Break, Break, Break BY ALFRED, LORD TENNYSON
Break, break, break,
On thy cold gray stones, O Sea!
And I would that my tongue could utter
The thoughts that arise in me.
O, well for the fisherman's boy,
That he shouts with his sister at play!
O, well for the sailor lad,
That he sings in his boat on the bay!
And the stately ships go on
To their haven under the hill;
But O for the touch of a vanish'd hand,
And the sound of a voice that is still!
Break, break, break
At the foot of thy crags, O Sea!
But the tender grace of a day that is dead
Will never come back to me.

Excellent poem, he knows to paint the sound of the waves hitting the stony shore. He knows to paint the light and the atmosphere with words. Few lines to enormous effect. And you, young poet, know exactly how to read it. With restraint, with melancholy in the voice, the rhythm of the waves in your intonation, you let the poem speak, you honour it perfectly.

Well said!
To chant it in an old fashioned way, monotonously but strongly accentuating the rhythm, what a pleasure. He gets it: the awe the sea fills us with when on the shore watching out, the respect to the boys, soon men to spend their lives on her.
Beautiful thank you so much
Beautiful poem that you 🙏
