When I was young (ages ago) I used to have a plastic model of the Tomcat, with indeed moving wings (manually!). Here we are and now you can have one actually flying remotely on EDF (not propellor driven), complete with remotely moveable wings. How awesome is that?!

I had the same model and remember dreaming of flying the model in it's actual size which now I don't have to dream as I have been flying rc helicopters since 01 and I'm just now getting into EDF jets I'm building a 1:72 F-15 Balsa kit which when I get some 40mm EDF brushless engine and Turbine fan with approximately a 35 Amp speed control with a 3 cell 1200 mah battery! My main plan is to get into carving foam blocks and actually using aluminum cans for the skin which will be in the 90mm classes and up to 120mm jets. I was the 1st to incorporate ccpm into the first Grey frame T-Rex 400 back in 03' when no one thought a helicopter that small would fly as great as I can fly them! I have 3 XK 130's 2 T-Rex 250's and an Avant FX Y, S 91 with Hatori SB-19 pipe which I'm getting the all aluminum Avant Flybarless head. I have the Avant Aluminum head which that helicopter was 5,000$ RTF without my 9Z Futaba world champion radio. Now I have the T10CHP Futaba 2 4 Gig and 72 Meg which I can use both 2.4 or 72 channels which is just as good now being everyone has 2.4 gig now all I need are alot of 72 HZ different channel crystals plus I'm going back to racing 🏁 I can't believe how cool it is to have so many dreams that have come true in my life. ❤️ 💪 😎

Nice flight Nate. I'm so glad that they included both a pilot and RIO figure with this model. There ought to be a law that if you make a model with a clear or open canopy you MUST include at least a pilot figure. 😊

The F-14 Tomcat is one of the truly awesome looking planes out there. As a kid, I built a model of it, twice. The first one came apart when I was flight testing it. They were not intended to be flying models. Didn't stop me. The second one I just kept on a shelf. Having a flying model with the full variable geometry wings is very cool...and can easily give you a feeling of Top Gun.

This will most likely be my 2nd jet being I'm going with the A-8 Crusader from motion pro. Then I'll get the F-14 and hand launch and land in high grass. So awesome that it has swing wing and with my Futaba I could incorporate a lot like tailarons and ailerons.

The Horizon Hobby Team flew a demo model at the Arizona Electric Festival back in February. It was pretty impressive for such a small model, and I know a lot of people have been waiting for it to actually release. I'm betting it sells out fast, particularly becoming available just in time for the Christmas shopping season. h

Nice review cool plane but looks like a handful to fly. If want an easier jet to fly is the f15 a better choice? Abby seemed to love the f15. Also these jets are hard to see do you recommend painting under wings red? The f15 may be easier to see as well?

I still don't understand the price > flying value but whatever works for you lol. Guess now you'll need to do a couple more videos seeing if 1) speed test is different for the wing positions and then 2) talking about how it flies differently (loops/rolls/turns) with the wings in different positions. Very cool jet!

I can guarantee that on a hot day the F-14 will take longer to take off because the air is less dense. Cold is more dense Hot is less dense

Yes, it is expensive for what you get (50% more than a similarly sized F15/F16), but at the end of the day, it is a Tomcat, and the wings actually sweep, and that will be enough for a lot of people. Possibly myself included. Kinda disappointed that HH did not include better servos for the tailerons, but the gear was the right decision. Retracts are just too heavy and fragile for anything less than a 6s 70mm.

I modded my Xfly-A10 with twin 50MM edf with retracts. It's a beast with the gear up. :) There is a video on my channel of it.

What battery can I use is it a xt30 or a xt60?

Really cool! Would you say it's a better plane than the 50mm Habu? I want a small edf, already have the UMX Mig and A-10 as well as the 64mm F-15. I know the Habu is a great jet, but this is an F-14 after all, it's way cooler.

Different jets altogether. 50mm habu is a 3s jet. F14 is a 4s. For raw power f14 is better. For easy flying habu is better. I love the habu, don't know how the tomcat is gonna fly. Will bw interesting.

Forget this. Its overpriced. Get the Xfly Su27 twin 50mm. Faster and can hold much bigger lipos than just a 2200 4s. Plus it's 2/3 the price of this

They all are cool in their own way, I would get them all if I could, probably in time, the SU-27 is indeed cool as well. But I did just realize, the Habu is the only one that has rudder, I really want that as my F-15 has been a pain to line up for landing.

I just looked at the price which is 299.00$ which is insane being you can get a much better edf from Motion pro rc which is in the 70 to 90mm range 🤔 I guess you get what you pay for.

There is no space for that but you can buy the Freewing F-14 if you want retracts :D

This little guy looks good, but I’m gonna save the dollars and build the Flitetest Master Series F14.

These guys get these planes for free from manufacturers when they have enough views as it amounts to cheap advertising. I imagine most everything they review is given to them. Ridiculous to ask for them back after being reviewed and in used condition

This is a Skill Level 3 (out of 4) EDF RC. Horizon Hobby shows that a Skill Level 3 plane "requires experience" to fly. So this is not a trainer rc aircraft. The RC Saylors have plenty of videos for RC Planes that are a lot of fun, inexpensive, sturdy, and would be better to start off with if you haven't experienced flying.

Any idea why there was such a long delay? I ended up canceling my pre-order which is good because I think this one is a little outside my skill. I know Supply chains are tight but there must have been something else going on for it to get delayed for so long. Regardless I'm glad to see that it finally made it to Market.

I’m pretty sure it had something to do with the sweeping wings and just making sure they “got it right” which IMO is better than releasing a bad product. It was so annoying that they pushed back the release so far, but at least it was for the right reasons 👍😁😎⚓️
