Brain retaining has helped me too, though some are dubious at best. Being aware of how getting stressed about symptom flares keeps the nervous system activated is helpful and has turned my crashes into dips. Also, taking the pressure off myself to get better quickly has improved my capabilities quite a lot.

I'm using ANS Rewire + The Vagus Nerve Program by Jessica Maguire/Nervous System School. I'm definitely someone that needed a lot of physical support and strategies, and brain training has been a much smaller part of the process for me in terms of "positive thoughts" because that wasn't necessarily my problem. I never did body scans or even worried about my daily symptoms- I just pushed til I crashed, and tried to live like I was totally normal. I was in denial or just ignorance, my mentor says! (But doctors didn't listen to me for years, it took about 13 to get diagnosed!) Even though I didn't have these negative thought cycles, generally being triggered was a big, big deal for me. I had nightmares all the time, was super hyper vigilant, and had social anxiety without realizing that's what it was. I also feel like rebuilding our brain physically is key, so mindfulness meditation has been big for me (reducing the amygdala and building the PFC, etc) as well as things that help remap the body and build the sensory and motor cortex, like foam rolling. I'm not healing quickly like in so many interviews, and I'm in a pretty huge backslide right now, but still ten times better than I was before I found all these resources and committed my time and effort to them. When I first started I watched a recovery interview every day. ❤ Thanks for being dedicated to this channel and sharing the possibility of recovery.

Thank you for sharing!!! What you wrote is my last 15 years. Self gaslighting, medical gaslighting and pushing till crushing in total denial. I watch free lessons from ANS Rewire and today is the last one. How do you like the program? I did Curable for my pain and it was huge help but now that i finally realised the pain was just that one visible component i am trying to understand should i try new program or stick to what i already have paid for. I have DBT skills course, Rewire (somatics) and Curable, read the book by ANS Rewire guy and can also see the therapist... That's why i ask 😅

@@sofibregman4671 seriously, isn't the self-gaslighting the worst? Amazing to come out of it though. It sounds like you're on the right track, honestly, I love ANS Rewire because of the science-backed basis of it. It helped me to go "Ok I'm seriously ILL," because some brain training makes it feel like it's in your head. Dan is very clear about not lying to yourself about your symptoms and working toward recovery in a multilateral way. I also studied acupuncture and Chinese medicine, so the medical background information really matters to me. I would but it if only for the education it provides. It will give you solid support as you put together what works for you. I know it feels like we buy one thing after another to get better (and we do), but I personally needed ANS Rewire and Jessica Maguire's program. I have a complex surgical and medical history that I think creates other factors for me, so her program is helping me on a physical level where the thought processes of Dan's program weren't taking me any farther. Honestly, his program gave me back my sleep, and that is life changing. I also do the Curable app here and there, on Insight Timer I do the Biomedical Institute of Yoga and Meditation's meditations for neuroplasticity, and last year I was in therapy consistently. I also have a recovery mentor, Claudia, who's been in recovery interviews with Raelan and Dan. Dan says a mentor who's already recovered is probably the best thing you can get. ANYWAY haha that was long, my point is that yes, you're doing a lot, but I feel like it's necessary if it's calling to you and makes sense. 😊 also, after working with recovery efforts for seven months now, I no longer engage with the content really or recovery interviews, I focus on other things I enjoy. Like I'm painting for the first time in ten+ years, so art and comedy shows and books are all getting my attention instead of the serious vibe of illness and worrying about whether or not I'll ever be out of it. I still do ALL the things I've set up to recover and add where necessary, but now these other things are part of recovery. Hope this helps, I know it's a sea of info out here, and everyone thinks their answer is right.

I too would just keep going until i crashed not even knowing why I crashed was always told I was out of shape! The minute I feel okay I somehow think the crash is over and go grocery shopping, clean the kitchen then take a light walk and boom the next day I’m crashing. It’s so hard to give up caffeine when that was your only crutch! Not sure if this BT is going to get past my stubborn brain I’ve been doing this so long! There is some misconceptions about ptsd and cptsd. The main misconception being it’s not about the trauma or pain itself, but that we were alone with that pain with no help to regulate or process it at the time.

I am so excited to have found your channel. What is so sad is I introduced you and your videos to one of my many ME support groups and was attacked, my post and comments were removed. Unbelievable. I carry pretty much all 5 of the personality traits that now require brain retraining. My trauma and prolonged stress has been massive. One major problem I have is I have an adult son who has a mental illness. He is homeless, missing or in jail. I also come from a highly Narcissist family. I am the black sheep, Empath. My step dad has weaponized my son. He will help, Mark, my son, and then drop him in some horrific way. Putting his very life in danger and mine. I have gone no contact with my family of origin and it is helping. My son won't speak to me as I was bedridden and broke when he needed my help. No one has even tried to explain my situation to him. I have had ME 18 years and am very alone in the world. I have ordered your book and Dan's on brain retraining. I finally feel some hope. Thank you so much for what you are doing❤

@@multiversomental6893Probably because too many people don't want to hear that, though we feel the symptoms in our bodies, they originate from the brain. They see this as saying 'it's all in your head'. Which is clearly not what is being said. These people probably won't recover any time soon, because they refuse to accept how powerful our brains are, and how much what we think affects our bodies.

@@multiversomental6893there are some very toxic groups out there, where they censor any mention of brain retraining, or recovery. They'd rather keep as many people as possible stuck with them in "boohoo poor me" land. Scientists studying CFS have received death threats from certain activists. It's crazy. I've learned about it in Jan Rothney 's great book 'Breaking Free" ( about healing CFS and long cov¡d)

I have been using the Gupta programme for 3 years now and have improved greatly. Still not fully recovered but it has helped me manage living with the illness. Highly recommended. I have also just bought the curable app and am also finding that a useful addition to my tool kit. Good luck to everybody wherever you are on your recovery journey.

Evenings are for my long unhurried walks. Looking back, I can see how my walks have become less frightening, looking back I can see how much further I can go than what I could a few months back. I accept my imperfect situation, and that is helping me heal...i literally take one day at a time, and only now, my brain is allowing me to consider getting back to more involvement with life, people, friends, work...

What has helped me in the field of brain retraining is Prayer, Meditation to clear my mind, Meditation on certain Bible verses that speak of God and the Lord Jesus healing and the realization that God is indeed the source of everything including my healing. There is a wonderful book out by Chaplain Bryan Spoon entitled: "Neuroscience and the Fruit of the Spirit." It has helped me to be more calm, loving, joyful and at peace with my situation. I still reread certain information from Dr. Myhill's book for the physical aspects of her program of healing. Even Dr. Myhill in her book realizes that there must be some type of faith needed in order to heal. Thank you as always, Raelan, for being an excellent teacher, coach and one who encourages!! Hi, Raelan! I just realised, watching this video, that several times, a medical scientist person has told me that my pain, or the messages of danger going through my brain, were "just nervous signals" and I didn't ask, and/or they didn't say - what I or we could do about them! And: I've effectively been starting to do something like brain training already - learning to recognise when I was getting stressed, and trying to counter whatever was going on. So, yes, our inner healers are there, and rarin' to go! Many thanks for your videos - and keep 'em coming! xxx

Just read parts of The Mind Body Prescription last week in one sitting (easy to find what you are looking for). Healed 90% of my back pain issues that I’ve had for over 15 years and that became much worse since Long Covid and ME/CFS the past two years - by the next morning. I adapted my usual self guided meditation that morning a bit incorporating a brain training statement that felt good to me in the moment, which changes daily (not in the book, I just do this daily). Visualization added and it was mostly gone!! Sarno perfectly explains why osteopathic treatments for the spine and skull help me so much as well as the Perrin method. Now with that very specific knowledge, my brain knows exactly why I don’t need those appointments forever and I’ve already reduced the frequency of all holistic treatments!! 🎉❤ Still under an Ayurvedic protocol due to underlying health issues, which are helping a lot more now for ME/CFS and Fibro symptoms. Still doing EMDR for some CPTSD, but after reading the book and two major triggers (which are rare now) that same week, I bounces back very quickly with rewiring methods on the spot. That book (too soon to say this??) may have changed my life! Highly recommend! Fantastic video explaining all this, Raelan!

As long as one keeps perspective on the limitations of these practices, they can be very helpful. Cult members inflict these strategies to withstand abhorrent cultural practices. Don’t do that. Additionally, our eyes don’t actually “see” but send signals to the brain and the brain is what sees. That doesn’t mean the sick events that are being observed aren’t actually happening. Self-gaslighting strategies have long been best sellers in the self-help industry. All that is to say, use these strategies with caution. Don’t gaslight yourself.

This video is brilliant Raelan. I love the way you demystify the term brain retraining and address what is actually happening with the information/ interpretation process from our body to brain and back down again. Also really appreciate the pointers to free content. I think that is so important. I do wonder whether it is possible to implement successfully if someone is experiencing ongoing unsafe living conditions- they may not have stable housing or experience ongoing abuse or other scenarios that are stressors of living in a wider environment that doesn’t offer stability or safety. I’d love to hear your thoughts about these issues particularly given your training in Social Work. Loving the work that you are creating. I’m reading an amazing book at the moment that might interest others here about protection responses. It’s a deep dive into current science around persistent pain but is what you are describing here. Bodily Relearning by Ben Boyd (Noigroup). And I love the fact that she mentions more caution is needed to help people with ME/CFS - just the fact that it is addressed by a mainstream physio and so compassionately gives me a lot of hope and renewed conviction that this is the right path.

Thank you so much for this you tube. I’m currently slowly tapering off of a prescribed benzodiazapine that was prescribed for sleep. (Little did I know that drinking coffee after 2 pm can interfere with falling to sleep at 10 pm.) Anyway, does anyone here know if brain rewiring will help with the scary, debilitating symptoms during a benzo taper/withdrawal. When taking a benzo, the GABA receptors are down regulated and the glutamate neurotransmitters are over firing, which results in physiologically induced fight/flight/freeze. And over the several years of tapering & being in chronic fight/flight/freeze, I have developed POTS symptoms, histamine and food intolerances, low blood pressure, extreme fatigue alternating with extreme anxiety. Also, it would be great if you are going through benzo tapering and have had success with brain retraining or any other programs or tools. Thank you!

I loved this video. You were not dogmatic, doctrinaire or shaming. I am going to be 79 this month, and I have been sick all my life. At the age of 72, I was diagnosed with Ehlers Danlos Syndrome, which I had from childhood, but no one knew or understood. Always sick, weak and in pain, at 15 I also contracted rheumatic fever and was stuck in bed or a chair for 1 1/2 years, after which I had no support. Just thrown back into full-time activity. I never seemed to recover. I have tons of conditions, including chronic fatigue. But I don't ever want to give up. I keep doing things, working with my mind and trying to exercise, but everything has backfired. I am allergic to medication and reactive even to acupressure and things like that. Some years ago, I had a chi master who worked with me for two years and brought me to some semblance of well-being and energy. Then he left the country and I crashed back to what seems like perpetual zero. I had a dream last night about brain training, and now I find your channel. I am myself an intuitively-guided counselor and help a lot of people -- plus I have to work for income. But I need guidance and help myself. I will continue watching your videos and others, and I thank you. Thanks for being there.

This was useful. I found your channel recently and although I am not diagnosed with chronic fatigue or ME, I've become interested in this idea of brain retraining. My symptoms are mostly back pain at the present and I did find Dr. Sarno's first book helpful. I'm a firm believer in the mind/body connection and have done a lot of work with The Emotion Code, and EFT (tapping). Are these considered the same type of methods as "brain retraining?" I have not heard any mention of them on your channel or the other "brain retraining" channels. Ben Ahrens made the distinction between emotions and neurology, which I found quite puzzling. My understanding was that when we change our emotions, the structure of our brain also changes. See Dawson Church and Bruce Lipton. Would you bring some of those people on your channel? Thank you very much for your work and enthusiasm.

Western medicine has a lot of catching up to do. Also I definitly recommend reading the Dune books haha.

I am a proponent of brain retraining and I use it for healing, and I want to add, contrary to what's said in the video, that in my opinion me/cfs is not based in psychology. Sarno is outdated. The application can still be used, but explanation of stuck emotions is not correct. Nervous system dysregulation based illnesses like PTSD are not the same as me/cfs. Me/cfs is based in dysautonomia. Which is caused by infection induced trauma. Still, techniques of brain retraining work for me/cfs too. In combination with exposure therapy. And maybe some other factors like diet, depending on a person.

cPTSD is also based in dysautonomia as your ANS creates bodily symptoms. At least the kind of cPTSD that cannot be linked to a single traumatizing event. A major problem with ME/CFS is that we do not have clusters of patients within this group. If you have chronic fatigue because you have been floxed with Cipro, brain retraining is probably not going to work. A minority of people recovers with HBOT, which usually does not work for the CFS-subgroup that can use brain retraining to recover. And we still don't know if some people with LC actually have damaged brains and need another approach. However, brain retraining seems to be the most promising technique as we see way more recovery stories than with any other approach like anti-virals or supplements.

I would like to know if this helps even if you no longer notice psychological distortions. As she was describing thought distortions and maladaptive response to symptoms, I don't currently notice having those. I wonder if some of what is happening can be below consciousness, more in the autonomic nervous system rather than conscious thought. I hope it is. I'm researching to see if I want to try this, but I don't think this is for me if it only works to changing conscious psychological processes.

Question… After getting a pretty mild, intolerable case of Covid, two years ago, I’ve been left with a myriad of strange symptoms, and I believe it’s because of the emotional stress from Covid itself. Auto immune gastritis. Pernicious, anemia (which is B12 deficiency) Gastro paresis(slow motility) interstitial cystitis (bladder pain) and now neuropathy in my hands and feet, along with muscle twitching and calf tightness. Most everything has become mild and tolerable but now the neuropathy and muscle twitches are new. Vitamins and lab work are all normal. Neurologist said my MRI is fine so no chance of MS. I assume this is just all part of the chronic stress from the past few years. I haven’t been in any kind of worry state for the past month. I have excepted that my symptoms are from stress and I can go on with life with joy. However, the year long neuropathy doesn’t seem to go even when I’m happy. Do you find that sometimes it just takes a long time for certain conditions to heal? I was hoping that this month of letting everything go things would start to dwindle, but it’s not. And can I also assume that most auto immune conditions are from chronic stress?

Really confused/conflicted by this approach vs. a physical understanding of my health problems. With the brain training approach part of it is accepting that your symptoms are caused by your brain and knowing that is a part of the healing process... but what if in that process you are overlooking/denying serious physical causes to your illness. I have heavy metal and mold toxicity and now long covid as well, but I also have been dealing with lifelong anxiety and depression so I'm trying to work on the mental approach. The brain training and physical approach seem to be in opposition to each other -- they don't seem like they can coexist?

Nothing changed for me of all treatments and intervention until I start doing work retraining (on top of dozen other elements that recovery is made of but brain retrainig created the tipping point). Once the nervous system is regulated again (brain training -neuroplastisity) the body knows how to find its way to homeostatis and will know how to deal even with a load of envrimental stressors as mold (of course reduce whatever is in your control). I wonder why no one uses the term psychosomatic.

  • @jim8779

    @jim8779

    11 ай бұрын

I think a big reason is, some people think the term "psychosomatic" means the symptoms are all in the head and not real. Which is not what the term means. It just means the symptoms are being created by the brain. They are just as real as any symptom that is caused by the body, like a broken leg or a bad flu. In fact, the reason the flu causes symptoms is because it activates the "sickness behavior response" in the brain. Which causes aches and pains, fatigue, malaise etc.
