I always thought that William was going to cry at that one part when he talks with Robert. It’s during the parts where William says,, “Now’s our chance, now!” and before they shake hands (“Unite us! Unite the clans!”). Poor William.

Wallace, sadly for him, was always doomed. He spent so much time facing down Edward I and the English that he didn’t spot the enemy within - the Scottish nobles, who had lands and estates not only in Scotland but also across the border in England. Money will always triumph over patriotism; that was true in Wallace’s time and it is exactly the same today.

Wallace in real life was a noble, and, for the love of god, don't believe in anything you see in the film. English ruled over Scot for 1 fking year. Research a bit before trying to say smart stuff.

Robert the Bruce was the right man for the job. Wallace knew he saw it in him with his vision and wisdom. Despite the fact that this belief would surpass his time on earth, Robert the Bruce learnt from Wallace's example and never wasted his efforts by ultimately winning back Scottish independence by waging protracted war with England by never giving up. Bruce definitely wasn't as courageous as Wallace but he had perseverance and knew when to pick his fights

I think you should consult the historiography a bit more closely. The Bruce fought against England for most of his life. He gave up everything to pursue the kingship of scotland. He lost his lands and titles. He was on the run from 1306 to 1314. Even after that he fought major engagements against the English until they finally agreed to come to the negotiating table upon the insistence of the young King Edward III, his mother Isabella of France and the pope. He and his lieutenants, Thomas Randolph and James Douglas outfoxed the English for the better part of 2 decades. The latter almost captured King Edward III himself. Robert Bruce was no coward and he achieved a lot more than wallace did. Though wallace is more fondly remembered for his selflessness and willingness to die in the face of insurmountable odds. The Bruce supported him though, he just had a lot more to lose in terms of titles. The coincidence of the Bruce kingship with the ill health of Edward longshanks is also not so. They knew he was unwell and dying - hence he tried to tempt John comyn to join with him to strike against the English whilst their leadership was weak.

The actor who played Bruce played that role well. That little touch where he disdained Wallace's making the sign of the cross - perhaps from bitterness, disdain or scorn - was well done. Like every politician he deals in Machiavellian structures.

"What makes a good king?" "Courage?" "Yes. Sir William Wallace was courageous. He had a great talent for inspiring courage in the smallfolk. Fought against impossible odds and won. But courage alone isn't enough to win a war. In his zeal, he forgot that. He also thought he could insult and shame the nobles into supporting his foolish crusade. Rather predictably, they betrayed him. The men who followed him perished, and he went into hiding. What good was his courage then?"

Yes, you are right. You just implied the main problem in our country; MOST of the kurdish people always want to put forward their race as if it means something. When a ethnic group gets nationalist in your own country where your ancestors had lived and bled for the lands, don't you get nationalist? In WW1 all the nations in Turkey (Arabs, Zazas, Armenians, Bosnians, Chechens, Turkmens...) fought together in all fronts. It was so harsh that male population in Turkey got low and women couldn't get married for some time! After these things, couple of douchebags with no history comes up and says Hey, give us the corner of your nation because we live there! No man, thats not the way, at least from perspective of Turkish youth.

  • @JurgenKrace

That's called separatism. Well, pesonally i dont see a point in this - i mean, in getting an Independence as such. Kurds in the end, will live poor and much harder, because they will be a single, independent piece, instead of being a part of huge, economically developing country. Basically everything could be setteled. Look at Spain or UK. UK gave a chance for Scotts but they have refused independency. Because they have realised what will happend with economy. Same thing is happening in Spain. But, If Kurds have there, for example, such things as a discrimination, or any other sort of rassism or injustice based on ethnicity and (or) language - then these people will never be satisfied with any kind of сoncessions, and always will keep fighthing for independency. Look at Armenians for exapmle - their economy is fucked up, they live very poor, but at least they can speak, study and work using their language, and there is no discrimination coming from another major ethnic group. I dont know the current situation, neither i was in Turkey, so it's hard for me to say what is it to be a Kurdish guy today in Turkey. If media thing is not a propaganda, and tell us truth that turkish army indeed makes military operations against kurdish members labour party of Kurdistan, then, for me, it's hard to believe that one day Kurds will be satisfied with autonomy. In this case, you should either just let them go, give them their land and sovereignty or simply kill them all, and keep the territory and resources. That's the way how it's done.

24/06/2016 - the day when Scotland finally realised that, no matter what they, as a Nation desire and vote for, they will always get what England want. The United Kingdom and Great Britain die from this day forward. Alba Go Brach

This is probably one of the more accurate parts of the film, although it’s uncertain if Bruce and Wallace ever met. The Scots did indeed have divided loyalties, partly due to the Norman influence and feudalism. Edward 1 played on this.

it is very strange that there are certain causes that can be fight among men and women together against tyranny that some would say is just a blind rage but that blind rage is actually being fought for in the thought of knowing that is fighting for rights of people to be able to live and not worry about everyday things that could bring them down like some random army invading and pillaging them for no reason and wanting to say no that cannot happen anymore

This was another awesome scene in a great movie. The rebellion is well underway, Sir William has defeated the English army in Scotland and then again in England with his army. Now the English were going to respond but the Nobles do not believe they can win the next fight. Sir William believes different and he makes it known to Robert the Bruce and the Nobles. This was the chance Scotland had been waiting for. The chance to finally rid themselves of the rule of the English and Longshanks for good. Sir William and his army were going to fight but he needed Robert the Bruce and the Nobles to help him. The Bruce wants to help him, he wants to fight this War. But Scotland's politicians were cowards and far too easily seduced by what England may offer them. Would they show up to help Sir William in battle after this or not?

+shanemental It's akin (and I hope to avoid a flamewar here) the situation in Germany in 1918, Germany with the Russians out of the way were poised to win (even with the eventual US intervention as Russia left). But public opinion of the war was swayed by the influential folk (nobles) and strikes throughout the war industries happened and the war was gifted to the allies as German logistics dried up. It was the perfect setup for Hitler to justify his hate for Jews by accusing them of losing Germany the war, in his eyes the Jews were the nobles who refused to continue the war despite Germany's technological and tactical lead.
