Break-testing an improved composite lever arm

Third break test of a lever arm for #hortenmicrolight's elevon mixer. The lever without bearings weights only 9.5 g (1/3 oz).

    I expected it to crack on the long (left) side of the lever where the rod was connected. Strong material! Love carbon fiber!

    It's a sandwich with an Airex® core (5mm), pultruded graphite rods as caps (8×0.6 mm) and cnc machined carbon rings for the bearings (quasi-isotropic 5 mm full carbon). Everything covered with one 160 g/m² carbon layer. It gets as light weight as possible …

    @@andreschavarria1450 Interesting the used of rod.. I did bracket with 2ply 200g carb and 3fiberglass center.

    @@jfairplane8520 I use a classical composite spar layout: caps for bending stress, covered core as a shearweb (±45° fibers). If you're interested in more information, I've been shooting a video on how to make them. It should be ready by next week …
