@@marlieeasley830 yes because there is very little content to what he says, he talks slowly and takes long pauses. The overactive mind will react to this in two ways. Either, and much more common, it will become restless or it will yield and become grounded in the present moment, which is basically the only true purpose of Eckharts teachings. The mind craves constant stimulation and that is what makes you feel impatient. That is a perfectly normal reaction and is why formal meditation can seem so difficult. When I got my new puppy I set my alarm to go off every hour to take her out for a pee. I do the same thing using Ram Dass' mantra "I am loving awareness"...I stop my day, say every half hour, and just say that mantra about 5 times while observing life around me. with regards to what Eckhart was saying about awareness of a desire diminshing over time, I find that awareness alone isn't enough, that I need to have compassion, or self compassion for that part of me with the unmet need. Awareness alone, over time leads me to feeling very abandoned. Self-companioning is the anti-dote. Also, i don't know if she uses the same language, but, Russell, you should have Sarah Peyton on your program-- she's a neuroscience educator and teaches how to heal our brains by greeting our bodies with resonance (which is her word for what i call self-compassion).

Ironically , when i had an accident and ended up on disability - i had enough money for food and rent for the first time, i even had extra - and that's when it happened - i could get a present to feel better. I have this fear of owning things and fear of losing them - when i'm 'in my skin' all the crap around the house drives me crazy. Big changes. After returning home I fell into a deep sleep, a horrible depression to be awakened once more but not only to my own faults but to the actual state of the world. Agree, it’s about NOT wanting, and that requires a rational, something better. By abstaining you take a small bight into the alternative (peace) without which you are merely wanting something else. A little bit of peace this time gives you an appetite for more next time! Eventually realise that the peace gained from a knawing want is better than the thing you wanted! It satisfies the want without yielding to it. Then you have over come it!

Russel, I feel you when seeing you talking, my mind is chattering a lot and fast as well and so is my unconscious way of movement. It really helped me to be aware of consciously speaking more slowly or when like (as eckhart mentioned) walking to the fridge or some place that pops up in my mind, I try to go extra slowly. For example, try to go to your fridge in slow motion or when typing messages on your mobile, do it as if you were a sloth 😂 This way I reprogrammed my unneccesary fast mind to be more slowly when being unconscious, so I can more easily become aware and conscious again in my all day life :) Sense your feet when walking/ finger tips when typing. Simple practices like this really calmed my mind doing this continously and I feel more healthy ever since (they were kinda like the gate to treat stress related diseases like asthma and stuff) :)

Unfortunately we live in a world where if you just try to be quiet and live your life easily you will get run over, for instance by those in Washington DC on the leftwing for us here in the states and it's not peaceful to deal with, we constantly have to watch our backs and watch what's going on. But when I want to be calm and shut down that crap to have fun again, it's quiet reflection time. And the occasional piece of chocolate cake.
