I completely agree that the Traveller and Paimon not having to be present in the story quests would open the door for more interesting stories to be told about the characters. I also like the idea of them leveraging the red leylines (which tbh I also forgot about) to let us experience past events, and then if they still want to involve the Traveller they can just have them comment on what they saw afterward. For better or worse it looks like the self-insert style of story quests will probably be here to stay, but it would be cool if they implemented the leyline idea as a separate quest category in the future.

funnny how two charecter we spent all of our time with, aether and paimon also happen to be two of the most unloved and ignored characters, we know little to nothing about either of them and besides a few cool cutscenes with aether we get no development, this is why the lates cloud retainer SQ was so good, aether finally got a bit of screen time lol

@@Indian_gae_boii I get what you mean, it would be good if the story explored them more as characters more often, instead of in the few Dain/abyss crumbs we get each year. I also don't hate Paimon that much tbh. It takes a lot for a character to annoy me. I do have personal issues with the Traveller, but moreso around how they seem to be written as wish fulfillment self-inserts despite clearly having their own personality and interesting backstory, but this is more of a general writing complaint not related to the issue of screentime. Giving them more screentime probably would help a lot of people connect with them and their journey more. Regarding my opinion on the SQs though it isn't about the protags themselves, more about how I think the character quests are limited by them needing to be there. I'd be saying the same thing even if they were the best characters in the game.

as someone who plays the game for lore and story specifically and has read countless hours worth of ingame lore and books, I know better than anyone how genuinely a$$ the early game story quests were, i remember playing ambers story quest and remember how bored i was i actually fell asleep i genuinely fell asleep it was that boring lol the difference in writing between the lore and the main stories is insane, i remember reading up on dessert lore and how this one slave girl who got sold off to a king was making plans to unalive the king while having rough segs with the kings son and i was like is this really genshin 💀💀and the writing itself was so much more mature, compared to the childish writing of main quests

throughout watching this video i’ve noticed how immature his mindset is about good storytelling. and because he’s being paid from this game as well as enjoys the game, it’s hard for him to make any critisisms towards it. genshin is probably my favorite game i’ve ever played because of how perfectly it suits my tastes but even i can tell when there’s issues that need to be figured out. such as the storytelling, in game gifts, and the quality of life features. and if me, a 19 year old can figure that out im sure he could if he actually thought harder about it.

Fun fact: the thing you said around 1:32:00 actually happened in HSR, in one of the world quests, we played as a NPC Cocona perspective to see her life story, I felt so connected to her, wanted to protect her and almost wish she was playable. It'd be nice if they did it in Genshin too for the playable characters! Imagine playing as Nilou when her met her teacher and got her vision?? That's be lit!!

as a lore enthusiast, that was painful to watch ngl, what is mr. bran yapping about? makes negative amount of sense (no opinion on 3for3, i dont remember his thoughts on it at all) i wouldnt mind boring stupid useless npc-esque character quests if we just played as that actual character, not the traveler (who really never brings anything to the table in these quests anyway so we arent losing much). it would make us either like or hate the character because we see precisely the depth of said character - how they act, why, how they think, how they chose to solve the problem!!! it would make at least feel something, not leaving them benched collecting dust in the cupboard. i legit forgot that cyno-nilou-itto-ayato-kokomi-ayaka-yoimiya-tons_of_more even existed not to say that they had (n. 1st) character quests lmao this little impact they had on me like, i can still recount in details the whole venti-albedo-tartaglia 1st and zhongli-ei-nahida-yoimiya 2nd story quests. and i had them done the moment they dropped. man, ill never get people settling for the lowest when there's so many opportunities and potential....... sadge

Oh hey dude, I'm back and just finished the Yae Miko section, and for this I had to revisit some lore so I got your back, bro. 1. After refreshing my mind about the Ley Lines, I can back up that Yae Miko's story quest is indeed disappointing. Story-wise, this quest is basically Inazuma's version of Xiao's story quest, so it's nothing truly new to us. Character-wise, we learn nothing *NEW* regarding Yae nor her character is further developed; we already knew she's powerful through the Archon Quest since she can enter Ei's Plane of Euthymia and is the successor of Kitsune Saiguu. She's also very mischievous, smug and very little things truly amuse her. We also knew that everything she does/did is not without merit, but if she can avoid a nuance she definitely will. We already knew that she cares more about her publishing house than her job as the Guuji since she's already accustomed to dealing with wandering Youkais. We learnt more about her from the Archon Quest and Gorou's Hangout Event than from her own story quest. 2.- As for the world-building/lore aspect, again, we are told stuff that we already knew even back when it was released during 2.5. In fact, the whole stuff about the Ley Lines releasing spirits/memories was already told during Raiden's 2nd Story Quest, which I'm pretty sure is a requirement to do Yae's. The Ley Lines contain the memories/energy of all Teyvat, and when they are disturbed, a Disorder occurs. The only "new" thing we get from Yae's story quest is that spirits and memories are one of the same, they are fragments of data that leak out of Irminsul from time to time. For any additional context and further explanation, I strongly advise everything to check Ashikai, she's really amazing and her videos are great. So really what Brad is trying to defend is nothing but an eco of what his chat is saying since Yae doesn't really feel or become sad at any point of her quest, apart from a very brief comment by the end of her cutscene where she pisses on the moon. 3. As for a way to implement her past into the present, one way Hoyo would've done it was through what she loves: Her novels. Rather than having to wait half an hour for Yae to appear, we jump straight into her being absolutely mad and she dragged us into a meeting with her editors so we help her make a novel because right now there's one from a competing publisher house that's becoming very popular. We would then suggest adapting one of Yae's stories into a novel, to which she shuts down the idea out of nowhere and doesn't want to talk about it. We then might go to a place where the ley lines are being disrupted and see a fragment of Yae's memories, to which then she slowly reveals bits of when she was a younger youkai, or when she was with Kitsune Saiguu. And so the novel she wanted to make would slowly become a story she once heard from Kitsune Saiguu or something, which would work as Yae's way to honour her master. By the end we would see Yae remove her smug facade to reveal that she feels indeed lonely, and misses the time where the youkai lived among humans, being hopeless that, back when she needed to be the powerful shrine maiden that she is today, she was nothing but a little Kitsune hiding behind Saiguu. We would've learnt way more about the youkai and what happened to them, why Yae is the way she is, and why novels are important to her. Instead we just get reminded of what Yae can do already. So yeah, Brad is truly out of his mind to think Yae is one of the best examples of "good" character quests.

Fair theres just 7 things. 1. saying genshin is lazy of what content it feeds us is insane. like ignore the new Area ignore the new characters ignore everything because i guess its not "content" only the free rewards are the "content". 2. i dont really think HSR is more! difficult than genshin because in HSR i can just pick my 4 teams and click one button called auto battle and be done with it and im free to play with no Dr.ratio. it all comes down to what team you pick and if you have enough Damage to kill the enemy. while in genshin you need to actually dodge shit and apply elements and do elemental reaction. 3. about ayato story quest. isn't it like how a real politics work? Yapping until they solve something. ayato just did what he needs to do that is to maintain the stability of the tri-commission. 4. the traveler need to be there because the traveler is called the "witness" he needs to witness the world of teyvat as much as he/she can and yes its cool if we get a character quest without the traveler but its pointless because the traveler is not there witness and record it. 5. bro Teucer did get a small ruin guard toy from chilled... 6. saying yoimiya does not deserve her Vision is a BIG L take! because we dont fully know how a person to get a Vision but what we do Know is theres certain condition of how they get a Vision and yoimiya just fulfilled that condition to receive a Pyro Vision. 7. if you get angry with bran's chat then my guy its not just you thats a normal chat in everybody's chat they are there to support there streamer and whatever he says will highly likely that the chat will agree without thinking twice about it and them recommending the video and voting on it then later regret it is not there fault! they cant just like "oh whats this Tao Video About let me watch it and then vote" like you realize that voting has a time right? they cant just stop time and watch your video then Vote for it! what happen was is they took a look of the vote and saw the Title of your Video then say "oh this Tao Video sounds interesting" then voted for it! and regret it because they dont like the video thats a normal response! its just kinda unfair that you attack bran's community while your own chat here is attacking bran and he did not even say anything about your own Community. my point is its not just you its the internet so get used to it! note: i dont take side im on a neutral side i dont watch bran stream or your video just happen to see it while im eating and it sounds interesting. also i was about done writing this but i hear the end of the video its cringe bringing your race in to this i would 100% cut that off the video because your setting your self up for Racist People to harass you like you asking for it!

Rewatching many times the NPC's Story Quest and watching this video, I honestly think you make a really good point with the "show not tell" and how some story quest fail at showing something or telling it with the same basis, good idea, bad execution, like Wriostheley's It has to do with the game design since everything is centered about the perspective of the traveler, and I can honestly see how it can fail while having that basis, as someone studying in college right now for series, stories, game and pretty much media/entertainment production, and developing the story part of a visual novel I'm planning where getting to know about the characters gets limited to telling because of the gameplay it has, it can suffer from a story teller perspective, and that even gets me thinking about Wriostheley's story quest execution, because it could be good that he told the traveler that, if it was way more related to the previous part of the story quest, like, think about, either for some reason Wriostheley's crimes are brought up and you follow him trying to shove it all off or solve it regarding the issue with his past and he ends up telling you at the end of the day so you as the player understand why Wriostheley was so frustrated or rather interested in his past (something like that I honestly don't know too much about Wrio since I haven't got the chance to catch up with Fontaine as a whole), instead of just something that vagely reminding him of it "Oh but you can't view past events because time travel isn't a thing in Genshin so the Story Quest have to be something not stated from before" it could still be said or explained to you as the player by NPC's or the own character with more build up around it instead of it being thrown there, like with Eula's and build up with her and her uncle, specially since the game tends to put lore in events that lasted for like a week which forces the player to go to outside sources to learn something, like Scaramouche's first appereance in an event with name I forgot

I hate how he think that Tartaglia story quest is about getting Teucer a toy Tartaglia story quest is good, because it directly show us why they describe the character as unpredictable. Literally, every mention of him talk about how is personality often seem to do 180° which is exactly the contrast they did between the Archon Quest, and the Story Quest. It also show us that Tartaglia isn't good or evil. In fact, he doesn't even seem to have a notion of what is good or evil. He is a true neutral, fighting because that what he is born at, protecting his brother because he believe that it's his duty, and serving the Tsaritsa And that why he never asked for a redemption

I've only seen a couple of Brand's videos and he never stuck out to me as a good content creator. He's kinda mid, just like most of his takes in that video. Genshin desperately needs a skip button for all quests, because some people have reading problems and some just don't care. This is an rpg, not a visual novel. Honkai Impact has a skip button for all the story chapters and events. Sure, you might not collect some cg's, but you can always go back and replay the chapters. They won't disappear, unlike with Genshin which doesn't even have a cutscene gallery. I'mma be honest, I dropped Genshin a year ago because I kept having so many problems with the game, especially with the story. Inazuma was such a chore and I entirely skipped Raiden's 2 quests and Ayato's. I just couldn't care about these 2. That included Kokomi. I love Kokomi, but dear God, her quest was such a disappointment! It felt like a repeat of Jean's story quest. The last time I genuinely had fun with a story quest was with Shenhe. We got to learn a lot about her, there were many entertaining moments not just with her but with other characters and I just had fun. I also haven't played Sumeru arcon quest because I was just so done with Genshin. I did actually watch a playthrough of it and it didn't disappoint me, in fact, I kinda enjoyed it, but it's not enough for me to come back to the game. I stopped playing after the Lantern Rite festival with that cutscene where Hu Tao sang badly in English and only engage with Genshin through analysis videos, like yours and some gameplay through Jeikage, cause he's actually honest.

I remember watching that section of the stream and thinking to myself, “Man I hope Tao makes a video responding to this.” Then you uploaded this video. W. Honestly, it feels like Bran made some negative assumptions by the beginning of the video and those kinda just carried throughout the reaction. But hey his job is to shill hoyoverse at any possible moment so….

42:47 Actually, I started Genshin in like the end of the 3.5 and I got all of the quests done and I did caught up with the story and the exploration. I really enjoyed it.

I usually upload archon quest and story quest content walkthrough for fun, (lowest quality walkthroughs lol) but mann when I record most of the story quests, most of the time I was bored... and pretty much I am not at all getting views lol, I lost motivation to record any more story quest walkthroughs and started to focus more on the content such as abyss and other game stuff which is actually giving me some views lol and I really enjoy making them... (finally learned my lesson) Personally my favorite story quests are Neuvillette, Xianyun, Childe, Zhongli (both acts) and Raiden (act 2) and hoping they will cook well with upcoming characters...

The problem is, the moment Bran said "I don't fucking believe you just said Yae's story quest is bad", he already went into your argument ab out the quest with a negative mindset. Look, I've got nothing against the guy, I really don't, I used to love his content, especially when he was reacting to a lot of Mujin's videos (great guy btw, check him out if you haven't), but I can't help but feel like he's being way too biased when talking about Genshin and refuses to acknowledge a lot of opinions people have. I feel like he's often living in his enclosed Genshin bubble where very few things are bad about Genshin, so when he faces someone who criticizes the story he finds so perfect, or when someone talks about Genshin drama, he starts talking like the person he's reacting to is insane, and the problem is that he even has these issues with his own chat.

Oh man I'm barely an hour in and I have so much to say already. Brad's mentality about rewards and the state of Genshin is really egregious. I've seen him pop sometimes but most of his stuff regarding Genshin is just him doing Try Not to Laugh videos and barely anything concerning the game, kinda like with Doro where most of his stuff are stream highlights. Anyway, for him to make a really poor attempt at diminishing the issue, as well as attempting to discredit you as someone who "may not even play Genshin that much" so he can ignore specifics and agree with the superficial stuff was so annoying to watch and listen to. Brad is insisting that people play Genshin for different reasons so not everyone has the same issues. However, those who are there for the story had to wait 3 years for it to start becoming interesting, and even then it's still getting spoon-fed by Paimon since we can't still talk. Those who are there for the lore don't even have everything in-game cuz why would you since it's all in the Wiki, other than dialogue that kudos for them to not skip and record. Those who are there for combat have been exceptionally fu-cked by Hoyo since the very beginning. Those who are there for the exploration aren't even getting that rewarded, since you can 100% all areas, but there really isn't anything new to do there, nor is it as satisfactory since the rewards, again, aren't great. The Narzissenkreuz Quest was absolutely phenomenal with a mix of both story and exploration, but by the end all I got was a cool boss I can't go back to and challenge once again just for the sake of it, and a sword that's like the 3rd or 4th reskin of The Flute even though I was told by the characters that is capable of a lot of cool sh-it. If someone were to tell me that they installed this heavy-ass adventure, open world, RPG, gacha game, just so they can pick apples and cook all dishes, or that they only want to play the sh-itty card game Hoyo made cuz they refuse to make us happy, I would do nothing cuz those people don't exist. I refuse to believe someone isn't playing Genshin for the story or the world. So, this dude is telling his audience, the Genshin community, you, your audience, and me, that the best way to fix the issues of Genshin, is by not playing Genshin. Like, you are not allowed to criticise a game you love and spent hundreds of hours, and maybe even cash, you cannot ask for the developers of a multi-billion company that, had it not been for Genshin they would've remained in the trash, for better ways to stay engaged with the game you love and feel somewhat appreciated for the time you've endured playing, because it's free and said company made a "better game" so why don't you shut up and play another thing instead? Neither Europeans nor American have finished to understand the concept of a gacha game yet they are eating it without question. I guess I can't expect much from a British.

Its not an issue to witness a neat story quest though, if what we want is to witness past events from the characters then there already are solutions; Neuvillete's and Shogun Quests show this with the water memories and the ley lines respectively. Besides, for a quest to explore the past of a character theres not much of a need to witness it, the plot can happen around the consequences steaming of a choice/situation/event that the character went through in the past.

Well I just wrote a really long comment about this and then accidently hit a button on my mouse which refreshed the page. I hate everything. I guess the TLDR of that comment was: (I have watched Bran for a while.) I agree more so with Bran about the Lantern Rite rewards controversy. I don't care about free rewards. I want better (and harder) in game content. But I agree with you about the story quests. Story quests as a whole shouldn't exist because the concept is flawed because Genshin's characters can't develop. Not everyone needs a story quest. Only the ones that were good even deserve to exist. (Neuvillette, Dehya, Childe, Itto etc.) It would be better to have more things like archon quests and limited time events (there's a reason people like these stories the most) where multiple playable characters interact with each other and have their personalities bounce off one another. Like a TV show or anime. Occasionally have focus on one character over the others if it's warranted in the story. Usually that happens because they are receiving character development. More archon quests interlude's please! Edit* your red ley line idea yes yes yes yes please hoyo

To expand upon the red ley line idea. Imagine if it wasn't just for story quests. Imagine if we could play through past historical events. Imagine we could play though the Archon War. Play through the Cataclysm of Khaenri'ah. Hell Honkai Impact even did this by letting us play through the 3rd Honkai Eruption (Hence the name Honkai Impact 3rd for those who don't know)

Here's a hot take. I played HSR up until like Imbibitor lunae was released and did the story till then, I dipped out of the game because I really did not like it's story telling and I genuinely think that xianzhou luofu story was ass. In that aspect I do believe genshins story to be better. Side note: I really loved sumeru and didn't enjoy the fontaine story that much compared to it, fontaine considered the traveler as a complete nobody. He(or she) didn't provide much of anything in terms of combat and only existed there as a way to sometimes utter a few words from their mouths that frankly had no impact on the story.

well from my personal opinion (just sharing and correct me if I'm wrong) because these dramas are from the difference rewards between hsr and genshin, it's just feels like we're on a loophole. because if we go back again, hsr is very difficult games and "generous" rewards is meant to help players in order to can keep up the contents, and it's not just "generous" thingy. on the other side, genshin is very easy game compared to hsr, because as exploration, open world games, genshin has more style of playing the game or ways to survived the game (at least on open world bosses/mats domains). so the conclusions, based on my personal is : both hsr and genshin rewards isn't meant to be "generous". in other way is for "help" players a little bit, just a little bit. sorry for yapping through text, these is my personal thoughts. so if i may need a correction or just want to share your thoughts, feels free to share.

ok this take is confusing because i keep seeing people say that : gi is a much harder game because you need to dodge and do some elemntal reaction and all that thing, meanwhile in hsr you just need 4 character and press the auto button (which can only work if you have a godlike relic and pray that the ai doesnt waste the skill point)

@@jabermogwai5996 aah yes, the relics are same with artifacts in gi which is very hard to find. I understand your confusion, both has their own difficulties which you can decide which one you more comfortable to play with, for example : 1. genshin has some overwhelming mechanism and need players to actively control their characters to dodge, hit even do elemental reactions. also players can freely choose less effective/silly team composition as their wish and won the battle even it takes time(as long as you good at dodge, you'll rarely need a healer), nor just with godly artifacts. 2. hsr does simple mechanism than genshin, and has auto battle system which is pretty helpful. but as a turn based-RPGs game, it's sure need more strategy to manage dmg, buff/debuff to survived. hope it's help
