    This movie came out (and I saw it on the big screen, by the way) in 1968 -- the same year that "2001 - A Space Odyssey" came out. But this movie had a way groovier theme song.

    The song is the _only_ good thing about this movie, which is only 'good' when viewed in a 'Movie For A Saturday/Sunday Afternoon' type/frame of mind.

Which honestly in a way disappointed me, I wanted a camp fest with loads of alien carnage! But the film was still very entertaining just the way it was.

    While I agree with you overall I think there's a little nuance to be understood. Movies aren't universally bad now, it's just that you've outgrown the silly, campy, immature stories that entertained you as a kid. What's worse is that as adults we can predict all the beats and plot twists because Hollywood just keeps rehashing them.

The IMDB synopsis: A Chinese general goes berserk and has a system of tunnels dug all the way from China to USA, under the Pacific Ocean! Wherever there is an important military base, he places atomic bombs. US Navy soldiers go underground to repel the invaders. Great 'B' schlock.

    According to Wikipedia (yeah, I know) the MPAA ratings system went into effect the same year this movie came out (1968). And at that time, the ratings were G--suggested for general audiences, M--suggested for mature audiences, R--Restricted - persons under 16 not admitted, unless accompanied by parent or adult guardian and X, persons under 16 not admitted. In the 70s, M was changed to GP, which then changed to PG in 1972 and R was changed from under 16 required an adult to under 17 required an adult. PG-13 came along in 1984 (heh) and in 1990 X was changed to NC-17. So, basically the ratings system at the time of this movie's release was a beta version and has been revised several times since then. source: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Motion_Picture_Association_of_America_film_rating_system

    This film is like a story line that could be used for one of the alien movies :) I’ve ordered this on Blu-ray, I’ve always had a soft spot for this film, even though the creatures look silly, they still bring a sense of danger to the film

    Wow, the "William Finger" actually IS the guy who co-created Batman with Bob Kane. He also co-created Green Lantern, according to Wiki. And, the producers actually did intend for this to be a sort of sequel to "Wild, Wild Planet" and "War of the Planets".

    I have vague memories about seeing this movie on TV as part of a "creature feature" on Saturday afternoon when I was just a kid. I never knew the name of it, but I remember it because it scared the crap out of my 8yo self at the time. I didn't remember that catchy song though! How did I not pick up on that?

    Fun fact: this movie was a source of inspiration for Tom Wham. He worked for TSR in the early days as a game designer and writer for Dragon Magazine. Anyway, he created Awful Green Things From Outer Space and cited this as an inspiration in the designer's notes.

    when I was a kid, I saw a movie ( or an episode of a antology series, who knows) about an astronaut stranded in a planetoid/asteroid, and made prisioner by a ciclops-like creature similar to the greenslime monsters. I have been looking for it for ages. the aestetic is similar to this movie but dont seems like it. I remember the creature spoke to the astronaut and could use his mind to keep his spaceship from launching.

    If you recognize Elliot, it's because Richard Jaeckel also played Sergeant Bowren (the MP always accompanying Lee Marvin) in The Dirty Dozen.

  • @henrygvidonas9573
    @henrygvidonas9573 Жыл бұрын

    Richard Jaeckel was in legitimate classics like "Sands Of Iwo Jima", "3;10 To Juma" (semicolon to avoid an unnecessary time code), "The Dirty Dozen", "Pat Garrett And Billy The Kid", "Chisum", and "The Drowning Pool"... ... and in "Green Slime" ...and on "Baywatch" as two different characters. He was in the pilot, then came back for the rough first few _"budget provided by product placement, because NBC cancelled us after the first season"_ years. Oof! What a weird career he had. 51 years as a working actor, in an industry where a lot of people don't last five years - or even six months.
