    I found myself also shying away from inferno, but after gearing the Lok-1 with electro chemical rounds and bonus damage to burning/electrified enemies it's my favorite combo for engi thus far

    I'd like to echo this since I'm one of those weirdoes who use seeker rounds on Lok1 for guaranteed damage, I sort of use Inferno to also offset the lack of damage seeker rounds have in comparison for Lok1, but being able to do that 40% bonus damage on oppressors when I'm looking them in the eye when I'm solo salvage/black box is a huge boon for my gameplay.

    I think the reason people take the mag size up is because it's basically a +3 ammo up

    I think you missed one fact about the inferno overclock is that it actually burns your target for an extended period of time keeping the fire effect on the target for a longer period of time.

    I've been running inferno for a while now and its amazing. Not only that, but it easily roasts priority targets so a gunner with volatile bullets can delete it, which is DRG's current meta on haz 6x2 and haz 7

    Spinning death is mostly useful for creating a breathing space for yourself. It doesn't harm you so it's a good place to stand while you recover shields, reload, or revive a teammate.

    An argument for magazine size in t1 is that it also increases your total ammo pool and usually lets you squeeze more shots per resupply, at the cost of not being nearly as good at dealing with distant targets. Sadly, given BC ammo values (with +ammo mod), it's usually not as good (21 gives you back 11 shots while 24 with increased mangazine gives you back 12). However, it's worth considering on Light-Weight Cases builds since the rounding helps you squeeze two more shots per resupply (24 giving you 12 back vs 27 giving you 14 back). Great video as always. Rock and stone!

    Super late comment - but I wish this mentioned in the video because you can do this with stronger plasma current. I feel like it’s a pretty underrated OC because it allows you to take mag size AND ammo, giving you the same ammo count as if you use LWC with proj lifetime (18+6 instead of 21+3), while also giving you 33% more length (20m instead of 15m) and more damage to boot. It’s that perfect mix between maxing out ammo and sacrificing projectile lifetime and damage, instead now you’re getting a little of both.

    i didnt like spinning death when i first tried it, but then after a little while i came back to it and i love it. i havent really used anything else since. taking it with stun and plasma trail it, it does work on praetorians. its also obviously amazing for chokepoints. the ultimate bunker build is spinning death with stun and plasma trail on top of prox mines. toss those out and nothing can really get in. also has the great utility of being a pseudo shield. fire it out and just stand in the middle of it. anything around u trying to attack gets killed or stunned. especially great for swarmers. i never actually touched inferno and just realized it could be good for industrial sabotage. spinning death is decent for it. platform a bridge and shoot one out to hit all the caretakers nodes

    Honestly, spin control isn't that great for mactera... They're too mobile. I like using it to align it to the trail of bugs on a wall, to smash them early without having to wait for them to get to level ground. Triple line makes this basically a fly swatter you can use to smack trains if glyphids early in their conga line toward you.

    Rts triple line with armor break is one of my favorite anti-praetorian combos, a single shot will leave it naked and near death setting up incredibly easy kills for your teammates. It also trivializes spitballers as you can reliably one shot them from just under max range before they get a single shot off

    Awesome! Very thorough comparisons! Even with High Voltage Crossover I would probably still take stun over armor break. The stun is really valuable for interrupting praetorian attacks in particular, whereas electric just slows the target down. I don't often find the armor break that useful, although I'm usually playing with a full group and not solo. Perhaps you find the armor break more useful when solo and you have to finish things off with executioner? Interested in hearing your thoughts on this. Another thing to consider with inferno is the type of damage. It converts a lot of the damage to fire damage which means it does significantly more damage to mactera (really good for brundles, goo bombers, and grabbers) as well as spitball infectors (can often one shot them depending on the angle and difficulty). It also shreds korloks should you happen to stumble across one. The big downside of fire damage is dreadnoughts highly resist it.

    The stun on HVC as you describe it is something I had not overly considered I must admit. Definitely something to ponder. I normally play 4 players and I feel that armour break is of more benefit to the team. A group of guards and you strip that heavy armour on the legs whilst others are shooting into the crowd was always my thought process. Not so much the Lok-1 requiring it but it can help against preatorians. When I put the video together I realised actually how often on larger targets is the armour break really going to help. Like the twins, yes an early shot can strip all that armour and depending on the teams loadouts that can have a different impact. But I don't think enough to warrant it over how good inferno is against hordes. That's my current thinking until I get a good 20+ games with inferno.

    I run a 11213 cutter with return to sender (upgrades of note: extra ammo, armor breaking, triple split) with my executioner build, I just really appreciate the ability that it gives me to both deal massive damage to praetorians, but also the damage I can do to swarms when kiting and using lures. I don't think I've tried plasma trail, and I might after watching this video, but honestly the extra tolerance that triple split provides makes using the cutter much easier, especially when working with non-flat areas. I've also never really missed the range I lose, because that's covered by either my primary or whoever I'm playing with.

    One thing to consider is that three second stun once you start using Inferno more often- Inferno and Plasma Trail with Stun cant be underestimated. If you are using Executioner it's a super easy weak point line up for Praetorians and for other Overclocks such as Seeker, the Stun gives you time to lock on and mop up For sure you dont want to be running it on bosses. Not only are they resistant, you'll really be annoying Cryo Drillers and Scouts with Cryo OC Zhukovs, just take the extra Ammo and Triple Beams as you found out in the video. I was lucky and the Ammo OC was my first Breach Cutter OC way back when so that was the gold standard from the get go for me, which also really helped me make the semi permanent switch from the Deepcore as well. Some other fun things- since it switches the beam to have fire damage- you can ignite All the Things, including Praetorian clouds, Driller Sludge, cobwebs (lol), and I find myself missing the added versatility when I dont have it. If you run Resupplier skill, extra magazine size outweighs beam duration by quite a bit in my experience, as you actually end up getting more Ammo per slice of the Pod. I don't really recall being in a situation where I felt like I was missing range on the Breach Cutter. If you really need to snipe then you can manually aim the LOKI in a pinch, otherwise just get closer honestly. Ive been reexamining Inferno OC lately and double checking that it is indeed the best and this video really helped me reconfirm that it is. Which always makes it extra funny when I hear people complain that it's weak. The first question to ask is- yes, but have you actually tried it? Because they obviously haven't lol. This is a shining example of why one should never assume how something works based on theoretical numbers. Sometimes you really do need to go out in the field and get the actual numbers so thank you for doing that! It's great to see my theories about Ammo and Damage confirmed with numbers.

    Yeah that stun I found amazingly helpful on my Haz 7 runs with it. Plasma trail is my go to and as you say combined it is very powerful. Bosses does seem to be a weak point. Will see how bad with more playtime. But I run Executioner Lok-1 so should handle the shortfall. I should put a disclaimer at the start of my videos that I go for a general EDD build so the build needs to take on everything. I never bother changing a build based on the type of run unless it Haz 6 or 7. One of the reasons I wanted to do videos like this was to help myself decide but also found it hard to find a good video with questions I had and data to answer them! Hopefully you enjoyed the video. If your main priority is EDD and you need an all rounder then I can easily see the argument for sticking with High Voltage Crossover- I actually have all five Engineer slots filled with different builds. Mactera Plague, EDD, Standard, Elimination, and Swarmaggedon. My Mactera Plague and Standard Builds use Inferno but my EDD build Ive been using High Voltage Crossover lately. However if you are confident handling the bosses with your LOKI then for sure play around with Inferno! It's very underrated! (and I added a bit to my previous post)

    Question: Does the burn DOT from Inferno stack with itself or with other burn effects? ie. if you shoot the BC twice with inferno OC at the same target, are you actually doing 2x total damage or do you lose out on the DOT damage from the second shot because the target is already on fire from the first DOT? Similarly, what if you are playing with a driller and they are also setting things on fire. Seems like this is very important to know, otherwise it would be very anti synergistic to play with multiple dwarves using burn effects.

  • @GamingExistence

    @GamingExistence

    2 жыл бұрын

    No I don't think they stack. Fire will refresh the heat value making them burn longer but not increase the damage. Some status effects have better versions of themselves. Such HVC on the breach cutter doing more damage and lasting longer than the stubby electrical damage. The plasma trail and explosive goodbye does not look like it stacks either. As in pumping out 3 BC shots with PT won't stack 3x PT damage, I'm fairly sure! Wiki has lots of helpful info - deeprockgalactic.fandom.com/wiki/Status_Effects

  • @9600bauds
    @9600bauds Жыл бұрын

    Inferno is better than HVC in a vacuum, like for soloing haz7, but here's a couple reasons why I prefer HVC for pugging haz4/haz5 lobbies: It has negative synergy with anyone else running temperature builds, which is frustratingly common. Sure you just lit that praetorian on fire, but so did the driller, or the gunner, or the other engi with shard diffractor... and it can't be on fire twice, so... you two are kind of stepping on eachother's toes. Even worse if someone is running a cryo build. Electricity builds are very rare on the other hand, so your HVC is usually just doing its own thing. And also, slowing down enemies and stripping their armor has a lot of coop value. You're covering for your teammates who may not be aware that you were planning on just running away from the horde for the next eight seconds.

    I don't know why he put it down so low on the list. He admitted it's great for both swarms and single target at the same time. And that's without the additional benefits such as area denial. Anything that steps inside will die and will not get out. With the only real down side is you might miss? But that's so easy to work around. I can lock down a zone for a whole minute.

  • @sythrus

    I think triple split works best with an armour breaking build for it, more areas on the creature that you're hitting and breaking off chunks with. Granted, i do play near exclusively in multiplayer so that may factor into my bias, as its a great support tool in that situation since the trail will be less effective against the swarms of smaller enemies, and usually i can rely on my team to pick up the slack in terms of AOE. I still need to unlock all of the overclocks tho, since i only have like two or so (i play on and off)

    Another argument for using Inferno is that you can combine it with the LOK1 Smart Rifle or the Stubby with EM Refire Booster for maximum damage over time. Set the wave ablaze and electrify anything that survives! Also, is it worth it to take the beam width increase at Tier 2? I've never not had it equipped, assuming it's necessary for clearing waves out

  • @GamingExistence

    @GamingExistence

    Good points. I always found the wider beam caused more team damage and it's a massive hit in ammo. It does feel really nice though when it's wide on the horde, I just never found it better than additional ammo. Especially as the breach cutter is the engineer's emergency escape button. Zero ammo is a bad place to be with it! Just my opinion.

    The beam width is better against swarms while the ammo is better for versatility. If you take beam width youre restricted to pretty much only firing at big groups, the ammo lets you justify firing even at smaller groups or at lone pretorians for armor strip

    So this video didn't really answer my question. Should i take triple split line with Inferno just to make sure i hit the target properly and can set it on fire with just one shot??? Because in my own experience using plasma trail with inferno sometimes my shot don't fully hit a enemy due to bad positioning/weird angles which make so is not enough to set them on fire forcing me to shot again just to set them on fire which at the end make me waste more ammo.

  • @GamingExistence

    @GamingExistence

    Good question! I also find myself in the same situation sometimes with inferno. I guess it depends what primary you are using. With the Lok-1 Executioner I would stick with PT because of swarmers and suck up the odd occasion of firing twice to ignite. I guess with the stubby swarmers might not be such a big issue so if you really hard double tap to ignite you could take TSL. In my experience PT is better and it's what I run. But that's an opinion and TSL is not a bad option either.

    Great analysis, though I think Return to Sender (RTS) is actually a very good overclock. In your analysis, you mentioned that RTS reduced your total ammo capacity but didn't mention the additional damage you get with an extra pass of the laser wave with each shot. So even though you're down to 12 ammo with RTS, if you hit targets with both passes (say a praetorian), then you're essentially getting the value of 24 shots. This is more than the 21 you get from lightweight casing. Plus, RTS turns the explosive goodbye mod from being bad (premature detonation will often reduce your potential damage per shot), to something that's actually quite useful (allows you to detonate the returning wave before it friendly fires and get some extra damage with it).

    There is a scenario where I find the use of Wide Beam justified and thats Mactera Plague- you tend to save Ammo because of the way they often zig and zag before lining up their shots- so you almost always get more in one shot with wide beam and triple beam combined

    Wide beam gives more kills and more control. So it gives a little extra "ammo" and it gives some tempo. There is enough nitra to go around. If you place your shots well, wide beam is the way to go

    Even post nerf return to sender is considered the best overclock due to damage potential and it really doesn't take much to learn how to make the most use out of it. You're out of your mind.

    Interesting opinion 🙂 I dunno about your playgroup but I research by speaking with high level players who often focus on playing modded difficulties far beyond hazard 5. The opinion is inferno is the best, the additional horde clear and DPS on ignited enemies plus the spread is extremely powerful. I suggest you try inferno again or we will have to agree to disagree 😊 Thanks for the comment. Rock and stone!

    Inferno is bugged and almost have no direct damage reduction. 23122 inferno is meta, rest is inferior
