Rita Coolidge did an excellent rendition of this song in 1978 . I remember hearing it played on the radio for many , many years.

Her voice was better suited for this song. And I love both versions. Both by Boz and Rita.

I don't think I've seen him react this much to a song. And well deserved.

Love Boz’s version. These words coming from a man are more vulnerable, more soulful.

That Album was so strong that "We're All Alone" was not released as a single. Three of the studio musicians that Boz used to record "Silk Degrees". Bass player David Hungate, Piano player David Paich, and Drummer Jeff Porcaro would form the Group "Toto", with Steve Lukather, Steve Porcaro and Bobby Kimball .

It later WAS released as a single....as re-recorded by Rita Coolidge.

@@Pixelologist He meant Boz did not release it as a single. Lowdown and Lido Shuffle were the 2 bid hits, but every song on this masterpiece was a classic. Georgia, Its over, What can I say, Harbour lights. Were all alone was the last track on the album. Coolidge covered it about a year later and had a hit. She also covered Jacki Wilson's Your love is lifting me higher around the same time and had a hit with that as well.

@@robmorrison1043 I know exactly what he meant. I merely noted exactly what you just restated - that the track was later re-recorded and released as a single by Rita Coolidge.

Loved seeing you two react to his unique and beautiful vocal delivery! I have been a fan of his since the early 70s, and still like to check in with “Lost It” and “Sierra”- great broken heart songs.

You can really hear the writers of Whitney Houston's - The greatest love of all was inspired by this one. Anyone?

DAMN! 100% AGREED...and I had never thought of it before (honestly, had never even thought TO think on it, to try to sonically seek out the possible musical inspirations for the song), but I knew as soon as I finished reading the sentence that you were right. I heard it in my head immediately, and I gotta say I salute you for catching it...although I will most likely never be able to "unhear" it when her song comes on in the future. Thing is...I like Whitney, but have never been extremely passionate about her in particular. That's probably the main reason I said I'd never even thought to seek out inspirations for it because I have the life history of being the one making exactly those sort of connections and then trying to make friends and family get as excited about hearing them as I'd get LOL (My mother has told me - and who knows who all else through the years - her story about the time I first heard ?My Sweet Lord" by George Harrison and coming completely unglued because "It's supposed to be the He's So Fine song!" and no ne else seemed to hear it or care and take me seriously about it. LOL. I was only like 4 or something and had no idea about their ever being a legal battle over those songs.) So yeah...from someone known for having a "good ear" for such things, I say to you: "Good ear!:

Here is the Rita Cooledge version. I think her voice is better suited for this song, but Boz Skaggs deserves all credit for writing this song and supporting Rita in her endeavor to make a huge hit out of it. kzread.info/dash/bejne/dZyCkqOtgsnWYdI.html
