered in competitions as a big step forward as a marquee move at that event.

I think top gymnasts are crazier than breakdancers. But breakdancers as a whole are crazier because judging is more subjective and less standardized and this results in insane variety of movements and styles.

eh, it depends, top powermove breakers are insane. See how he struggle to do 1 airflare? there are bboys who can do 6 airflares with just 1 hand, or do airflares and land on their pointed elbows. When it comes to rings and stuff, yeah, gymnast are crazy, but if you compare the ground stuff? the shit top bboys do are black magic

Not true. That's like saying because I break dance Im going to be good at Parkour. Trust me break dancing and parkour aint got sheit to do with sheit. A gymnast spinning handstand is not related to a 2000 where you hit 6 spins with a wristband. Not related at all.

  • @mrweasel

Not really true though. The power aspect of breaking has innovated far, far beyond what is typical in gynmastics. It is a good basis for power, definitely. But there are differences in the technique. Better to practice gymnastics if you want to master gymnastics, and breaking if you want to master that.

Have some respect for breaking. You're not gonna master headspins and elbow flares doing iron cross. Ian didnt do those moves the same way the people in the video did. He has an exceptionally good base to start from but he still needs lots of practice like anybody else.
