I had a pair of Coopers hawks nest in my yard this spring. It was cute watching the 4 young hawks try and catch squirrels . The squirrels seemed to toy with them and their clumsy attempts at catching them, didnt seem the least bit scared. Big grey squirrels. The hawks would look so confused and perplexed, it was funny to watch. Years before this i had a pair of Barred Owls nest and raise young that was cool also

Even when hawk is getting some he still looks mad. 😂

The hawk was like: What the fck just happened? LOL

I think hes crossed that fine line, betwen bravery and stupidity.

Squirrels take the same pathways as much as they can. I seen a squirrel last winter who takes the same way by my house do the exact same thing with a wild turkey. You can see the squirrel attempting other ways first.

Stupidity is perhaps the proper word to describe any creature that thinks its ok to allow animals like tigers & hawks to continue their non-stop pain-inflicting existences; those hawks can die of starvation for all I care, just as you clearly don't care in the least bit for the animals they prey on which survive just fine living off of the land & not by torturous hunting. I literally beg you not to breed, good sir; for the love of everything else in this world for which you are a part of whether you choose to acknowledge it or not.

That squirrel is "Jacked Up." Just look at his muscle @ 01:12 He ain't your ordinary squirrel. I can assure you most squarril are not this muscular. Some boarding on "fat." And just look at how nimble he is. He ZOOMED right past that Hawk in a flash!

Its so funny the squirrel actually startled the goshawk 😂

I watched a situation just like this. Squirrel and Great Horned Owl. It went on for nearly an hour. You could just see the owl picturing a piece of bread on either side of the squirrel. The owl got tired of it after a while, and when she started to ignore the squirrel, the squirrel started taunting her. Not too smart.

That squirrel has balls.

+Stephan Ottow Klar war das in meinem Park, ich kenne doch die Äste und das Eichhörnchen :-) Die ist zu alt mit 23/24 ist irgendwann Schluß, normalerweise wird ein Habicht in der Natur nur ca. 20, beim Falkner können es schon 28 Jahre sein. Sie lässt sich trotz vertrockneter Eierstöche schön abfüttern, bekommt jeden Tag Ringeltaube und er frisst die Ratten :-) Warum entdecke ich erst jetzt durch Zufall deine supertollen Filme? Da muss ich nun einiges nachholen. Hoffe dir und der Familie geht es gut, bei mir sind große Veränderungen eingetreten...! Bis bald, Ron.

Don't forget, squirrels are also dangerous predators for birds. They raid the nests and eat the eggs or even the chicks when they get a chance. Probably best for the goshawk to reach an understanding with this squirrel or another one will come and try to pull some shit lol :)

Wow, super gefilmt. Was für gute Bilder. Ich wusste nicht, dass ich eine ebensolch gute Kamera (alpha 6400) habe. Aber wie so oft, der Mensch der dahinter steht macht die Musik. Aber ein spezielles Objektiv hast Du sicher verwendet oder?

I would be interested to know where this was shot. Northern goshawks are found in North America as well as Europe and Asia. But that squirrel looks like a tassel eared squirrel found in the Western US.

Sehr interessante Aufnahme. Die Habichte haben gerade gefressen, deshalb waren sie nicht im Jagdmodus. Das Eichhörnchen war bestimmt noch sehr jung und hat noch keine negativen Erfahrungen mit Habichte gemacht.

The squirrel versus hawk is like seal versus shark; the predator can’t catch the prey if the prey sees it coming. The prey is too quick and agile to be caught. That’s why both sharks and hawks prefer sneak attacks.

Natural selection culls animals that don't have enough sense to run after seeing a carnivore without running away. Of course predators will attemp to sneak up on prey. All mammals do the same thing, even humans when hunting sneak up on animals.
