Boxing Through Broome: A Unique Journey Through Broome’s Most Iconic Landmarks

Спорт

Showcasing incredible landmarks from Broome County Located in Upstate New York, students from Broome County Martial Arts (www.BCMA.info) lead by UFC and Bellator Veteran Tamdan McCrory and expert boxing coach Herman Tio, take you on an incredible journey, “Boxing Through Broome”.
The tour is produced by expert boxing coach and school psychologist Herman Tio, who has had well over two decades of experience (at boxing gyms in Long Island, Las Vegas, and Greater Binghamton Area) training, coaching, and providing private training and filmed by Bassem Eldakar, a local teacher and filmmaker.
The camera pans to local icon Dan Kosick, a cancer survivor, amputee, Paralympian (1998 Nagano and 2020 Salt Lake City), World’s Tough Mudder Competitor, Merrel Outdoor Brand Ambassador and social worker for Susquehanna Valley School District at the Broome County CourtHouse. Marked by its ionic columns, this is the fifth rebuild of the building created in the 19th century.
Next it turns to Erick Ballard, Licensed Master Barber owner of E-Class Barbering Experience Inc out of Binghamton, New York, at the Washington Street Pedestrian Bridge (Confluence Bridge). The Washington Street Bridge was constructed in 1886 by the Berlin Iron Bridge Company, and is the longest lenticular bridge constructed in New York.
The footage goes on to showcase Binghamton University featuring 3rd year pre med student Kaiyu Tio’s (son of Coach Tio) quick and powerful movements. Binghamton University, known as Triple Cities College, was born in 1946 in Endicott, New York, originally to serve the needs of local veterans returning from World War II. Eventually these students would go to finish their bachelor’s at Syracuse University. Through a series of splits and developments, Robert Harpur renamed what became Harpur College the State University of New York and in 1961 the campus moved to Vestal. In 1965, the University was formerly dubbed the State University of New York at Binghamton now boasting national recognition for academic quality, innovative research and scholarship, and educational value.
The tour then travels to Recreation Park featuring Jacque Kane, the picture image of strong and smart, a computer software engineer at Dick’s Sporting Goods. Kane is pictured boxing above a bronze plaque in honor of Rod Serling (who grew up in Binghamton) and the Twilight Zone episode “Walking Distance” which was filmed in the park. The park features one of many carousels found in Broome County, as Greater Binghamton is the Carousel Capital of the World. Additionally, Recreation Park is a special place in Broome County where all can enjoy. OurSpace at Recreation Park was built to be a play space accessible to children and adults of all abilities from those in wheelchairs to other mobility impairments.
Part one finishes with UFC and Bellator Veteran as well as owner of BCMA Tamdan McCrory at Morabito Stadium. McCrory’s MMA career started in 2006 and became one of the youngest NABC Champions by age 19. By 2007, he signed with the UFC and had subsequently had an impressive career with both the UFC and Bellator. McCrory’s impressive skills are showcased at the stadium which opened in 1992, as Binghamton Municipal Stadium renamed NYSEG Stadium when New York State Electric and Gas bought the rights in 2001. In 2021, Mirabito Energy Products took over the home of the Binghamton Rumble Ponies, the New York Mets' Double-A Northeast farm team.
