We've had a "predictions game" at the village house, during summer holiday, with my cousins and my uncle. Everyone predicted before the match, that Brazil will be the winner. Only I predicted France will win. Everyone laughed at me. 😅 After the end, I was the one who laughed. 😂 My uncle was so impressed by my winning prediction that he bought me a brand new ⚽ the next day! One of the greatest games I have ever watched - in fact THE greatest. As a kid, I was mesmersied by what football could be like seeing this. Then I wanted France to win and I couldn't believe it. Thanks not only for uploading this - but for including the commentary from the legendary John Motson - just as I watched it back then.

I saw the match LIVE ! Still I was enthrilled myself this day. What a similarity ! Both Soctares and Platini failed to score in penalty shooting !! BOTH ARE GREAT PLAYERS .

My very first memory of a World Cup game. I was 5-6, watching the game at some friends' house. At the end when France won, it was madness, people screaming of joy. That game changed my life. It made me fall in love with the Beautiful Game. And this has been the most beautiful and purest match of football I have seen to date in my life! How I wish I can go back to that time in a wonderful, hot summer day in June of 1986...

I was doing my Engineering 2nd year and was not that inclined towards football...We used to travelling in train to the college during that journey my seniors were discussing so excitedly about the matches and particularly Argentina & Maradona ..I was silently watching them and admired their reactions with expertise analysis of every match...I can't forget those days...Then I too started watching football matches and became ardent fan of Argentina..

I was 6 and it's my really first memory of a complete football match on TV. My parents were ok because it was almost the end of school. Fantastic atmosphere and colours on TV, magical names ("Careca", "Socrates", "Branco"...), spectacular actions and shoots, and brilliant saves by Bats, my hero along with Platini. Even my mother who hated football came and watched the second half and extra time with us. I'll remember forever my father who shout and almost cried after Platini missing ("Oh non, mais c'est pas possible!!!"). And finally the victory... For this day, I was in love with football, and particularly with the World Cup.

@@shahrulamar5358 Yes I was aware of that, What will remain with me all my life is his greatness during the 1982 world Cup as he was sublime to say the least. What an amazing goal he scored against the USSR and the commentary I loved was from an English commentator, it was summed up perfectly as certain things are never forgotten even though I was 8 years old at the time. Then the beautiful goal against Italy with that same commentator just seemed to add that extra touch of magic to go with such an excellent footballer. RIP Dr. Socrates your magic lives on with what you had done.

Maradona was the best player of that World Cup, and this game France - Brazil would be considered the best game of the World Cup 1986. As a secondary notice, the referee was the Romanian, Ioan Igna. Coincidence or not, this game, still by February 2022, has been the last World Cup game with a Romanian referee(main or assistant). Despite this, in 1995, the Champions League final had Romanian refereeing brigade.

My favourite game ever - watching it as a 10 year old in Scotland, my friend and I decided to adopt France because they wore blue. Brazil perhaps were more dominant but one has to remember that France were playing in the Central American heat so were disadvantaged - think the game kicked off at around noon Mexico time. Great players on both teams, tremendous drama - glad I was there to witness it.

Glad to read your comment and that you have such fond memories about the WC which took place in my country, but just to clarify, MEXICO IS NOT IN CENTRAL AMERICA. Our culture, of course, is closer to South and Central America, but in geographical terms, Mexico is located in North America. Above the Parallel 16 North, North America starts (many people, mistakenly, believe that NA is only the USA and Canada). Just as a reference and to put it on perspective, 52% of our territory was blatantly and cowardly stolen by the USA in 1848, and if 1/3 of the current USA territory was formerly part of Mexico, then does not that make them "Central America" as well?

@@rustshoo5068 Heat? In Guadalajara? Dude, I am Mexican and I can tell you Guadalajara has a wonderful weather. Real HEAT the one that had to be faced in Monterrey (another venue of the World Cup), but Guadalajara has a very nice weather. And France, in their Mediterranean coast they also have very hot weather as well (plus humid).

France wasn’t playing in Central America because Mexico was and is still in North America. Look at a map.

I saw this when I was 16, and I'm still not over the disappointment.

I was less than 10 years old then so I could not see or say much.

La plus équipe de France de tous les temps avec son carré magique….. platini était blessé et giresse à cours de forme …il en a manqué si peu !

I was shocked to see the result. I never imagined that a great player like Socrates would miss the goal.

I went to this game and it was the best game of the tournament. There were military tanks in the parking lots and soldiers all over the place. The Brazilian fans were gracious , even in defeat.

I was 23 years old when I watched this. I was happy because I don't like Brazil and started to love Argentina and maradona due to the semi final match with England in 86 wc. That love for argentina is still there as I can't forget the dose of that match which was. Mesmerizing. It has never happened before that and will never happen again

What a player Maradona was and that 2nd goal against England was the finest world Cup goal I will ever see, it was unbelievable and then his 2nd goal against Belgium in the semi final was also unforgettable. The pass for Burrachaga's winner in the final was another bit of genius from the greatest of all time.
