Break Break Break by Alfred, Lord Tennyson - set to music

Музыка

Alfred, Lord Tennyson's poem "Break Break Break" set to music by Bettina & Matthias Wenthe (Cowhouse Project), for studio version see here: • Break, Break, Break
Filmed at Driftwood House overlooking Camusdarach Beach with the Isles of Rum and Eigg in the background, guitar chords see at the bottom.
Break, break, break,
On thy cold grey stones, O Sea!
And I would that my tongue could utter
The thoughts that arise in me.
O well for the fisherman's boy,
That he shouts with his sister at play!
O well for the sailor lad,
That he sings in his boat on the bay!
Break, break, break,
At the foot of thy crags, O Sea!
But the tender grace of a day that is dead,
Will never come back to me.
And the stately ships go on
To their haven under the hill;
But O for the touch of a vanish'd hand,
And the sound of a voice that is still!
Break, break, break,
At the foot of thy crags, O Sea!
But the tender grace of a day that is dead,
Will never come back to me.

Fantastic! In your music, you show that as the words form the waves that crest & break, the bass & the chords descend with them from the crags and into the rocks, returning & blending into the nature that formed them. You captured his poem!

I loved this set to music. My only thought is that I don't believe Break Break Break was meant to be a happy poem; I see in it a sadness like a fishwife waiting at the bank on the beach waiting for her husband that never shows. But this song, and the way in which it was sung. Feels more, happy, more hopeful that I hear when I listen or read the poem.
