I met writer Pat Proft about 13 years ago, and being a huge fan of Brain Donors, I asked him so many questions about it. He was very generous about sharing his thoughts about it. He is very fond and proud of this film, and I could sense that he was more than a little upset that it bombed so hard. He said that he even planned a sequel for this, until it flopped. Great analysis!

He was absolutely brilliant in this, this was one of my favorite comedies I have ever seen. I was in sixth grade and we came across a vhs copy in late 1992/early 1993. It was not that old at the time which was surprising to already find it on vhs. From the moment you are introduced to ambulance chasing attorney Flakfizer it is off to the races with a machine gun barrage of one liners. The prop master Jacques and gambling taxi driver Rocco make for a powerful comedic trio. We quoted this movie incessantly and most people had no idea what we were referencing . Still holds up to this day.

The final ballet scene and the destruction of the vile leading man has to be one of the most tear-inducingly howlingly funny things I've ever seen, and I would say that for me, certainly, it even beats its spiritual inspiration's climax. Night at the opera is classic, but the whoopee cushion joke, the dogs on stage and more never fail to reduce me to inarticulate hoots of glee. 100% worth watching.

My friends and I worshipped this movie, one of them got a hold of it on vhs in 1992 not long after it’s release. We would quote the movie constantly and people would look at us like , “what the hell is that from?” I thought we were the only ones who loved this film. We were in sixth grade at the time. Turtoro is brilliant as the Groucho Marx character, ambulance chasing attorney Roland T. Flackfizer. He is literally a never ending machine gun rapid fire of one liners. Relentless, and many of them hit! Almost everything out of his mouth is an attempted joke, and he nails the persona. Rocco and Jacques complete the trio and provide hilarious support. An assault on rich snobs. Glad to know we are not alone in our love of this legendary film!!!!

I don't really write in youtube comments at all, but just a heads up regarding this movie: This movie was also edited by a person named Malcolm Campbell who was known for cutting other iconic comedies like both Wayne's World movies, a few of the Police Squad! episodes, Hot Rod, and Alex Winter's Freaked! (which has a reputation similar to Brain Donors in the way that it's an obscure broad comedy movie that should have gained way more recognition for being better than it has any right to be). I feel like the editor really helped contribute to the comedic pacing of this movie and is potentially one of the best comedic editors in history.

I agree, he is one of the greats. He also helped cut Animal House and Blues Brothers as well. That being said, I would love to see the 20 minutes that was cut from Brain Donors, as well as hear Ira Newborn's original score before Mark Mothersbaugh was hired to compose the theme and other cues.

I just recently found a copy on DVD and revisited it for the first time in two decades and was still chuckling to myself especially when they are trying to ruin the ballet. Still a good flick after all these years if a little unknown. Thanks for shinning a light on it.

Decided to go the movies, and I don't remember who picked this one, but it was great! Got it on DVD as soon as it was available, and watch it from time to time. My wife doesn't care for the slapstick joke-a-second format, but I love the hell out of it, so I watch it alone. Hopefully our son will appreciate it when he gets older. I rented this as a twelve-year-old on VHS. Watched it over and OVER and OVER, just adoring the gags with barely a notion of the Marx Bros at the time. I even remember seeing the trailer on TV! As this contemporary movie is more relatable, I actually like it a lot more than Duck Soup or A Night at the Opera. Everyone's timing is impeccable, Turturro with the hardest job in the Groucho-esque role. Hate that this only an *almost* cult classic and that it's pretty much forgotten. All my Gen-Xers out there ought to at least know about it.

Both my sister and I LOVED this movie, though, to the point that we rented it again multiple times and quoted the movie (especially reenacting "The Lion Sleeps Tonight" scene in the jail) regularly. I only saw Night At the Opera many years later on TMC. Realizing the story was lifted so whole cloth from a pre-existing beloved property dinged my appreciation of this film a bit, but it is still a lazy day favorite. One of the first movies, as well, that I ever purchased on digital.

People didn't get most of the Marx Bros fast paced humor when it came out, audiences to this film were me and my VCR...and I watched it several times to get all the jokes... There are Jokes from MX Bros, Stooges and A&C that are new to me or flew over my head for decades... Bless them and anyone trying to remake them or modernize them... Comedy and Horror are the hardest things to get solid reactions from...

I distinctly remember seeing this with my dad at the theater in the Galleria mall, St Louis, as well as a forgotten Sean Connery movie called Medicine Man. For some reason I always remember what theater I saw a movie at.

I saw this film when it came out on VHS in 1992, I was looking this film for 27 years, because I thought this movie was hilarious when I was a kid. But l finally found this movie last year, and I bought a digital copy of the film. Still funny after all these years!

I caught this movie on HBO in the early 90s. I was introduced to John Turturro. I've enjoyed his work ever since... "I didn't here you knocking..." "I've been using Exxon gas..." When I heard that line. I fell off my couch laughing sooo hard...

every time I see this series, i think of the movie Almost Heroes. Maybe because Hatsoff also did a Chris Farley tribute video, but I just love that movie.

I saw this in theater when I was a kid and it was the funniest thing I had yet seen at time. My brother and I were rolling in the aisles

The great Mel Smith. Only other role I imagine most of us yanks remember him from would be as the British desk clerk from European Vacation.

This would've been the perfect modern Three Stooges adaptation if the movie came out 20 years prior.

This may be the first I've mentioned something in the comments of a reviewer and actually had it done. So happy, even if I was just one voice among many. :) I love this movie so much, I even have a "Flakfizer is Ballet" tee-shirt. (Thanks, CafePress!)

I do remember this one. I did see a couple of trailers on TV for it. I was about 16 years old. I remember, because it was the month I got my Driver's license. I had it on VHS, but lost it, so I got it on DVD years ago, and I'm holding onto it.

I watched this a thousand times as a kid. Loved it. After seeing this review I watched it with my 8, 7 and 5 year old and they absolutely lost it. More than any “vintage” movie I have show them. A brilliant classic
