Im in total and utter shock over Brad giving a spot on analysis of this song. Lol. Thought this day would never come. Howard Jones IS a synth wizard, who was influenced by r&b and jazz, which is consistent across most all of his work.

How this cat got started making synth pop: "Howard used to give piano lessons. It is there he met Jan Smith, who he later married. It was whilst they were selling fruit and veg off the back of a van that a runaway vehicle crashed into the van, injuring Jan. She wasn't hurt badly, but Howard persuaded her to claim compensation. She used the money to buy Howard a synthesizer. The Shop delivered two by mistake and Howard liked the combination of the two so much, that he paid for the extra one. The shop knows him as "Honest Howard"!"

Her swaying is addictive to watch... you must listen to "No One is to Blame", which is a song Howard Jones wrote after seeing this beautiful woman who noticed him to and they both apparently were married, but that moment had both of them wondering "what if", but they never went forward with it because it was obviously would be inappropriate. It's a very deep and contemplative song.

Classifying these 80s songs. I played in a rock band in the 70s. Fun to play. But really dark lyrically. In the 80s. Neutral lyrically. Just fun music. Dancing with a lady. Just a blast. 80s music was just made you smile.

To me, this is exactly 80’s…..we had a LOT of variety….we knew who the singer was of any new song we heard because everyone was distinct and trying to sound unique rather than trying to be the same. Each band and artist had their own sound, most music had ‘tunes/melodies’….it was a special time. :-) The big thing was we didn’t care what songs were about (or try to work it out), their feel and sound was everything!

In this episode of Brad & Lex, Lex shows a young birds curiosity as her "Couch Gang" hat logo darts swiftly in all directions until her surroundings become familiar. "Woh Woh Woh...." -uh oh Hey Mikey....Brad likes it based on the flashing of the pearlies and the awakening of his signature "side to side sway" that leads to a Mama Lex reference and a shockingly rare glimpse at Brad performing a "sitting two step double snap groove" move. He will revert back to his original form as Lex releases consistent glide like "bops" complete with "snarl face" and "hula hands".

And if you listen to these folks in the comments to hear "No One is to Blame" then please do your best to hear the original album version rather than that stripped down corruption that they rammed down our throats until people forgot about the good version. Better to hear the deep cuts like Assault & Battery, Look Mama, Bounce Right Back.

I saw him at Canada's Wonderland around 85'. He got fined for the concert being over the sound limit regulations. It turned out it was us in the crowd singing back to him. I've never seen anything like it. What a moment!

Haha! 80’s were good times! I was in high school. How weird were we lol. Crazy hair and clothes and we were kids but we partied are asses off. We kept it low profile so we knew how to get away with all kinds of crazy shit. 80’s teenagers smartest kids Ever!! Lol

Howard Jones is a synth wizard. "Things Can Only Get Better" is his second-biggest hit in the U.S., peaking at #5 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1985. His biggest hit was "No One Is To Blame," which peaked at #4 on the Hot 100 in 1986, and featured Phil Collins on percussion. Those are his only two Top 10 hits, though "Everlasting Love" came close, peaking at #12 on the Hot 100 in 1989. If you want some pure Howard Jones synth-pop, give "New Song," "What Is Love?," "Like To Get To Know You Well" and "You Know I Love You...Don't You?" a listen. "New Song" is like 8-bit Nintendo music meets a Jim Henson fantasy movie theme song. "What Is Love?" has a darker, contemplative, downtempo sound with some interesting chord progressions. "Like To Get To Know You Well" has a simple chorus that makes you want to sing along when the harmonic vocals come in. "You Know I Love You...Don't You?" is uptempo enough that even Lex will have a hard time keeping up. Also give his 1990s hit "Lift Me Up" a listen. It has less synth, but more brass. He adapted very well with the times.
