Threw my new pair of 21oz selvedge jeans in the washer with cold water right after I bought them. Threw them in the dryer for about half the dry period and hung dryer the remainder. They came out great and break in was a bit easier.

Yes, this is so awesome to hear! It’s good to see people treating their denim however they want to!

That’s a pretty great fit. I am in the middle of being broken in by a pair of 21.5 oz. Once they are done with me in a few months, I will go for a nice hot soak in the tub. I know it’s ass-backwards, but these jeans are way tougher than me. :) Cheers

Did your patch lose most of it's definition from soaking? I soaked mine and that was the result. It's nice to see someone that isn't afraid to wash their denim.

I have to correct myself. After going back and looking at my 3 pairs of Brave Star’s, here is what I see: The patch on the new pair is white and pretty defined. The patch on the pair I washed after 50 wears is pretty unremarkable. This is nothing negative, but I feel it needs more breaking in. The patch on the pair I have worn 400+ times and only soaked 4 times looks great. Dark leather that has taken on character from the shirts I’ve worn and things I’ve done wearing the jeans. So, my overall take is that over time the patch will really start to define itself, and take on some character based on how you’ve worn it!

Doing this to my gustins now. Will post back with my results. They’re soaking in woolite dark defense and cold water because I don’t want to shrink em. Soaked another pair of gustins in the washer with regular detergent and they faded too much. Also became SO stiff. I’m hoping towel rolling them before hanging helps with the stiffness

Yo I just turned them over. I expected the water to be navy blue/grey. No it’s yellow brown. Holy sh*t I’m glad I’m washing these. When I flipped them a whole bunch of tan water rushed into the tub omg.

I'm not that tall of a guy, I have to cuff my jeans 4 times to get it the right length, which ends up kind of bulky. Just curious if you'd ever hem selvedge jeans, or if the cuffs will eventually soften up on their own.

I prefer to get them hemmed, as I end up with bulky cuffs due to being vertically challenged! My advice is to get a chain stitch hem. It’s the only way to truly get a good hem with selvedge denim. Brave Star will do it, as will a place in Philly called Franklin and Poe. I’m actually heading to Franklin and Poe in the next few weeks to get my N&F hemmed. If they let me, I want to film the interaction and end result.

I just got my first pair of brave Star first time getting this type of denim. I just got the standard 36” length which is way too long for me have to triple cuff. My question is how much shrinkage can I expect in length? They fit me good everywhere besides that. There is so much different info on this. Normal Levi 505 I’m 30” length and can still do 1 cuff lol thanks.

Congrats on entering the world of raw denim! As for your situation, I have been there. The regular taper that I have are not hemmed and are a 36” inseam. I soaked them in hot water after 50 wears, and they lost some length, but not as much as I had hoped. Due to that, I use a Tokyo cuff. It looms sharp and takes up a lot of length without getting bulky.

Good idea! If they are still too long, you can always get a hem afterwards. If you do get a hem, drop a comment here and I can suggest a couple places that will do a legit chain stitch hem!

Yeah I should probably do this, do you think this will help define my fades? I have a 12oz pair of Bravestar’s and the fades are just not coming.

I would say my fades are not too defined after this wash. They are there, but nothing too crazy. I do think that they will be more defined after the next soak/wash, which will be after about 70 or so more wears. The pair of slim taper’s I have that came out with great fades took time. My advice is to be patient, and when you think you’re ready to wash them, wear them 10 more times before doing it!

I've got a few pairs that refuse to fade even after a year like the memphis cotton one. Now my 13oz blue ridge or something like that is starting to show some fading finally after about 4 months. My 21oz is fading nicely without any soaks or washes but they're just barely starting to break in. I'm sure a soak will bring em out, i know cause ive had em before in a smaller size, gained weight and had to rebuy most pairs and start fading over again. That 15oz cone mills is so beautiful, love the cross hatching on em plus they're pretty soft after break in.

Nice work! When trying to get the best fades, patience is key. And yes, the fades will be more defined after your 1st soak or wash.

Charles Bronson fades will arrive with time,longer to fade better the denim,the 21 oz in Brave star is made to fade its full of indigo saturated,this is pure cone it takes time

What do you recomend for new raw denim jeans not turning your boots blue?

Some people like to do a soak before wear and that will get out most of the loose indigo that rubs out on new jeans.

Привет мой друг! Джинсы уменьшились примерно на 0,635 сантиметра. Я думаю, что преобразовал это правильно. Не так сильно, как я надеялся, все еще нужен ремень, но они выглядят и чувствуют себя прекрасно!

sanforized denim do not shrink if they do it's usually less that 1 cmin the length and about 1 cm in the waist which stretches back after wearing for and hour

u need a bit more front rise in your denim i would recommend 0.5 to 1 inch more in the front rise for your next pair

I just throw all of my jeans together in cold water with appropiate detergent and then hang them to dry. They turn out great. Hand washing is too much of a chore for me.

@@DIYTutorialGuy I do think the best way is to hand wash, but if you have several pairs. It can take a long time to actually get it all done. If it’s just one Or two then I would hand wash.

You are supposed to use cold water. Hot water messes with the cotton fibers and takes away the ink.

You are supposed to wash denim however the hell you want to wash denim. I chose to use hot water, which was described in the video description, which you either didn’t read or chose to ignore and provide commentary. This is not my first rodeo.

@@DIYTutorialGuy Yeah I'm with you on the hot water if you need shrinkage. I like the 2nd extra cold wash process. I have the 21 heavy(slim straight) and 15 cone(slim straight) from BraveStar. Ended up ordering another 15 cone (true straight, coz they ran out of my size in slim straight) which I know I will need a bit of shrinkage so I will follow this instructions. Awesome videos man. Keep it coming!

Hahaha, yeah, that was pretty bad. But the people need their videos, so I went ahead and shot it. I am pleased to say that both the tub and tile have been reglazed and look brand new now!
