    I know it's 2 years later and all but in the last move of the game Wendy sells each of her chimneys for 1 barrel each, while it should have been 2 BARRELS EACH. 😅 Sooo the score might not have been that uneven if not for this slight cheat.

    Thanks for your efforts with this video. One point: the rules say that you refill your hands after your actions. This matters as this can speed up the game, especially in multiplayer games, since players can plan their next turn earlier.

    Wendy's habit (especially in late game) of doing two things at once and paying it all is error-prone and sometimes confusing to the viewer (and to the players). I think the custom from Heavy Cardboard of playing a card, taking the action, putting the money on the card (not on the board/order token) to simplify accounting and take-backs, and then verifying everything before committing the money and discards, is appropriately methodical for a game like this. Wendy got her bottle kiln in Stafford without playing a card, but then discovered at the end of the turn (around 1:25:00) that she had an extra card, and didn't know what to play (or what she had intended to play), and threw an iron card. She should have played her Stafford card (which she later proved to have in her hand, so it wasn't a cheat). Even experienced players have those 'oh, wait, never mind, I can't do that' moments, so players really do need to play this game very carefully, and make sure they can change their minds during the turn without losing track of everything. Good play-through vid, though, all in all.

    That's a fair point about it being confusing for the viewer. It is easier to follow if each step is followed by the book. Sometimes the excitement of pulling off a move overrides our attempt to be methodical on the video (See: Rahdo, haha). Thanks for pointing out the experience from the viewer. We'll try to be more precise in future playthroughs, and thanks for watching!

    Very good play through, I just got this game this week and I’m excited to give it a go. This helped me understand the game a lot. I was a bit confused as to everything that happened on Wendy’s turns since she was taking both turns at the same time. It seemed as though even the players were having trouble keeping track of all the accounting. Aside from that, thanks for the great video!

    1:29:09 was invalid move, because both potteries required 2 beers each, therefore the total beers needed to flip 3 tiles were 5 instead of 3 that Wendy used.

    An advice for new players. Don't make several discards piles, there is no point, there is no mechanic in game which makes you pick up cards from discarded pile. Sometime people put their cards down on table and pick up discard pile back up I had this happen quite a few times during my plays. There is nothing that those discard piles do they just take space and make bunch of spots on table where we have cards. Just stack all discarded cards at the same place. But during a player turn they should set their two cards that they are playing at the for example top of the board so everyone can see them. When they finish they turn just chuck them at the discard pile and move to the next player. During this chucking is when that player should go back to 8 cards. Also formalize player taking action. It will be a bit strange first couple of actions but then you will start to not even notice it and will be much easier to follow. So there is no action that goes, I will play this card, and put that there paying 15 pounds, but I turn my tile so my income is also there. Is coal that was used, oh yeah please Jeff move it. This way there is no way anyone can follow and if you want to play fairly anyone trying to check legality of the move will just take so much time. Instead do this: State action, state card, take playing piece, put it on board, pay costs, get income if you sold anything, then flip other tiles if they needed flipping. Second action is the same: State action, state cards etc. This will seem like it's slowing the game, but what you realize is that it actually speeds it up because it easy to spot rule breaks. So no turn should go, ok 2 cards, I spend 37 pounds, put this here and that there, my 3 tiles flip, remove bier please, my income is going 15 up I eared 12 pounds.

    Is the move at 9:20 even legal? By placing the first connection, the network is set. To place the second connection (the one to Cannock), you would have to have a building in Wolverhampton first before you can expand from there. At least that's my understanding. Same goes for the action at 14:00.

    Wendys (Purple) first turn - she buys TWO steel - why?

  • @brkus2665
    @brkus26652 жыл бұрын

    Wendy is cheating a bit, probably not intentional but still getting an advantage that shouldn't be there. She takes a loan of 60 and then should pay 6 for negative income, but just ignores it and moves on and later plays 2 cards and selecting 2 actions that can't be achieved by those 2 cards. Which would be easy to catch if she played 1 by 1. What I got from my plays of Brass is that most of time you win just by checking what opposing players are doing and forcing them to follow rules. If you focus too much on yourself people just don't pay, take coal where they can't, steal bear barrels etc. This will make a game longer but usually if you are the "policeman" of the game you will win.

    The inclusion in the rules of the details of the industrialist characters on the cards is good, but I do wonder if a phonetic pronunciation guide to the placenames would have been useful: Walsall = "war-sall" Nuneaton = "none-eaten" Worcester = "wuss-ter" (wuss to rhyme with fuss) Uttoxeter = "you-toxeter" (And before any Americans complain about British pronunciations - have a look at Arkansas, Boise and Des Moines 😉)
