Please. Do. You know that meme that says something like "Godzilla has to go so you can't see the depths of his loneliness"? Producer Shogo Tomiyama more or less said that was canon to the character. Seriously.

A friend from my Livejournal days (I'm old) mother was an actress/dancer in the 50s. She appeared in several B-movies as one of the 'space women on another planet'. The one she remembered most was "Fire Maidens from Outer Space." My friend kept telling her mother she should be going to SF and movie cons to tell stories; she could get a free trip and hotel stay : D Her mother had crazy stories but couldn't believe anyone would want to her hear them.

Brandon that’s a UK poster so the X was normal for the time! In the 50s and 60s, it was par for the course for monster movies, no matter how cheesy they may seem now, to get an X in UK. But it meant no one under 16 could go see it. The X was abolished and replaced with 18 certificate in ‘82 precisely because of the stigma porn placed on the X as a symbol. Great review as always though, man!

Super cool review as always, plus it furthers the theory that 80 percent of all grinders are metallic blue. The hi-pitched noises in this movie scared me as a kid, along with the ManBearPig's huge scary face after they blind it, and even with color, it's got the spirit of B&W sci fi.. but when it comes to the survivor account format, I think Matango did it better~

In high school I found a book with the same name and read it. It was about going to Mars but it was the plant monster that was the intelligent life forms: all martians were different types of plants and that particular one was the enemy and it did try to eat one of the humans as it was from a carnivorous species but the human was rescued at the last minute. Then some disaster struck and they had to leave. They did try to bring one of the friendly plants back with them but it died due to the G forces of the lift off. It seemed to be a children's book as no humans died in it.

The tv announcer seen earlier in the film did the voice-over for the Martian. The "deep" voice is merely his voice slowed down in the re-recording process. If anyone cares.

Brandon, this movie was made in the early '60's, _not_ the '50's. And the reason TV was still black and white then was because color sets were still a novelty then ( with only one or two shows in color, like _The Adventures of Superman_ and _Science Fiction Theater_ [each show was in color for one season.]) Other than that, great video.

    1) I usually think Brandon oversells the whole male chauvinism thing in old movies, but even I cringed when the highly-educated Biologist/Astronaut gets off the rocket and the guys in the contol room shout, "Look, it's the girl!" instead of calling her Iris or Dr. Whatshername. Hey, old movie characters! You want feminism? Cause that's how we get feminism! Gee thanks fellas! 2) Aaaaah! Virtual...Boy...headache......incoming!

Did anyone notice that the ship's computer was provided by the Burroughs Company. Burroughs B205 hardware has appeared as props in many Hollywood television and film productions from the late 1950s. For example, a B205 console was often shown in the television series Batman as the Bat Computer; also as the computer in Lost in Space. B205 tape drives were often seen in series such as The Time Tunnel and Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea.[15] Craig Ferguson, American talk show host, comedian and actor was a Burroughs apprentice in Cumbernauld, Scotland.
