Yeah, I don't see how Kym claims this is the only F1 movie when Frankenheimer's (Excellent!) "Grand Prix" is mentioned in the article he shows on screen. I was there. They sure did. I got a ton of pics of it. It was Wright Motorsports driving a 911 GT3 R. Pitt was there and waved to us. Plenty of extra. Lots of night filming on the night before the race. Pitt was certainly not driving in the Rolex 24 but some of the shooting was done during it. Professional drivers driving the Wrights Motorsports 911 GT3 R were in the race. The owner of the race team brought about 6 of these cars in case any broke down or had other problems so the filming would not be affected. We were guests of Porsche Motorsports so we got some of the scoop given that the film was driving a Porsche GT3 race car and working with a Porsche team.

In 1966 my wife and I appear for a flash in the grandstands at the bottom of Watkins Glen turn 1 while the movie "Grand Prix" was being filmed. As I recall, they mounted a large film camera on the hood of a Ford GT40 or something like that to get on track sequences. If you want to see what it really feels like, check out the downhill sequence of curves at Monaco that year from that camera's eyes. The movie starred James Garner, Yves Montand and many others of renown. Play it back.

I'm a big fan of John Frankenheimer's "Grand Prix." (1966) He filmed at the races throughout the season. Graham Hill, Richie Ginther and Phil Hill had speaking roles. And lots of the other drivers were visible on the grid. James Garner turned out to be so good at Bob Bondurant's driver training academy that he drove most of his scenes in the movie. Yves Montand and Brian Bedford were reportedly hopeless. Garner even occasionally drove the camera car (a modified Ford GT) and did his own stunt when his car explodes in flames-he got a serious neck burn as a result. Luckily, that scene was toward the end of the filming sequence or the insurance company was going to shut them down. Enzo Ferrari refused any assistance at the start of the film, but Frankenheimer quickly edited about 15 minutes of what they had shot and took it Maranello to show him. Once he saw it, Ferrari allowed Frankenheimer to use the Ferrari name and film inside the factory. Frankenheimer was in a class by himself when it came to filming speed-his other great car movie was "Ronin."

I commented earlier you should propose a photo signing deal with the film, where you do an onscreen deal with the driver(s) to show how these work and provide a little drama because you turn down the old guy for the new star driver or whatever. Maybe you tell Pitt "You're no Schumacher", and at the end of the film he sees you taking his photo after a win and you say "I knew you were good all along!" with a cheeky grin. You can then sell the real photo for charity, so it's a win-win for everybody. It would be great!

I actually liked the Driven movie as a kid. It was just fun to watch. I wasn’t looking for anything authentic just racing car action. And we got that. Lol.

You should get the role of the photographer who ends up being run over in the pits. You can have a Stunt man for that bit, your camera falls to the ground taking some photos from ground level of some suspicious under flooring of the car.

This is the second F1 movie to be filmed during an F1 season and featuring drivers of the time in the film at the tracks. The first was Grand Prix 1966, it’s a pretty good film. The off track stuff was kinda cringe, but all the racing action was well directed and fun to watch

Luigi Fagioli is the oldest driver to win a grand prix at 53 years old. Nineteen fifty one French GP. He is also the only F1 driver born in the 19th century. Brad Pitt is 60 years old. I like Brad, he could pass for 53. I'm glad Brad is making this movie. I hope it is because he has a genuine attraction to the sport, and not because he sees it's current and growing popularity and wants to cash in. I don't feel there has ever been a really good racing movie. Grand Prix, LeMans, Rush, Days of Thunder, and Winning with Paul Newman all have fantastic footage of race cars at speed. But as cinema none of them are very good. Oh, I forgot Driven. Never seen it. I hope this turns out to be a "good movie". I'm willing to overlook some stretches of reality if it is compelling and exciting. Kym seems to have forgotten the movie Grand Prix. The story I read is that the director, John Frankenheimer, went to Ferrari and asked for their cooperation and they slammed the door in his face. He put together some film of the cars he shot, and somehow got Enzo to watch it. After he watched it, Enzo told him he could have whatever access he wanted and to let him know if he needed anything else. I think that is a fantastic story.

Hopefully it contains Days of Thunder type scenes where Tom Cruise downshifted from 4th to 3rd and sped up from 200 to 400 MPH. Seems like if this were real the drivers would always just drive in 3rd. Or like scenes from Driven, where drivers used the race cars to drive around town or a crash scene where a car tumbled for miles through the woods. BTW sadly the most accurate American racing movies are Stroker Ace and Six Pack.
