Great video! But I would like to add some more based on my study. I've been playing brawl since it was first released and I spent a lot of time studying what happens during an x-pivot and why. In summary, a move that keeps momentum will reverse the x-axis velocity, but not the y-axis velocity. Because there is always a downward velocity (the gravity keeping you grounded. Also in brawl there is no acceleration, so everything is velocity), most x-pivots move diagonally downward. However, in some cases, you can x-pivot when you have an upward y-axis velocity, a rising x-pivot. This is most commonly done with a back dash jump into a pivot because the back dash holds the jump velocity longer than a forward dash. It can also be done by running (holding the direction after the initial dash) into a jump which makes your jump slightly higher and longer which therefore times the x-pivot when you have a y-axis velocity. There are some creative ways to do this as well. With correct spacing on a soft platform, you can dash off the ledge and dash back through the ledge holding your dashing velocity in the air, a dashing ledge pivot (DLP). Because this has all the properties of a dash, the DLP can be x-pivoted. To visualize this, you can imagine the top platform of great hall. First, you dash right. Then you DLP left so you are in the air under the platform with the velocity of a dash. Then you x-pivot the DLP so your x-axis velocity reflects again and you slide offstage. I find this to be a very useful mix-up with gauntlets for unexpected dairs. Finally, there is a bug which is relatively impractical, but I don't think anyone has found or utilized it very much. Off of a DLP, you can jump right after the dash back while keeping the dash velocity for a few frames. If done correctly, you can do anything that can be x-pivoted and it will keep the velocity of the jump. For example, you dash off the ledge, then dash jump back so you are raising in the air (you have a positive y-axis velocity), then use sword recovery which adds the y-velocity from your jump and from the recovery so it goes higher than usual. I don't know why this is the only case where y-velocity seems to add, but it can be used for very interesting x-pivots, but I think it is because it is a dash jump which can always be canceled into a move. This allows you to use the DLP for raising x-pivots or for really high kills off the top. Less researched, I have found that you can use the same DLP timing on a solid platform and with very tight timing you can perform a grounded aerial. This is usually very situational, but it is useful for gauntlet nair and sair for grounded air combos. Also, I have found at very specific percents which varies per character, you can even x-pivot your knockback. This is the most practical but the least researched application of x-pivots. If mastered, it can reflect all x-velocity from a knockback saving you from an edge guard situation or even a kill. I have yet to find more information on this because the timing varies with percent, but if anyone has found more I would love to hear about it. I hope this was clear and informative. This is all based on my own experiments in training and in custom rooms. If you would like more clarification or information about any of these topics or how I reached these conclusions, please comment below. edit: I forgot to mention other niche techs. First, you can moonwalk a gauntlet gp which I never had the terminology for until now, but allows you to gp backwards with all of your momentum and control your momentum in both directions fully--very useful. Also, you can x-pivot a dash soft drop (dash on a soft platform and fall through it by holding down), but the result is minimal, slow, and almost useless. Finally, x-pivots done from a speed dodge left or right will always have a straight x-velocity (a 0 y-velocity) until the end of the speed dodge which is why you can never rising x-pivot a speed dodge. However, unarmed nair and hammar dair are the only moves that I have found that can for some reason x-pivot a diagonal speed dodge. Again, I don't know why so if anyone can explain this, I would love to finally solve this mystery.

Awesome. Here’s a video idea that might benefit slightly serious players. Explain power casting options in training mode. Not frame stepping (too basic). An example use case would be to observe stun times etc after you hit and determining different follow ups after that for typical reactions. Go one step further and explain why a certain follow up is more efficient than another one. I’m sure most of the pro’s use something like this to know what are the most optimal options they can use.

Honestly something that is actually relevant and helpful. That could teach a lot of kids how to be good. I see the same basic start ups on combos all the time and its predictable and gross. IMO, if there was anything to teach, I say u hit the nail on the head.

the going backwards thing you're describing is dashing on the lip of a soft platform, it works forwards too. might do a ledge cancel guide if it's something a lot of ppl want

Hold down and dash jump. If you hold down and dash it will already dash forward and cancel a chase dodge allowing x-pivot bait or even recovery

what about that advanced trick with dodge + jump after (perfect frame) that people most use in gautlents to make dlight + nair a true combo

Are you on console or keyboard? Console you have to press 2 buttons (jump button first then side air while your joystick is either left or right towards your opponent). Keyboard you must have your keyboard set up your jump being the space bar or else you cannot do any of the weapons that have true combos true.

I use an xbox one controller and every time I try pivoting an attack after hitting an attack (Blasters dlight for example), it takes my dash jump input as a chase dodge instead. What am I supposed to do to pivot after an attack?

Literally i tried x pivoting for 10 minutes and not even once i cannot do it. i only get slight, so: D + dash (with shift, any suggestiong on another keybind for dashing?), then i stop pressing the D+dash, press A once for changing directions and the nlight. is that order correct? im going insane! Oh i forgot to mention. i can do the x pivot with the jump and with the dlight. only the nlight is the one that i NEVER could do it

@@lucasbokma9136 yea just stick to 1 character, practice movement. movement is the most important thing to be good at in brawlhalla. and play weapons that are in meta. sword, axe, hammer are really good to climb with. don't spam sigs. i only have about 300 hours in the game so if i can do it that fast. anyone can do it. just keep playing the game. and you will improve

Disclaimer: these controls are really weird to swap to so don"t apply these if you do not want to (also for people who use ONLY their keyboard to play brawlhalla) for all those "keyboard only" peeps, i highly recommend setting jump to "space bar", aim up to "w" and, set jump and aim up to "nothing" (press esc while selecting). now you are going to set "prioritize neutral over side" on (this can be found in the top right of "keyboard a controls"), and you are going to turn "pickup with light attack" off. Now, this WILL feel weird to play but you will get used to it. it is a lot easier to use than default controls. first off you will now pickup with your "throw item key" and second the prioritize neutral over side makes it so while holding "w" and holding "a or d" you will only do a nair or nlight making it so you can properly dash jump, hold "w" and turn around with "a or d" and then press light attack. you will x-pivot in the air. (this applies to all weapons and this can be done without jumping such as dash, chasedodge, and dashing off stage to do a reverse dair or nair or sair, dlight, nlight, slight, dsig, nsig, and ssig, (also applies to some ground pounds)).

To do a x-pivot you just dash but make sure your analog stick is pointed down and do a quick turn around nlight or whatever move you're trying If you're messing up a dash jump pivot you just input the attack as soon as possible after the dash jump
