She's right, ribs often do get injured during CPR, especially when you have to perform it for long periods or on kids who have small bodies. However, a few broken ribs is nothing when the patient is faced with death. If I were a parent I'd rather my kid come out with a few broken ribs and be alive than have no broken ribs and be dead.

ribs heal, like all bones do
@BreachOfData

Now, sometimes the actual bone of the rib will crack while doing CPR, but that's usually related to one of two things: Improper hand placement generally to the left or the right of the sternum. If you're not centered directly on the sternum, pressure from your hands can easily snap a rib or two.
That fact that his brother knows what he had to do before they got here Legend 🙏
That mum really annoyed me. They know what they are doing !!
looks like there will be a future paramedic!😂

Wish I learned something like that in health class. At least I know the heimlich.
Funny how in a tv show they can immediately tell it's a heart attack when in real life they would have to do certain tests to confirm it IS a heart attack
@gizzmowalliss

Did they even confirmed it was a heart attack and not something else wrong with his heart.
Doctors have to break your ribs when doing CPR in order to reach the heart and help it pump
Holy moly
that is a life learned lesson

Cpr is looking so fake. But yeah. Fact. Show your kids how to dial 911, teach them about first aid stuff early enough. Just them being able to call 911 will give them the possibility to send help. I refresh my first aid course every two years (that's kind of standard here in Germany if you wanna have the position of the first aid help at work here) and it just feels good to be sure I know what to do when there's an emergency
@quetzalcoa

Its extremely dangerous to do real cpr on people that don't need it, so shows don't risk it and do the really fake looking kind instead
@graememacleod4651
Жыл бұрын
@@quetzalcoa Exactly right. As the show implied here, real CPR can cause broken ribs and internal organ damage, even when done perfectly. Risking an actor's life for the sake of showing real CPR would be unethical, criminal and just not worth it.

Same goes for Canada, You can get your official licence when your in high school (Provided you get the right passing grade and did the physical test.) and almost all high schools made the unit for first aid mandatory to take. Additionally after that, you can get the Licence renewed every two years as its beneficial for work if an accident were to occur.

Pretty sure the paramedics have done rescues like that since season 1, and they respond to at least one fire/chemical/person-in-distress incident every episode. Also you cannot have a show like that & not include drama about their personal lives. What more do you want?
