Today, I want to dive into why I'm so passionate about boxing. It's a question I've been asked before, like that time at the dinner table when my mom wondered why I love the sport so much. Let me take you back to 1988 when I was just an eight-year-old kid. My dad told me we were going for a ride to Uncle William's house in Lincoln Heights.
Now, at that time, Mike Tyson was the undisputed king of boxing. And let me tell you, Tyson had a grip on me like no other. Sure, he had his losses, but to me, he was and always will be a legend. I vividly remember watching Tyson face off against Michael Spinks. The tension was palpable, and when Tyson stepped into the ring, you could feel the fear emanating from his opponents. And man, did he deliver. Tyson's dominance in that match, and many others, left an everlasting impression on me.
So, yeah, there have been other great boxers who came after Tyson, but none quite captured my imagination like Iron Mike did. He'll always hold a special place in my heart because he was the one who ignited my passion for the sport. So, join me as we reminisce about the glory days of boxing and share our own favorite memories of the sport.
