I have never been happier as a boat owner until recently with my purchase of a Suzuki df200ap and having a reliable and skilled dealer nearby. Quiet & efficient from the start and I am counting on reliability down the line. Agree with others that not having a Suzuki shop local to you could be a deciding factor. Good video.

I’ve been rigging boats for 35 years and when you compare outboards you have to throw in the weight of the outboard especially with today’s four strokes. I also like to throw in the rpm max limits and gear ratios. Other than these few things it was a good fair comparison. Appreciate it.

Thanks for the VERY enjoyable comparison between the 2 best 4 stroke motors out. I went with the Yamaha Sho but if I had any hiccups in getting one I would have gladly put the Ss Suzuki on my new boat forsure. Got the 115 sho and might upgrade to 150 sho or ss in near future.

Good point about the lithium batteries. I’m running an Ionic 125 Lithium battery on my 250SS and had zero issues with charging the battery while running 4 12 inch graphs. However, I will randomly get some fault codes that don’t correspond to anything specific and quickly clear once started. But I had the same issue when running a group 31 AGM as well.

Runs like a Champ But , I would like to Run a New Suzuki SS on my STRATOS but , Unfortunately At this time Suzuki Doesn't make a V-6 200 Or 225 SS. I don't know if my STRATOS would handle the Suzuki 250 SS ? Anyway Great Brand Battle. Keep them coming 👍

I appreciate your reviews. Even if there is a slight bias toward Suzuki, I believe it is totally warranted. I bought a boat with twin 150 Etecs, and though they are good (start as soon as you turn the key, and that was after 4 months of sitting), I would still like to repower with Suzuki. The only reason I haven't done so yet is because I want a bigger boat, which will require more power.

I haven't seen one single Suzuki outboard on Lake Guntersville yet when I'm out fishing. Maybe in a few more years. Do see more of them now down in Orange Beach/Gulf Shores area. But Yamaha is still by far and away the outboard of choice for that area also. I'm still running my '89 Merc 135 double smoker! Powerhead replaced in '06, so probably getting ready for a rebuild shortly. 😁

I’ve had experience with both brands and honestly can’t go wrong with either in my opinion. I’ve had low and high pressure fuel pumps go out in the Suzuki granted I had that motor for 13 years but nothing yet on the Yamaha. I will have to say the torque I get from the sho is crazy good. I have a 18 ft G3 bay with a 90 sho and have found the perfect prop. I’m getting 47mph from a Powertech 19 pitch 3 blade prop and that’s impressive! Have you guys experimented with that brand yet? And I’m wondering if I could hit 50mph with a jack plate?

Would injectors dirty cause 07 mercury pro xs 250 to start climbing outta the hole slower ? Runs great good compression and all but I can tell a big difference. No prop changes either. Input shaft good. No. Play. I also heard possibly needing to adjust the WOT. But I can’t find exactly what that should be. Seems folks have different opinions. Any idea on where I could look. I've owned both, but I can't make a fair comparison since my Suzuki was OLD when I started with it. My current bay boat is Yamaha and I love it for reliability. It gets me to my fishing spot and gets me home every time. On the Chesapeake, that's the #1 priority. You lose an engine out here, your drift puts you somewhere in Europe a month later.

How many people comment stuff like “just got my Suzukis and love them, or 100 hours and I love them, Etc.. The REALITY is that come back at 400 hours, or higher, and see. Those Yamahas are WAY more dependable. And virtually ANYWHERE you go you will have a Yamaha service center, and you will be trying to find someone to work on Suzuki’s. Also, in the resale market, (and everybody eventually finds themselves here, come on you know) the Suzuki’s KILL the resale value of your boat. So this is not to say that Suzukis are a POS, they aren’t, but you have to be real. The little bit of money you may save in the beginning…there’s a reason for that, it will come back and haunt you on the resale market. Think.

You say you done a lot more gear casings on the SHO vs the SS. Well that’s not really fair at all cause you don’t work on NEAR as many SS’s vs SHO’s. Suzuki biased I see and I’m sorry but the SLOWSUKI is 1990’s boring! There’s nothing to that motor so how can it look better?

  • @TeamMarineService

We dont work on many SS gear cases because they do not break at the same rate the SHO's do. If you were to look at the size of the gears themselves and the prop shaft you'd understand. That's why they give up 1 or 2 mph to Merc and Yamaha but in reality you can fix that with propping and set up.

Small suzukis, 25-30hp (ish). Have you seen or heard from any longevity issues with the aluminum con-rods? I haven't heard anything, I am not trying to cast a doubt or smear. Just curious, as the use of aluminum conrods surprised me.

As long as Suzuki doesn’t use there street bike technology they will be a 3rd class engine. The only way Suzuki could sell motors is to offer to dealers is to sell them engine at HP lower price. That being 250hp at 200 hp price. And so on down the list. Honda and Suzuki will never be close to the big two. When you have to under price your product to get it in market you have a big problem

SHO for the win. But if you want to go slow, don't buy the SHO. 250 SHO has more horsepower than the Suzuki, and a better gear ratio(1.75) in the lower. Might I add that the new Suzuki looks outdated. Keeping it real.

@@TeamMarineService Can the Suzuki 250SS ECU be flashed? Any 200, 225, 250 SHO ECU can be flashed to make an estimated 320-330 hp. for only $700.00 more. That, sir, is the elephant in the room.
