3:20 "...Historya natin..." I think he's not just pointing out the fact that he speaks Tagalog quite intimately. On the deeper side he's referring to our common history with the two Iberian empire namely Portugal and Spain. Indeed this should be a very interesting topic to explore to learn each other's culture.

I was in Brazil 2 months ago. Many Brazilians look like Filipinos. Those who look like Filipinos may have more Indigenous (indio) heritage in them or if they have documented mestizo (mestiço) heritage their recessessive indigenous trait manifests more than their European traits. They are a true melting pot-Indigenous, Portuguese/European and African racially and culturally. There has been miscegenation goong on there for centuries.

I know of an El Salvadorean guy who became a fluent speaker of Tagalog. His best friends were Filipinos and he worked with them 8 hrs. a day and hung out with them after work. About three years of being exposed to Tagalog and contextual references. Of course hearing Spanish and English words so often along with frequent Tagalog words and most of all practicing with them, without formal study of the language, he was a fluent speaker.

@@aljohnpolyglot Well, it wasn't in the Philippines, but in Canada. That is what made me shocked, as he was able to accomplish fluency in three years, just by being best friends with Filipinos and took it upon himself to be a Tagalog speaker. Despite not having the convenience of living abroad.

it is easy to learn languages if you're young, but as you get older it's getting harder.when i was younger, im trying to learn korean and japanese, but stopped learning them and i forgot all those iv learned😂now i can only speak 4 local languages, can understand 1 more, tho i cant speak it, and english and tagalog.

  • @aljohnpolyglot

Yeah it is really easy to learn when you are young. But the reason is not because you are young. It is because the available time you have to learn a language is limited when you reach adulthood. This is due to the fact that we have a lot of responsibilities by then. By the way, speaking that many languages are already cool in your case.
