This cat was not afraid of a coyote. Chased the coyote across the busy street and then turned and went home. Taken Oct 16/14, Vancouver, BC

That cat is very, very lucky. Having dealt extensively with coyotes, I've seen this behavior. Coyote will test play with a cat, leading it away to an area where another coyote is, they will then kill and eat the cat. I've seen this happen with small dogs as well. I've even seen where a coyote will test nip and test play with a larger dog, to only lead it to a family pack of up to 30 Coyotes, and then they kill and eat the dog. Sadly, once a Coyote starts seeing your neighborhood pets as a food source it will not stop killing the pets. At first it was thought you only needed to keep your pets in at night, but coyotes are very smart and will brazenly hunt pets in a neighborhood during daylight hours.

Cats know no fear. But only because they know they possess some of the fastest reflexes in the animal kingdom.

if there wasn't a person videotaping and the coyote was hungry, this would be a very different scenario

the coyote is not affraid of the cat, it is not at ease with the presence of humans.... hopefully, that cat never ends up all alone in front of this coyote, because surely it will end up in the coyote's stomach.

Ridiculous.... domestic cats are not afraid of people... coyotes wouldn't try that with people around. had the people not been there - this probably would have been different.

The coyote doesn't appear to be in predator mode, which would completely change the outcome of this encounter.

I would say this is one lucky cat... food is plentyful for yotes during the summer months so hunger is not a priority. Maybe he is to busy itching... probably has worms seeing him sliding on his butt..

I'm worried that the coyote was more scared of you than the cat.
