Greatest performance by a single man against a full national team in World Cup history! I was 11 and watched the match in tv with my father!

I was at this game at the Azteca Stadium in Mexico City. I was a kid but I recall this being a great game and enjoying Maradona's play style. Rest in Peace!!! one of the best soccer players

Absolutely the highest performance ever by an individual footballer on the world stage. He almost made a hat-trick with 3 solo runs barely missing the mark on the third one. Truly fantastic!

Never seen anyone as utterly unplayable as Maradona was back then... practically every touch of the ball pure perfection, even those made with a hand. Messi is awesome and indeed more consistent, over longer period of time, but even he cannot touch the levels of magic Maradona was capable of. Plus one must also take into account the protection stars like Messi get from refs today, while Maradona was mercilessly hacked wherever he went.

2nd referee was a desaster for belgium it could be 0-2 in first half for belgium, but of course maradona is great.

This is the first world cup I can remember watching from the start to the finish,as a english man I can only say the best team won it.belgium done so well a great team, ceulemens was one of the most underated players ever to play the game,a wonderful gifted player,great team belgium,think they had a hard world cup,in there qualifying group they played 3 teams that were used to the heat,and then 2 epic games that went to extra time against ussr and Spain think they looked tired in this match,and of course they were up against Maradona.valdano had great world cup,great player

At 2:10 and 3:05, i did think that the linesman had made a mistake here. It was not an offside positions by the Belgium players. Belgium was robbed of possibility of 2 goals. That would likely changed the game scenario. But apart from that, Maradona was simply a majestic, gifted and brilliant player.

Indeed his touch is a touch of feather of that first goal. So accurate, w no time at all, like a Pistolero sooting. On that first goal Maradona makes a goood call to the ball but man I love the passing too, from the outside of the right foot. A feather touch for another feather touch. I am not sure who did that passing, maybe Burruchaga, bc he was on fire too. And Maradona was the fire himself? This WC overall was outstanding

I was 14 years old in 1986 watching this game on TV in Houston, Texas. In also watched the Argentina-Germany Final, I can still remember the words and screams of the biased spanish-speaking TV sports commentator screaming an obscenity when Maradona scored the 3rd goal on Germany.

You are right of course, the assumptions of the commentators were ridiculous. Keep in mind though: In the '80's level was OFF. That is to say, you usually needed daylight between you and the defender or expect to be called off. And directives were NOT to give benefit of the doubt to the attacker. You generally needed to be very deep to reasonably expect an onside call. Belgium did not feel as ripped off at the time as we think now. It was normal. You really had to EARN goals in the '80's lol

However if you watch the replay in slow motion you will in fact find that it came of off the side of Maradona's left boot right as Butcher was bringing him down. Incredible but true! It may be the greatest solo goal ever performed in any professional match of the modern era!

This was Diego's greatest performance in a World Cup game. He was at his absolute best! But, I forgot that Belgium was denied two possible goals here. But, the game was dominated by Argentina anyway. NO excuses. ARGENTINA Won fair and square.

Yes, there was Maradona magic. But those 2 "off side" call by the referee Mr. Silva was doubtful.Then the rhythm of the match would be different. Even then we will agree , Argentina could come back. Argentina was really a Champion in the 1986 WC tournament. Maradona makes the sports called "Football- Soccer" so beautiful. Cheers!

No entiendo esa manía, esa estupidez de esperar que Messi tenga que hacer lo mismo que Maradona. Son dos jugadores distintos en épocas distintas. Es al pedo la comparación. Todos se acuerdan con cariño ,por dar un ejemplo, de Batistuta que tampoco nos dio una copa mundial, pero a Messi siempre le están pegando

Aunque a Maradona lo banco y obviamente fue mas grande que Messi, la pulga estuvo muy cerquita de ganar en el 2014..y ese mundial te aseguro que hubiera sido recordado casi como el Maradona del 86, porque gracias a Messi en ese mundial tuvimos una chance.

@@JustBalazs in 90 they weren't a good team but they cheated and fouled their way to the final. Maradona was crap as well generally but his presence helped the other players immensely.

Jean Marie Pfaff, probably the best goalkeeper in the world at the time.

That was maradona's best game in 86.people talk about the match with england.but,in this game he scored 2, and made passes which his colleague could've scored 3 goals as well.

I was fortunate, I watched the magician in 1986, 1990 and 1994

Same here man, The Netherlands didn't qualify so I was supporting Argentina cause of Maradona, truly a legend. You gave the world so much joy of your football skills. R.I.P. 🙏
