I kind of wish there was a brand that did its best to be sustainable without the fearmongering of clean beauty. I remember someone telling me years ago that they wanted almonds covered in milk chocolate, but that they only ever found it covered in dark chocolate. That they felt like the producer assumed that choosing almonds means the consumer is a health nut, and therefore wouldn’t want milk chocolate. I feel like zero waste brands make the same kind of assumption: wanting less plastic means you want fewer “chemicals” like no preservatives, or essential oils over fragrance. I think, and this video and comment section is proof, there is a big market for science-backed skincare in sustainable/eco friendly packaging.

Thank youuu!!! Oh my gosh it's so nice to see someone else with common sense lol! My husband is 39. He became a vegetarian just after his 11th birthday. In TEXAS mind you!! After his 18th birthday he became vegan and has never looked back. I went vegetarian 12 years ago . We always bitch and moan that not wanting to harm animals, doesn't mean that we solely want to eat mud and organic kale lol! We want yummy food like everyone else. You absolutely do not have to sacrifice flavor and taste to be compassionate! You can also be a normal human being that loves a good "cheat day" like the rest of the globe🙄😂

@@eveningstar8581 you expect sustainable brands that are labeled vegan and eco friend to not be sustainable and vegan and eco friendly. Essential oils are not sustainable. And there are many brands out there that are sustainable and vegan that their products are good for you and the planet. If I find such brands in Greece and they are US based, you can find them in US and UK and Europe. You can't expect a brand to be sustainable and harm the planet at the same time or animals. It's like saying I am a vegan that eats chicken daily.
I've researched so many brands who are Zero Waste and have the same issues that you do! I've searched for a deodorant/antiperspirant that doesn't come in plastic packaging, but all of the zero plastic options are also "Aluminum free!" Like, I just want a skincare brand that doesn't use plastic, has science based formulations, doesn't test on animals, and is eco friendly.

I worked at Boots when I was 21 and never bought the no 7 products because I thought they were overrated and too expensive. Then one day a colleague around my age recommended one of the products to me. I'm telling you, 6 years on and I have the BEST skin. Glowing. Nothing I've tried over the years agrees with me like no 7. I find the 'mature' creams too thick, but the early defence range is brilliant.

I agree, my MIL gave me some No 7 a couple of years ago (cosmetics and skincare). Their mascara and concealer are now my HG, and I cannot be without a No 7 night cream. I’ll use cleansers and serums from other brands, and I dip in and out of other brand’s moisturisers for day, but nothing gives me the same plumpness and glow in the morning than using a No 7 cream the night before!

I have seen No7 around for years & never felt very compelled to try any of their products. Even after working at Ulta for years & seeing how popular the brand is, especially with middle aged+ people. A few years ago I received their retinol serum as gratis & let it sit under the sink unused for a while. When I finally decided to try it out I was *shocked*. It is awesome! Felt like a dummy for sleeping on it for so long. Have tried other products & they are a bit meh but the regional is A+.

I just left another comment elsewhere, i don't understand why people don't like them! Their serums are great and it's for all skin and not just “mature”. Been using since my 20s. Misconceptions i guess but people should definitely try it!

Their retinol is the only thing of theirs I've ever used and yes, it's awesome. CeraVe does me for nearly all my other skincare needs 😂
The thing I love about Pacifica is the gaudy packaging. Oh well, I'm perfectly fine knowing I'm tacky af.
I absolutely love No7 and have done for years. They introduced a range for skin starting at age 25. That went up to 35 and that range had stronger ingredients, the 45+ had stronger ones again, then the 65+ stronger still. I have used No7 skin care and makeup for years and i always get compliments, for perspective I'm 35 and have been moisturisering since 18 and using anti aging since 25. Their serums, day and night creams, and their cleansing balm are staples to me ❤
I had the same view with No7. It's just the bog standard skin care and makeup targeted towards older people. However, I've been using their tinted moisturiser daily in place of foundation, and its beautiful. Not greasy, very light coverage, and the perfect tone for my very pale pinky skin. The only one I have tried that doesn't make me yellow or sickly looking
I appreciate your clarity when it comes to brands or product categories you don't use. Too often we've been fed this dogma of "I don't like this and you shouldn't either" so it's refreshing to see this awareness that what you don't like or aren't looking for in a product might work for someone else.
"Don't cry if I talk [sh*t] about one of your favourite brands, it's fiiiiiiine" hahahaha, love James

I use the no 7 hydraluminous water surge oil free moisturiser and its an absolute favourite for me. I used elemis, dermalogica, the ordinary, the inkey list and so many different brands but when my skin got quite sensitive a year or so ago (while also being combination) I had to strip down how many products I was using and how active they were, and I finally found this moisturiser and it was the only one that didn't irritate my skin and left me feeling hydrated and happy with my skin. No7 are interesting for doing quite a lot of skincare research. I find their marketing a bit insane though, they really try to create hype around their new launches by claiming you have to be on a vip list to get access to them first or something. There products can be £30+ but always have some deal on to make it feel like you are always getting a good deal. I also dislike their packaging, but I have found some of their products to be super effective.
I have been using No 7 Future renew, I’m 38, I have noticed a considerable difference in the hydration of my skin. I would avoid the day cream with SPF as it is greasy and doesn’t absorb into the skin, makes make up look awful.

I do have to disagree with the sunscreen powders- I’ve been using them on my babies and myself for 5 years now (on the face when we go swimming, or anywhere outside while sunny) and we never get sunburned - they really work and I don’t understand while they are getting this lash back lately. I swear by sunscreen powders (my favorite being the supergoop one)
Also, I've found the PERFECT product for Sunscreen over makeup that doesn't ruin the makeup whatsoever- Facial Sunscreen Mists. Privacy UV from Japan makes an excellent one I've been using for years after realizing there was no easy way to appropriately apply SPF powder.
Love No7 been using their cleansing balm for a while now and it makes my skin feel amazing after use.
I've used a No7 retinol + matrixyl serum and it's really good, I got it in a surprise bundle with lip products. Boots have their own bobby basic type brand that straight up has the boots name on it, that's now what you were describing as having known, No7 is way more separate now and they have some very hi-tech formulas going on. I actually do use the boots basic brand for their super simple niacinamide moisturizer cuz I don't have any money lol (and I like this one too), the basic brand also does a few retinol things but they don't post the %s which is so-so.
Can I say I am more obsessed about the Hello Kitty shirt that the beauty products? Where can I find it or see how it looks fully?
I just wanted to say that I noticed that the captions on this video are actually accurate, not auto-generated and difficult to understand. That's amazing ❤
Yes James try the nr7. Im super curios what your opinion of it will be. I enjoy their make up but haven't branch into skincare yet. Some of it is definitely on the more expensive side.
The worst culprit for skincare with gaudy, clashing colours is Trinny London. I CANNOT! 😬💜
I only recently considered buying No. 7 products to try. It wasn’t available for me here in the US as a teenager (now in my 30s), or if it was I never saw it anywhere. I’d be interested to hear your take on some of their products before buying. But I totally understand you’re reasoning for not wanting to use them.
I have used the No.7 serum for a couple of years and did like it a lot. Since 1 year I switched to Korean skincare and 1 Italian brand, Labcare, with amazing results 😊❤
I wouldve felt the same as you about no7 but the new rewind range is really good
Before my brain could process, I thought I had a dream where I watched this exact video last night. Then I remembered I did watch this video before bed when it was posted and this was reuploaded 😅 thought I was psychic for a second lol
I hear you about No.7 but their latest Future Renew Damage Reversal stuff is amazing. I would love to see you review it!
I want this shirt so much, i love it! ❤❤❤
Not that it's totally Zero Waste, but several Korean brands I use make solid "serums" which also serve as "balms". I'm particularly fond of the vitamin C ones. My favorites are: CETANA (which is a May Coop brand) Vitamin C Brightening Moisturizer Balm Stick, Missha Vita C Plus Ampoule Balm Stick and Intense Multi Ampoule Balm VITA C. These could very easily be made into Zero Waste products by putting them into recyclable paper packages and are very easy to spread onto one's face. CETANA also makes Multi Balm Moisture Booster "Anti Wrinkle & Moisturizer Balm Stick" and Balance Balm Calming Booster "Anti Acne Balance Tea Tree Balm Stick" that are both in solid form.
Wow james that shirt is adorable.
I’ve never tried No7 myself but I work at Ulta and it is VERY popular and looks to still be on the rise
I love ethique shampoo bars & have used them for many years now. It feels nice to at least reduce one products waste. I haven’t found skincare in zero waste that I really like. Especially with really sensitive skin, the cleanser often feel ‘squeaky clean’. Thats generally a sign my skin will get very grumpy.
I agree about pasifica except when it comes to the sheet masks. They are really calming and moisturizing.
James's skin is next level beautiful in this video 😮
I surprisingly loved the Pacifica Vitamin C wash though my skin is horrifically sensitive to random stuff. But all of it seems to be kind of same-y heavily botanical products. I do miss their lemon scented body lotion a LOT.
We should really try to move towards completely biodegradable Packaging. By using fruit leathers wax cardboards things like that it's up to the experts to figure out how to do that LOL but I think that that would be the better move because then you won't be able to contain the serums and moisturizers and such but not harm the environment
The No 7 serums are very nice. Plus their cc cream has a good color range with different undertones.
Love your top btw!!
I feel like Ethique is a company that's heading the right direction. They do a bit of the "natural" schtick, but not to the point that other companies go where they're anti-preservative and things like that. They also have hair and body care concentrates that you can combine with hot water at home to make liquid products. I really hope they start making skincare concentrates too!

@@amandak.4246 I'm not dissing the brand, I love their products. I'm just saying that they do some of the "natural" branding that other zero waste companies do, but it's not to the point where they're anti-science. But they do have stuff like a "free from" list on their website that every "clean" beauty brand has.
Hey James... I got bought a pallete with blush in and a horrible highter which I had no idea what it was as it was the 90s 😂 but iv never used No7 since then as iv always kind of seen it as boring and old fashioned but I'd love to see you give it a go nowadays James ❤❤❤❤
I agree about Pacifica, there was a BHA toner I actually really liked that was like blood orange or something and the packaging was purple lmao. But they discontinued it! I felt like it actually helped my skin. Other things I’ve tried just weren’t worth it though. And omg, as much as I love Glow Recipe and think the brand did the packaging and formulations beautifully, I’m so upset with them that it’s hard for me to actually buy anything now because they discontinued the ONLY moisturizer I could find that hit all three of my main musts in a daily moisturizer- hydrated my dry skin for the entire day, kept acne at bay and worked beautifully under makeup. Also, my skin looks so pretty when I use it every single time, it’s like it gives me actual life haha. I searched for years before I found it and realized it was holy grail status for me. Then I went to repurchase after going through two jars and it was just gone. I’m so sad about it that, as much as I love Glow Recipe, I’m so bummed and buying from them just makes me feel upset. I can’t tell you how bad my skin has been since I had to start savoring the rest of my jar and searching for something comparable because it’s hard for me to find a decent moisturizer… let alone the perfect one like the banana was for me! Trust me, I’ve even begged them to bring it back for a trial run because it looks like I’m not the only one who’s upset about it, but they just keep telling me to try the plum moisturizer. Which yeah, it’s nice but it pills like CRAZY on me and as someone who wears a full beat every day, I don’t want my skincare to pill… especially when there’s nothing else even on my skin, it still does it. Like they actually hurt my feelings like no other brand ever has discontinuing this because it was that amazing for what my skin needed and having to start from scratch has been so bad. I have some serious grievances about the banana moisturizer 😭

Try the ordinary nmf + beta glucan moisturizer!! It’s an incredibly hydrating gel formula that is perfect under makeup. And it hasn’t broke out my incredibly acneic prone skin. And don’t be dazed by how cheap it is! I’m an esthetician and incredibly picky with what I put on my skin and this formula is better than most professional brands!

I loved that banana moisturizer too! Why did they d/c that gem?! Nothing else like it 😢
Honestly N°7 is decent. I've used a few of their eyecreams and been impressed.
I have used no7 before and think it's been great and helped repair my skin
Watched this , this morning 😁
I keep my skincare & perfumes in the boxes they come in. We travel too much to unbox them. Plus I don't have a problem taking them out to use them. I love The Ordinary's packaging. Simple & it works.

Same! I do this as well for two reasons. Firstly because I know exactly what I'm grabbing when I'm looking for an exact specific product. When you have a few skincare products, they can so easily blend together! And as for my second reason, it may be absolutely absurd, but! To me it keeps my products fresher and more protected. Like from moisture, light, air, the whole nine. I also keep them in cupboards and drawers because I do my face in the bathroom.
I'd like to see a review of popular European drugstore brands, such as Bioderma, A-derma, Avene, La-Roche Posay, Uriage, SVR... I think they're all French?? They all seem very similar, would be nice to have them compared!
I feel the same about no7 however I've tried a few bits this past year (mascara & makeup removing balm) and genuinely really like them
I always thought sunscreen powder would be great to set your actual sunscreen with, like you would make up, so it isnt greasy. But ive never had the money to buy some and try it out and see if it would work.
I worked for benefit in a boots store for years. No 7 did amazingly well and the profit boots makes on the brand is unreal. The products don’t cost very much to make so yeh, that brand alone keeps the stores going! Because I was really into makeup at the time I saw no7 as frumpy as their makeup was rubbish. BUT I’ve heard they’re really leading the way in terms of technology, so I’m intrigued to try something!

Yes, no7 are doing big things in skincare, cutting edge technology & exclusive pepticology, I work for them & it’s a really great brand. It’s not just for older people either!
Boots actually used to own or have a part in Sephora. I watched a vid on Sephora and there rise an hour ago and it was a surprise, there’s a channel on KZread called under skin who do vids on makeup and beauty companies there really good
I like using the No.7 airbrush primer for my oily skin.
Walgreens literally sells No 7 kits for half off in December as a deal/gift of the week thing every year, along with Soap and Glory. I get an employee discount day as well so I’ll stock up the holiday kits and give them to friends.
I love Pacifica rosemary purify shampoo!! 😊
James giving glass skin vibes..... I'm so jealous 😍😍😍
I used to 100% agree w you on the whipped creams. Now that I've tried a whipped body cream, I still agree with you on certain aspects. The first time I saw the whipped body cream, the cottage cheese appearance threw me off. Tried it at the store and found it just as effective as other lotions/creams. I am a little heavy handed when applying it because it's so light, but I learned that I don't have to. Also agree with you on Pacifica. The packaging is sooooo cute and so enticing. They have so many different lines and the products are relatively affordable. Unfortunately, they're not that awesome or well-formulated - not bad, just not awesome either. The two different Pacifica sheet masks I tired stung my face, so no more of those. I'll finish what I have of Pacifica, but no need to repurchase.
ive had a hit and miss experiance with zero waste skincare, I have a cleansing bar and its amazing, it clears up my skin better than any other brand I've used, I also have a toothpaste from the same brand and it is awful, it tastes horrible and leaves my teeth feeling dirty. I've also used wild deoderent and it does not work, I sweat right through it every day despite their claim that it'll work just as good as an antiperspirant.
i NEED that shirt omg its so cute 💓
I LOVE Pacifica's body products. They just smell so good and I generally don't like much fragrance. I use their shower gel, scrub, moisturisers and sunscreen. I never consistently used body moisturizer until I started using Pacifica. And their packaging accidentally matches my bathroom decor. They are cheap and vegan/cruelty free. I do want to try to use less plastic in general. I feel like the Ordinary has a bottle recycling program? I've started using more household cleaners that are tablets that you add to water. That might be a possibility with some products like toners and cleansers. Maybe ever serums.
Just left Roberts video. Knew you had uploaded too! Makes me giddy to see you twins on this not so great Sunday! 🫶🏻❤️🕊️✌🏻
