Great video. Last i had a Braun was when the series 6 was the highest it went. I absolutely loved it. Now 30 years later I'm looking for a new one. I loved the Braun and i tend to be very brand loyal. I also remember those lift and cut commercials. So far im leaning towards the Arc6. Im seeing dome very impressive videos on it. Thank you

Im happy with Braun as it has lasted me 10 year's. Now im upgrading from series 3 to S9 Pro. Hope to get it soon in the mail. Ive had bad luck with Panasonic and norelco in the past they quit or battery die too quick. My series 3 still does 2 to 3 full shaves facial and head.

Thanks for the review JP, this is one of the more practical reviews on Series 9 vs Arc 5 that I've seen 👍 Just curious, for the Panasonic cleaning station with the reusable cartridge, do we have to use the cleaning fluid from Panasonic or could we just use any soap water in there? Thanks.

Good Video. I have had the Panasonic Arc 5 for about 5 years now. I shave my head and my whiskers, but I do have a goatee and the HUGE head on the Panasonic makes it hard to get close to the goatee for detail work. I always have to touch up with a different razor. I live in a small town with the closest larger city about 100 miles away so I buy from Amazon. A while back I was looking for new blades for my Arc 5 and the prices have gone up so much for original blades and as of lately the originals are shipped from Europe and will take several months to get here. (Do not buy non branded blades even though they are cheaper but they don't last and fall apart.) I decided to go buy a new shaver and went with the Braun Series 9 pro because it's more popular and a lot easier to get Braun branded blades at almost half the cost of Panasonic blades. So even though the Braun costs more money I wish i would have chosen this model a long time ago. For me It cuts just as good as the Panasonic, the shaver head isn't as bulky and I can cut close to my goatee without having to get a different razor. I have already ordered a spare Braun shaver head just so I have a spare and It came quickly. It was half the cost of the blades from Panasonic. Buy Braun, You'll be happier.

Have you looked at the arc 6? Interested in seeing the difference between that and series pro 9. You make a lot of valid points about the arc five. I just want to get some thing that is it going to give me the closest head shave, and the most convenient and quickest fashion. Having the additional travel charging case is nice. And making sure that the cleaning station works properly is very important to me. What’s the point of dropping a lot of money if the return is not worth it. Thank you so much for this under the radar yet informative review

Have you tried contacting Braun? Maybe you have a defective item. I’m mainly going to be using for shaving my head, and I’ve come down to these two products I’m inclining towards the Panasonic, but I am unable to find blade replacements for the new arc six. Panasonic just seems better because of all the points you mentioned, as well as the fact that it has better maneuverability. The only thing Braun Pro 9 has over the arc six is the lower price point coupled with the charging traveling case , as well as the 100% waterproof claim, but what’s the point of all of that if it won’t dry properly, if the cost of the cleaning liquid is more expensive, and the maneuverability is more limited. These things are long-term investments, and should have a return on the investment!

I bought and tried both. Not an issue for me. The heads were similar in size, but the panoramic is a true 5 blade unlike the Braun. You make a lot of good points, but I think from a cost perspective it’s not as cut and dry as you make it seem and from a long term cost of ownership perspective Braun blows Panasonic away. First off, you can get a Braun Series 9 pro (9465) with the cleaning station for $249. The only difference between that and the model you show is the hard travel charging case - I guess that case is a neat thing, but short of going on a wilderness retreat where you want to use an electric shaver, what purpose does that actually serve? Second, Panasonic’s manual indicates the battery has a three year life - and I’ve heard many say that after 3-4 years their Panasonics die. If you’re ok with replacing your electric every 2-4 years I guess that’s ok but for that investment I’d like to get more out of it. Braun advertises 7 years for their shaver life and I’m currently on year 14 of my Series 7 and the battery has shown literally zero signs of slowing down. Prior to owning the 7 I had another Braun that was still going strong on year 13 and I simply decided to upgrade (similar to the boat I’m in now). Their cutter/foil replacements are also around 40-50% cheaper than the price of Panasonic. Not to mention the cleaning station is a much lower cost - you can cap Braun’s cleaning solution to preserve it and prevent evaporation - it’s totally unnecessary to use it daily, so I’ll get several months out of one. Can’t do that with Panasonic, that has to be changed monthly.

Post script to my comment above - for me, neither one of these beats the Braun series 7 (the older generation, not the redesigned one). My 12 year old series 7 still works great, but the heating induction on the cleaning station failed so I wanted to replace it. I tried the Arc 5 first for a couple of weeks and I found the size unwieldy, especially around my nose, and worse yet it left a very uncomfortable burning sensation on my skin daily. The Braun 9 pro was extremely comfortable and I thought just as close as the Panasonic, but I also thought the head was a little too big and thus ultimately not worth the cost of the upgrade. Since the old Series 7 is discontinued, I was fortunate enough to find a new in box Series 7 760-cc-4 on eBay and I find that just as comfortable and close as the Series 9 for less than half the cost. I also like that it’s a dry only model and can be used corded, which adds to the longevity. Ultimately, shaving is a very personal thing and while reviews can steer you in one direction, the fact that both manufacturers have generous return policies makes it a no brainer to try these for yourself and make your own judgement, the same way the video author did.

It's not "double" the cost of Braun. You're lying. Panasonic blade and foil combo pack costs $49.84. Braun series 9 costs around 49 to 54 $ depending where you buy it. Plus, you failed to mention that the Panasonic blade and foil lasts three times longer than the Braun. For every 3 Braun foils you buy/replace vs 1 Panasonic blade/foil. Braun $150 vs Panasonic $49.84. Oops, I failed to mention that the Arc 5 cleaning station uses induction heating to dry the razor... the Braun does not. And... the Panasonic provides a significantly CLOSER shave. 😉
